DONALD DOWLESSDr.DonaldV.DowlessbecameShorterUniversity’s19thpresidenteffectiveJune1,2011. “Dr.DonaldDowlesshasstrongcredentialsintheareasofChristiancommitment,highereducationadministration,fundraising,andministry,”saidShorterUniversityTrusteeChairmanDr.NelsonPriceinannouncinghisappointment. “Theintegrationoffaithandlearningisthefoundationofhisaccomplishmentsashehasrisenthroughtheacademicranks,”Dr.Priceadded.“Heknowsacademiainsideandout,andwhatismostimpressiveaboutDr.DowlessishislovefortheLordandhisdesiretohonorHimwithallhisheart,soul,andmind.HispassionforseeingstudentsgrowstrongintheChristianfaithandforknowingtheiracademicdisciplinesisevident. “WearegratefulfortheprogressShorterUniversitymadeunderDr.Newman’sleadership,andwearesuretokeepthemomentumofsuccessunderournewleader,Dr.DonaldDowless.” Dr.DowlesscametoShorterfromNorthGreenvilleUniversity,whereheservedforfiveyearsasvicepresidentforacademics. HavingearnedtheDoctorofPhilosophydegreefromBaylorUniversityin1989,Dr.DowlessbeganhisacademiccareerasanassistantprofessorofreligionatCharlestonSouthernUniversity. HerosethroughtheranksbybecomingchairoftheDepartmentofReligion,thendeanoftheCollegeofHumanitiesandSocialSciences,andthenassociateprovost.InJune2006,hewasnamedvicepresidentforacademicaffairsatNorthGreenvilleUniversity. AtbothNorthGreenvilleandCharlestonSouthern,Dr.DowlessservedonSACSReaffirmationofAccreditationleadershipteamsandhelpedleadthetwoinstitutionsthroughsuccessful10-yearreaffirmationprocesses. HealsohelpedacquirethelargestsinglescholarshipendowmentatCharlestonSouthern,approximately$500,000fromCharlestonHeightsBaptistChurch.Throughouthiscareer,Dr.Dowlesshassupportedathleticprogramsasavenuesforeducationandministry. Dr.DowlessholdstheMasterofDivinitydegreefromSoutheasternBaptistTheologicalSeminaryandtheBachelorofArtsdegreefromtheUniversityofNorthCarolinaatChapelHill. InDecember2009,heearnedtheCertificateinNon-ProfitManagementfromDukeUniversitywithanemphasisinfundraisingandmarketing. InSpring2011,hereceivedanhonoraryDoctorofChristianLeadershipfromNorthGreenvilleUniversity.Anordainedminister,Dr.Dowlesshasservedasasupplypastor,asapastor,andasaguestspeakeratBaptistPastor’sConferencesandatBaptistAssociations. Heandhiswife,Teresa(picturedwithDr.Dowlessonleft),arededicatedtoglobalmissionsandhaveledmissiontrips. Hehastakenpartinmissiontrips,studytoursandtravelexperiencesinMexico,Romania,Hungary,England,Scotland,Canada,Germany,theCaribbean,Guatemala,CostaRica,France,andtheCzechRepublic.

DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS, BILL PETERSONBillPetersonentershisfifthyearasShorterUniversity’sDirectorofAthletics.SincebeingnamedDirectorofAthleticsin2007,PetersonhasguidedShorter’sathleticdepartmentintounprecedentedlevelsofsuccess.Hisdecision-makingandexpertisehavepropelledShortertorecordfinishesintheNACDA-LearfieldDirector’sCupineachofthelastfouryears,includingaprogram-bestthirdplacefinishfollowingthe2010-2011academicyear. PetersonwasnamedtheSouthernStatesAthleticConferenceAthleticDirectoroftheYearin2010andiscurrentlyspearheadingShorter’sexcitingtransitiontoNCAADivisionII. Since2007-2008,Shorterhaswonfivenationalchampionshipsand19conferencechampionships. Lastyear,ShorterwontheNAIAMen’sIndoorandOutdoorTrackandFieldnationalchampionships--thefirsttwoNAIAnationalchampionshipsinschoolhistory--whilethecompetitivecheerleadingprogramcompletedathree-peatattheNCACheerleadingNationalChampionshipsinApril. InPeterson’stenure,Shorterhashad263All-Conferencehonoreesand128student-athleteshonoredasAll-Americans.Whiletheathleticachievementsarenumerous,theacademicaccomplishmentsandtrackrecordofcommunityinvolvementofShorter’sstudent-athletesclearlyembodieshisvisionofexcellence. Shorter’snumberofNAIAScholar-Athleteshasgrownfromfivein2007-2008toarecord28in2010-2011.Overall,71Shorterstudent-athleteshaveearnedthetitleofNAIAScholar-Athleteoverthepastfouryearswhileatotalof345havebeennamedtotheirrespectiveConferenceAll-Academicteams. ShorterhasboastedtheSouthernStatesAthleticConference’sFemaleHonorStudent-Athleteineachofthepastthreeyears--BeccaThomas(2009),WhitniTucker(2010)andKellyEllison(2011)--andhaveseenTuckerandEllisonnamedtheNAIA’sNationalEmilS.ListonAwardwinnersasthenation’stopfemalebasketballplayersonaccountofplayingability,scholarshipandcharacter. TheShorterathleticdepartmenthasbecomeincreasinglyinvolvedintheGreaterRomeandsurroundingcommunities,helpingtoraisetensofthousandsofdollarsforavarietyofcharitableorganizationsandcausesincludingbreastcancerresearch,childhoodcancerawareness,financialsupportofMal’sPals,Inc.,andthesupportofmilitaryservicemenandwomen. ShorterhasbeenrecognizednationallyforitscommunityserviceeffortsasaShorterteamhasbeenhonoredbytheNAIAasaNationalChampionsofCharacterTeamAwardwinnerinthreeofthelastfouryears--Softball(2008),Baseball(2010)andWomen’sBasketball(2011). InJanuary2008,theNAIAannouncedthatPeterson,ShorterUniversityandRome-FloydCountyhadbeenawardedthebidforthe2008and2009NAIAFootballNationalChampionshiptobeheldattheHawks’homefootballfacility,BarronStadium.Becauseoftherampantsuccessofthe2008and2009championshipgames,PetersonandtheRomeHostCommitteenotonlyhostedthe2010championshpcontest,butalsoinkedalong-termdealwiththeNAIAtohosttheFootballNationalChampionshipthrough2015.

PriortotakingthehelmoftheHawks’athleticprogram,PetersonservedthreeyearsinthepositionofrecruitingcoordinatorfortheShorterUniversityfootballteam.HecametoShorterfromMountParanChristianSchoolinKennesaw,Ga.,whereheservedasheadbaseballcoach.In2005,PetersonledMountParantoaschoolrecord24winsandaberthinthestatefinalswhilebeingnamedtheAtlanta-Journal ConstitutionCoachoftheYear. Priortocoaching,PetersonwasPresidentandCo-FounderofHorizonMedicalProducts(HMP),apubliclytradedcorporationheadquarteredinAtlanta. PetersonplayedcollegiatefootballatTexasLutheranCollegewherehewasamemberofthe1974NAIAnationalchampionshipteamcoachedbythelegendaryJimWacker.HefinishedhiscollegecareeratFloridaStateUniversitywherehegraduatedin1978withadegreeinAccounting. Peterson’sfather,BillSr.,iscreditedwithbringingtheprofessionalpassinggametocollegefootball.BillSr.,coachedatFloridaStatefrom1960-70,atRiceUniversityin1971andfortheHoustonOilersoftheNationalFootballLeague(NFL)from1972-73. Petersonandhiswife,Joanna,havefourchildren:Will,Molly,BenandSam.Willwasaseniortightendforthe2008Mid-SouthConferenceWesternDivisionchampionShorterfootballteamandBenisasophomoreoffensivelinemanforthe2011FootballHawks.

SHORTER’S RUN TO NAIA INDOOR NATIONAL TITLE WAS TRULY MAGICAL(March 7, 2011)

GENEVA, Ohio–Twodayslaterandthewordsstillhaven’tquitesunkin:ShorterUniversityisthe2011NAIAMen’sIndoorTrackandFieldnationalchampion. TheHawkssecuredtheschool’sfirst-everNAIAteamnationalchampionshipin50yearsofNAIAmembershipwithamultitudeofclutchperformancesonSaturday’sfinaldayofcompetitionatthe2011NAIAIndoorTrackandFieldNationalChampionshipattheGaREATSportsComplexinGeneva,Ohio. Totopitalloff,ShorterheadcoachScottByrdwasnamedtheNAIAMen’sCoachoftheYearforthefirsttimeinhiscareerafterguidingtheUniversitytoitsthirdoverallteamnationalchampionship. “It’satributetoourathletesandthecoachingstaff,”saidByrd,thetwo-timereigningMid-SouthConferenceMen’sandWomen’sOutdoorTrackCoachoftheYear.“Everyoneworkedaroundtheclockwithagoaltoputyourselfincontentiontowinitall.Thereare

somanygoodteamsinthefield.WelookedattheperennialpowerslikeAzusaPacific,WaylandBaptistandOklahomaBaptist,justtonameafew,andlookedtoemulatewhattheydo.” Shorter’sfirstnationaltitledidn’tcomeeasy–theHawksscored14bigpointsoverthefinalthreeeventsofthecompetitiontofinishwith44points,threeaheadofrunner-upWaylandBaptist–astheteamleanedonthreeeventchampionshipsandadramaticfinishinthe21standfinaleventtobringhomethetrophy. FreshmanPaulChelimo,theSouthernStatesAthleticConferenceMen’sCrossCountryRunneroftheYearwhofinishedthirdattheNAIACrossCountryNationalChampionshipinthefall,wonthe3,000-meterrunnationaltitle–hisfirstindividualnationalchampionship–bybestingEdwardTaragonofWaylandBaptistwithatimeof8:28.31. SophomoreOscarOgwarotookhomethe5,000-meterruntitlewithatimeof14:23.98,becomingtheschool’sfourthindividualnationalchampion.HeedgedEvansKirwaofEmbry-Riddleby.01seconds. Inastorylineonlyseenscriptedinthemovies,theHawkssealedthechampionshipinthemostdramaticoffashions. Headingintothecompetition’sfinalevent–the4x400relay,Shorterhad40pointsandclungtoatwo-pointadvantageoverHastings.WaylandBaptistlurkedfivepointsbackandwasafavoritetochallengeforatitleinthe4x400. TheHawks4x400team,whichhadnotqualifiedforthenationalmeetuntilShorter’slastregularseasoncompetition–Shorterqualifiedforthe4x400attheTigerTune-UpheldtwoweekspriortotheNAIAChampionship–enteredthe4x400finalnotknowingwhattoexpect. Theydelivered. WhileWaylandBaptistcrossedthelineinthirdtopocketsixpointsthatwouldhavegiventhemtheoutrightleadoverShorter,theHawks’4x400squadofRandallDameron,NickDodson,TerenceScruggsandNigelTaltonfinisheddirectlybehindinfourthplaceinatimeof3:15.76–thattimewasjustshyofaschoolrecord–toscorefourpointsandclinchthechampionshipfortheHawks. WhilethosefourperformanceshighlightedShorter’srallytothetitle,severalotherHawkswereinstrumentalinthefinalresult. 2008NAIAIndoorHighJumpnationalchampionandseniorMontagiousBrownbattledillnesstostillplacesixthinthehighjump.Hecleared6-8.75toearnyetanotherindoorAll-Americaaward. AlbertHuntleyscoredfourpointsfortheHawksandearnedAll-Americahonorswithafourthplacefinishinthemen’s60-meterfinal,completingtheeventinatimeof6.81.TravisBentonalsomadethefinal,butjustmissedoutonpointsbyplacingseventh(6.89)–itwasthefirsttimeinprogramhistorythattheHawkshadtwoathletesqualifyforthesemifinalsandfinalsinthe60. DodsonscoredandwasanAll-Americaninthe200byfinishingfourthinthefinalinaschoolrecordtimeof21.65andDameronearnedAll-Americastatusbyplacingsixthinthe400-meterdashin48.23. Whilehedidnotscorepoints,Shorter’sTreborHolmesmadeasplashinhisNAIANationalChampionshipdebut,placing12thinthelongjumpwithaleapof22-4.50. Overall,theHawksboasted11All-Americans:Brown,Chelimo,Dameron,Dodson,AlbertandAllenHuntley,Limo,Ng’etich,Ogwaro,ScruggsandTalton. Hastingsplacedthirdintheteamrankingswith38pointswhileOklahomaChristian(34)andAsuzaPacific(34)roundedoutthetopfivefinishers. ShorternowstandsastheoddsonfavoritetowintheNAIAOutdoorTrackandFieldChampionshipinMay,somethingtheHawkshavebeenclosinginonduringthepastseveralseasons.TheHawksplacedseventhattheNAIAOutdoorChampionshipsin2009beforeturninginaprogram-bestfourthplacefinishinlastyear’snationalchampionshipmeet.

MARION, Ind.--Asifitschampionshipattheindoornationalmeetwasn’tenough,theShorterUniversitymen’strackandfieldteamhadanothergoldenopportunityatthe2011NAIAOutdoorTrackandFieldChampionshiptoeraseanydoubtthatitwasthecreamofthecropintheNAIA. TheHawksdidjustthat. Poweredbyfourindividualnationalchampionshipsandahostofrecord-settingperformances,ShortercapturedtheNAIAMen’sOutdoorTrackandFieldnationalchampionshipasthethree-daynationalmeetconcludedonarain-soakedSaturdayinMarion,Ind. FreshmanPaulChelimowonapairofindividualtitlesinthe5,000and10,000,sophomoreTravisBentonsnatchedhisfirstindividualnationalchampionshipbywinningthe100-meterdashandseniorNickDodsonfinallybrokehisstringofthreerunner-upfinisheswithatitleinthe400hurdlesasShortercompletedtherareindoor-outdoordoubletoconfirmitsstatusasthenation’spremiertrackandfieldprogram. “Thischampionshipmeanssomuchtoourathletes,ourcoachesandtotheShorterUniversityathleticdepartment,”saidShorterheadcoachScottByrd,whoaddedanNAIAMen’sOutdoorTrackandFieldNationalCoachoftheYearhonortotheIndoorNationalCoachoftheYearaccoladehegarneredearlierintheyear.“Fiveyearsago,Shorterdidn’thaveatrackteam,butitwas[formerPresidentDr.HaroldNewman’s]visiontostartthistrackprogram.BeingabletowinbothanindoorandoutdoortitleinDr.Newman’slastyearisexactlywhatwewantedtodoforhim. “Fromdayone,Dr.Newman,[DirectorofAthletics]BillPetersonandtheentireadministrationhasbackedus100percentandwithoutthatbacking,noneofthiswouldhaveeverhappened,”Byrdadded.“Thatsupporthasbeeninstrumentalinthegrowthofourprogram.” Shorter’smenhadwonthreestraightMid-SouthConferenceoutdoorchampionshipspriortothestartofthe2010-11academicyear. Theyaddedtheschool’sfirst-everNAIAnationalchampionshipwiththevictoryatthe2011NAIAIndoorChampionshipsinMarch,butevenaftertheHawksmadeitfour-in-a-rowattheMid-SouthChampionshipsinApril,ByrdstillfeltthatShorterneededanoutdoorchampionshiptofinallybeconsidered,onceandforall,amongtheelite. “Towinthisoutdoornationalchampionshipsolidifiestheprogram,”saidByrd,whowasnamedtheNAIAMen’sOutdoorTrackandFieldNationalCoachoftheYear.“Weknewthattheindoorchampionshipwasn’taflukeandnow,everybodyelseknows. “Ourathleteshavedemonstratedthattheyarethebestinthecountryrightnow,”Byrdadded.“Toomanytimestheheadcoachgetstoomuchcredit;alloftheseathletesworkedsohardandourcoachingstaffworkedhoursandhourstomakethishappen.”

Chelimoprovedtobetheicebreaker,settingthetoneonThursdaybywinningthe10,000-meterrunin29:44.Bentonfollowedsuitthenextday,finishingfirstinthe100-meterdashfinalby.002seconds,andtheHawkssuddenlyhadtwoathletestoboastasnationalchampions. Thistypeofoutburstwassimplyamatteroftime,especiallyforoneHawkinparticular. SeniorNickDodsonhadcomesoclosetoagoldmedalinthe400hurdlesineachofhislastthreevisitstothenationalmeet.Thefour-timeMid-SouthConferencechampionandmultipleAll-Americanhadpostedthreestraightnationalrunner-upfinishes,nonemoreheartbreakingthanlastyear’sdefeatby.19seconds. MADDOX TRACK AT HISTORIC BARRON STADIUMRome’s Historic Barron StadiumishometotheShorterUniversityfootballandtrackandfieldteams.BarronStadiumservedashostofthe2008,2009and2010NAIAFootballNationalChampionshipandiscontractedtodosothrough2015.Thefacilitywillalsohostthe2012Mid-SouthConferenceTrackandFieldChampionshipsinadditiontotheRome-ShorterRelays,whichmakeareturntoFloydCountyafteranumberofyears.

BarronStadiumunderwentamulti-milliondollarrenovationintheSummerof2010,aprojectthatincludedtheinstallationofastate-of-the-artsyntheticturfsurface,renovationstothelockerroomfacilities,adigitalvideoscoreboard,increasedseatingcapacityandtheinstallationofastate-of-the-art,BeynonSportsSurfaces,eight-lanetrackthatwillallowShortertohosttrackmeetsforthefirsttimeinthehistoryofitsprogram.

Apartfromhousingseatingformorethan5,300spectators,thestadiumalsoincludesanewly-designedpressbox,lockerroomfacilitiesfortwoteams,concessionareasonboththehomeandvisitorsides,sidecoachingboxesandtrainingrooms.

OvertheSummerof2011,PhaseTwooftherenovationprojectwascompletedasMemorialGymwastorndowntocreatespaceforaspectatorfriendly,concoursestyleentrance,completewithticketwindowsandentrygates.Astate-of-the-artconcessionstandarea,officialslockerroomsandexpandedrestroomfacilitieswerepartofthenewlydesignedentrance.

DuringByrd’stenure,Shorterhaswon14individualnationalchampionshipsandin2011,sawnineathleteswinindividualnationalchampionshipsresultinginthemen’sdoubleandthewomenpostingprogram-bestfinishesoffifthandthirdattheNAIAIndoorandOutdoornationalchampionships,respectively. Forhiseffortsduringthehistoric2011season,ByrdwasnamedboththeNAIAMen’sIndoorandOutdoorTrackandFieldNationalCoachoftheYear. In1980,ByrdwasthenationalcollegiatepowerliftingchampionandcoachedOTCfrom1994-1996.HeservedasanIDEACertifiedTrainerfrom1987-2000andisaprofessionalmemberoftheNationalStrengthandConditioningAssociation(NSCA). Byrdcoached12school-agednationalchampionathletesincludingthreegoldmedalists,foursilvermedalistsandonebronzemedalist.Heguidedathree-membercompetitionteamthatwonthirdplacenationallyandalsocoachedthreejuniornationalathletes,includingonesilvermedalist. ByrdgraduatedfromFayetteCountyHighSchoolin1979afterletteringallfouryearsinvarsityfootballandvarsitytrack.HeearnedhiscollegiatedegreefromJacksonvilleStateUniversityin1985.

Shorter’smenturnedinaprogram-besteighthplacefinishatthe2011NAIACrossCountryNationalChampionships,oneyearafterplacing10thintheannualevent.TheHawksclimbedashighasNo.2inthenationalrankingsduringthe2011season--thehighestrankingeverfortheShortercrosscountryprogram. StephensoncoachedShorter’smostdecoratedstudent-athlete,formerstandoutJustynaMudy,toapairofNAIAcrosscountrynationalchampionshipsandthreemoreindividualnational

championshipsintrackandfieldoverherthree-yearShortercareer.Afterwinningthe3,000metersteeplechaseforthefirsttimeatthe2009NAIAOutdoorTrackandFieldNationalChampionship,Mudywasnamedtheevent’sFemaleMostOutstandingPerformer. Inhisfiveyears,Stephenson’sathleteshavewon13individualnationalchampionshipsandcapturedover20NAIAAll-Americahonors.TheShortermen’scrosscountryteamhaswonfivestraightconferencechampionshipswhilethewomenqualifiedasateamfortheNAIACrossCountryChampionshipforthesecondtimein2011. In2008,StephensoncompletedhisMaster’sofScienceinExerciseSciencefromGeorgiaStateUniversity.Whilepursuinghispost-graduatestudies,hewasthegraduateassistantfortheBerryCollegecrosscountryteam.HealsoholdsaBachelor’sofScienceinSportsMarketingfromBerryCollege. Asanathlete,Stephensonwasathree-timeAll-AmericanatBerryCollege,twiceinthe3000metersteeplechaseandonceincrosscountry.Stephensonholdspersonalbestsof14:18for5k,29:43for10k,8:53forthesteeplechaseand4:12forthemile. UniversityPresidentDr.DonaldDowlessandDirectorofAthleticsBillPetersonlearnedofShorter’sapprovalinaconferencecallwiththeNCAAonJuly12,endingaprocessthatbeganinFebruary2011withafeasibilitystudyconcerningpotentialNCAADivisionIImembership. “WeareexcitedthatShorterUniversitywillbemovingalonginthemembershipprocessattheNCAADivisionIIlevel,”saidDr.Dowless.“Theeffortsofourathleticstaffandthesupportofourfaculty,staffandstudentshasbeeninstrumentalintheprocessandwelookforwardtocompetingintheGulfSouthConference. “Also,ourfansupporthasbeenphenomenal,”Dr.Dowlessadded.“Wehaveastrongcommitmenttospiritual,academicandathleticsuccess,andwemoveforwardwithgreatanticipationofgooddaysahead.” “ThisisawonderfuldayforShorterUniversityandforourathleticprogram,”saidPeterson.“WearetrulyblessedandsoappreciativeofthesupportwehavereceivedfrombothouradministrationandourBoardofTrustees.Inparticular,Iwouldliketothankourcoachesandourstudent-athletes.Theireffortsmadethistremendouspossibilityareality.Theyarejustagreatgroup.” Shorterimmediatelybeginsthethree-yeartransitionprocessasacandidatememberfortheNCAAduringthe2011-2012season,duringwhichitwillremainanactiveaffiliateoftheNationalAssociationofIntercollegiateAthletics(NAIA). Shorterremainseligibleforregularseasonandpost-seasontournamentchampionshipsinboththeSouthernStatesAthleticConference(SSAC)andMid-SouthConference(MSC)duringthe2011-2012athleticcampaigns,andalsoremainseligibletocompeteinNAIAnationaltournaments. “Weareveryproudofourlong-termrelationshipwiththeNAIA,theSSACandtheMid-South,andwelookforwardtoanothergreatyearin2011-2012,”Petersonsaid.“Wehavebeenblessedwithmanywonderfulfriendships,inparticularNAIACEOJimCarrandchampionshipdirectorDennisGreenalongwithourtwocommissioners,Dr.KurtPatbergandSteveBaker.” Theuniversitywillenterthe2012-2013and2013-2014academicyearsasanNCAA“provisionalstatus”memberwhilemovingtowardsmembershipintheGulfSouthConference. Duringthistwo-yearprovisionalperiod,ShorterwillcompeteagainstfullGulfSouthConferenceandNCAADivisionIIschedulesandberequiredtooperateunderNCAADivisionIIregulations,butwillbeineligibletocompeteinpost-seasonplay.Shorter’sathleticscheduleswillincludeGulfSouthConferencememberssuchasAlabama-Huntsville,NorthAlabama,WestAlabama,ValdostaState,WestGeorgiaandWestFlorida,amongothers. TheGulfSouthConferenceunanimouslyendorsedShorter’sapplicationforNCAADivisionIImembership.

“TheGulfSouthConferenceisoneofthepremierconferencesinNCAADivisionIIandweareveryproudthattheyendorsedusforNCAADivisionIImembership,”saidPeterson.“WelookforwardtobeginningcompetitionwithintheGSCin2012-2013andbeginningcompetitiverivalrieswithfolkssuchasValdostaState,WestGeorgia,NorthAlabama,Alabama-Huntsvilleandalloftheothergreatschoolsinthatconference.” ShorterfirstexploredtheprospectofapplyingforNCAADivisionIImembershipafterbeingapproachedbyrepresentativesoftheGulfSouthConferencelastyear.TheuniversitycontractedwithCollegiateConsultingofAtlantatoconductastudyanalyzingthepotentialimpactofsuchamoveontheinstitution.OncethefeasibilitystudywascompleteandafullendorsementfromtheGulfSouthConferencesecured,ShorterannouncedinMay2011itsplanstoapplyforNCAADivisionIImembership. ShorterannouncedarestructuringofitsathleticdepartmentinordertocomplywithNCAAregulations,namingDr.RichardCowanasitsDirectorofCompliance,CristyPakasComplianceCoordinatorandRachelRogersasSeniorWomanAdministrator.CowanmovesintoNCAAcomplianceafterservingforover30yearsasShorter’sFacultyAthleticsRepresentative.PakassumestheroleofComplianceCoordinatorafterworkingthepastthreeyearsasagraduateassistantwithintheathleticdepartmentwhileRogers,inadditiontoherdutiesasSeniorWomanAdministrator,willcontinueonasShorter’sDirectorofAthleticDevelopment. ShorterhasservedashostoftheNAIAFootballNationalChampionshipsince2008andPetersonsaysthattheuniversityiscommittedtocontinuingthatrelationshipregardlessoftheaffiliationofitsathleticprograms. “TheNAIAhasgivenRomeacontracttohosttheFootballNationalChampionshipthrough2015andwelookforwardtothecontinuationofthatagreement,”Petersonsaid.
