From the Driver’s Seat Sadie Kilcrease, President

As we remain involved in unprecedented circumstances caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, I hope that all of you and your families are healthy and safe. As previously stated, the health and safety of all our members remains the top priority and guides all decisions and plans. It is extremely important that the Region follows Federal, State and Local guidance and regu-lation. These regulations may vary within our Region, and are constantly changing. Please contact your Area Director or me with any questions regarding PCA meetings and/or activities.

PCA National has cancelled several National events including the PCA Spring Treffen in Colorado and Porsche Parade in Palm Springs, California. However the PCA Spring 2020 Member Only Raffle is now open. The grand prize is a Porsche Taycan 4S plus $25,000. The raffle closes June 5, 2020. For detail go to www.pca.org

Our 60th Anniversary Celebration scheduled for September 26 remains on the schedule and registration is open on Club Regis-tration. Check back cover of this edition for complete detail.

Recently there have been some questions from our member-ship regarding PCA information on Membership Anniversary Recognition. Some anniversaries were either not listed or incor-rect information was posted on the anniversary date. If your information is not posted in TR or the information is incorrect, please contact PCA via email: [email protected] or phone: 410-381-0911 for corrections and contact me so that we can get the correct information posted in TR. During my time serving as President, I have realized how important membership an-niversaries are to members. I am proud that members are so passionate about their anniversary dates with PCA. Maybe you already know how PCA recognizes membership anniversaries but for those that may not know, the following is the procedure:

PCA recognizes membership anniversaries in five-year incre-ments. Five- to 20-year anniversary materials are available upon request. Members can request anniversary materials by clicking www.pca.org/anniversary (must be logged on PCA website to use link). Members will receive a letter, certificate and decal commemorating their anniversary. Materials for 25- to 60-year anniversaries are mailed quarterly depending on the anniversary date. Forty- to 60 year anniversaries receive a name badge in addition to the above with 50+ years also re-ceiving a Pin. Twenty-five year anniversary also receives a pin.Carolinas Region recognizes anniversaries in five-year incre-ments and the name and dates are posted in Tobacco Roads. Effective this month, in addition to being recognized in the “an-niversary section” of TR, I am recognizing those members that have recently celebrated 40 and 45 year anniversaries.

December, 2019 – 40 Years : William (Bill) Swart, Mooresville, NC – Lake Norman Area

Terrance O’Toole, Greenville, SC – Upstate;

January, 2020 – 45 Years: Richard and Jill Norman, Linville, NC – Hickory Area

I hope the information on PCA Membership Anniversary Recog-nition is helpful. If you have any questions, just let me know. While we remain apart, we must remain connected. The PORSCHE brand that we all love may have brought us together, but the friendships and our extended families that have devel-oped due to the brand will keep us together. Until we can travel around the Region and visit with all of you, I wish you safety and good health. Please contact me with any questions or concerns. Kindest personal regards,

Sadie Kilcrease, President, Carolinas Region

I took this photo at the Porsche mu-seum in Stuttgart last fall. It reminds me of a 911 with a Covid-19 mask so I thought it was appropriate as a Tobacco Roads cover page right now!

Area Updates:May, 2020 (check website for event updates) Triad Area By Jerry Kilcrease

Meeting: Third Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PMLocation To Be Determined. See Web and TRContact Jerry Kilcrease, Area [email protected] (336) 476-3120

Hi Folks: I hope everyone is doing okay as we all wait patiently to welcome the opportunity to get back to some form of normal including enjoying the opportunities to participate in PCA club activities. We are all watching the news on a daily basis wait-ing for the “all clear” or some other form of positive encourage-ment. Hopefully we will be able to start “getting out and about” very soon. In the meantime it is imperative that we use common sense and follow the health and safety guidelines that have been implemented by our local, state and federal governments. And please do not forget that PCA National as well as at the Regional PCA levels place the health and wellbeing of its members above everything else.

Looking ahead at the Triad Area’s 2020 agenda planned for the months of May and June, below is the update on the current sta-tus of our planned events:

1. May 19th, 2020 – Triad Area PCA monthly meeting – Cancelled

2. June 6th, 2020 – Drive to VIR – GT World Challenge Races – This event is still scheduled as information from VIR indi-cates they currently plan to host this event and worse case would be delayed for a week. Updates and details will be sent out as they become available. In the meantime, Dixon Johnston, Triad Area event chairperson, is in contact with VIR officials so please contact him if you have any specific questions.

3. June 16th, 2020 – Triad Area PCA monthly meeting – pending

4. June 19th – 21st, 2020, Roads & Rails Charity Drive – Final decision with be made NLT May 1st....recent conversations with Robert Van Camp, Event Chair, confirmed that booking ar-rangements with host hotel are in place but wants to wait for pos-sible lifting of State & local “group gathering” restrictions before making decision...

Status of future Triad Area PCA events and activities beyond June will be evaluated as we move forward. Members can keep informed by checking the Carolinas Region PCA website (www.carolinas-pca.com) and look for updates in upcoming issues of Tobacco Roads. Also please feel free to contact me anytime at [email protected] or 336-847-9292.

TRIVIA CONTEST – NAME THE EVENT & DATE –WIN A PRIZE

Since we have no activities nor events to discuss in this report, I thought I would try something new by offering a Trivia Contest that should test your memory...and if you choose to compete, the first person that emails me the correct answer to the following question will receive a prize (item will be similar to a monthly meeting door prize). Email the name and the date of the Triad Area event that was held when the “group photograph” shown ad-jacent to this article was taken. Email your answer to [email protected]. Contest ends May 31 - Good Luck!

TRIAD AREA MEMBERS CELEBRATING MEMBERSHIP ANNIVER-SARIES

Each month the Carolinas Region Membership Chair sends Area Directors a listing of members in their area that celebrated an anniversary during last month. Celebrations are announced in 5 years increments, i.e. 5yrs, 10yrs, 15yrs., etc.....so I am happy to announce that Robert Barraclough celebrates 20 years and Howard Stanton celebrates 10 years during the month of March, 2020..... Congratulations to both.

REMAINING SCHEDULED TRIAD AREA EVENTS FOR 2020:

1. Drive to VIR – June 6 -GT World Challenge Race –Flyer in TR

2. Roads & Rails – June 19-21 – Status pending

3. Porsche Corral – July 18, 2020 – Details later

Hickory Area By Michael VittorriaMeeting: Second Tuesday each month at 6:30 PMRefer to Monthly Area Report for Location/DetailContact Michael Vittorrio, Area [email protected]

We sincerely hope you and yours are safe and healthy.

Wow! What a strange time. For Jane and I this past month or more has been a bit surreal. We consider ourselves very fortunate in that no one in our family has suffered any health problems re-lated to Covid-19 nor have they experienced any severe financial setbacks. Nor, interestingly, do we know anyone who has tested positive for the virus. Yet, there are thousands of people through-out our country and the world who have been tragically impacted by this pandemic.

It is true, we are a little tired of having to stay at home. It is also true that we miss spending time with our family and friends. As Porsche enthusiasts, we miss the opportunity to drive our cars and hang out with other like-minded folks. But these are minor inconveniences when compared to what many of our fellow Amer-icans are experiencing.

Jane and I have been PCA Members for about 10 years. Though we were initially attracted to the Club as a way to celebrate our enthusiasm for the marque, we have been gratified to discover a community of folks who, though they like their cars, are extremely friendly and truly care about one another.

We will get through this. And, yes, we will have more dinner meet-ings, track activities, drive and dine events and the like – and hopefully soon. But for now, I encourage those of us who have the means to weather the storm to do what we can to help reduce the economic impact on the hundreds of thousands who do not. Some of the ways we can help include:

• Make donations to your local food bank or to Feeding America (www.feedingamerica.org)

• Shop online, especially at local businesses

• Order Takeout or delivery at local restaurants

• Buy gifts cards and subscriptions for local businesses

• Donate items instead of throwing them out

• Check on your neighbor – are they struggling in silence?

• Make a donation to your Area’s selected charity. For the Hickory Area, Crossnore School

The PCA membership in general and the Carolinas Region in par-ticular has consistently demonstrated that they care and are gen-erous with their resources. Now, perhaps more so than at any time in our life, that generosity is needed.

It’s not just the cars, it’s the people … all the people.

Hopefully everybody in our LKN community is doing well. The up-dates for this month are basically that there are no updates…

As a reminder, we have decided to move our monthly meetings from the Fourth Thursday to the Second Thursday of the month. Of course, with the last order by Gov. Cooper on April 23rd, all ac-tivities are still on hold in May. Therefore, we plan to have our next PCA meeting on June 11th, as usual at the Peninsula Yacht Club. David van Epps is our next scheduled speaker, so hopefully he will have a chance to address the LKN PCA community in June. We are not sure in what format we will be able to have our meeting at PYC, stay tuned for updates.

Below are a few additional photos from Werks Reunion and the concourse at the Ritz Carlton Amelia Island in Amelia Island on March 6th. So recent and it seems so far away now…

And a photo from one of last year’s PYC meeting with refresh-ments!! Something to look forward to! And of course a photo of our last PCA drive in 2019.

Please stay safe and healthy! See you all soon again.

Event Reminders (please check online, as most of them are sus-pended at this time):

Every second Saturday from 8:00 am to 10:00 am is Cars and Cof-fee at Waterbean Coffee in Cornelius (at the corner of Catawba Av. and Jeton Dr.). Great local event.

Also every second Saturday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am is Stutt-gart Saturday at Hendrick Porsche, free coffee and donuts/crepes are provided.

GREETINGS FELLOW SHUTINS!!

I hope you are all staying healthy and safe. What a game changer the Covid-19 virus has been for the world. Things will never be the same. However, as we work thru this pandemic, we have found new ways to communicate, thru things like Zoom video conferenc-ing, Microsoft Teams and a few others, in addition, it has been a great time to catch up on many “Honey Do” projects around the house and get the cars cleaned up and ready to drive.

Personally, I have been enjoying some short drives just to get out of the house and find food. It’s amazing what things you can come up with to do when you have to. With many restaurants still offering take outs, we have been doing a few picnic lunches from Fire Birds on Rae Road and sitting by the fountains to eat, as there is nobody there, “Surrealistic”

Anyway, Stay safe, stay healthy and keep taking lots of your favor-ite “Virus Repellant”!! I am….

PENDING UPCOMING SCHEDULE: If things get back to some sort of normality, we will resume our monthly meetings, and events. Stay tuned as I will be sending out an e-mail to notify every one of our upcoming schedules, as some things have been canceled and must be rescheduled. I’m looking forward to seeing you all soon, and getting back on the road.

Wednesday MAY 20, Monthly Metrolina PCA meeting will be held in a private room at Café Monte located in Phillips Place, 6700 Fairview Rd #108, Charlotte, NC 28210. Check out their web site

for menu and location: https://cafemonte.net/.. As always, meet & greet at 6:30 in the bar, dinner and meeting starts at 7PM. Our May guest speaker will discuss performance upgrades for our cars, what really adds performance and worth the investment. So, if you have any topics or questions you would like to have ad-dressed, send me a note.

Sincerely,

Doug Strait-Metrolina Area Director

First, I hope all of our PCA Members are well and have not been physically impacted by the COVID-19 virus. We have all been af-fected by this pandemic due to the government’s attempt to slow the spread, some of us more than others. Yet any temporary financial impact should be viewed as just that… temporary. And the real threat is being physically impaired by the virus.

As our Upstate Area has been under a “Stay at Home” Executive Order for all non-essential activities, we did not hold a club meet-ing in April. We hope that this pandemic will ease in the coming month and we will be able to resume some PCA activities in May.

Our next scheduled meeting is for Tuesday evening, May 12th at Quaker Steak & Lube, yet this is all contingent on how much the pandemic slows and the risk is reduced. I will send out a meet-ing notice in May, to advise what will occur. In any event, if you are in the “High Risk” group or have any concerns, please stay safe at home. I know that we all miss the social aspect of our club, and would like to get out and see one another, yet let’s not take any unneeded risks with our health.

Please stay tuned for future updates on PCA events as we work through this COVID-19 pandemic.

Take care & stay safe,

Jeff Price

14 TOBACCO ROADS / MAY, 2020

Hope all our PCA friends and families are safe and healthy in these uncharted times. Good news is that I know of no Sandhills Area members, or family members, who have contracted this un-seen enemy originating in China....according to my sources! We do have one Pinehurst neighbor who was diagnosed with C-19 virus a month ago. He went through a tough time, spent a few days in local hospital ICU, and is now home recovering well!

Like all other Carolinas Region Areas, we suspended all Spring meetings, dinners, and planned events/trips...very disappointing, but complying with federal, state and local guidelines. How-ever, while respecting Social Distancing and “gatherings’ of ten or less, a few of us have been out on the wonderful backroads surrounding Pinehurst enjoying driving our Porsches. And, fortunately, our many terrific golf courses are open, and most restaurants are doing a great job with takeout food!

Pete Keegan and I are putting together a virtual tech session for Sandhills members on Saturday, April 25 using the Zoom app. One of our local detail shops will demo a “depollenization” of my 991 Turbo. Never attempted this virtual venue before, but maybe it’s part of the New Normal. If this one works, we will set up another program from Porsche Greensboro...Steve Sudler has volunteered to host using Zoom.

Be Safe and Stay Healthy! No excuses for a dirty car or delayed DIY maintenance!

One new ray of hope....just heard that VIR plans to host track events starting May 12!

Marty

Just like other car clubs and social organizations, March-April was devoid of Triangle Area gatherings. In some ways, the inability to spend time with our wonderful PCA members as I normally would has been a big disappointment. But, it has been a necessary step for all of us and I’m glad to say that everyone in our area of the Carolinas Region has been terrific about the indefinite change in our plans.

On May 16 or June 20 (or whenever we can safely emerge from this situation), I hope to celebrate our return to semi-normalcy with a drive from our Cars & Coffee in Durham to VIR in Alton, VA. The scenic journey will take about 90 minutes, and we plan to have lunch at the Tavern at VIR. Once I have confirmed details, I will be sure to send an email to everyone in the Triangle Area. There is a Triad Area drive to VIR on June 6th that you might want to consider if you’re unable to attend the event we hope to have on June 20.

One other important reminder: If you haven’t already, please be sure to sign up for our Carolinas Region 60th anniversary cel-ebration on September 26th at the Grandover Resort in Greens-boro. Many of us from the Triangle Area will be there and the giveaways, food, dancing and celebration will be outstanding! You can find all of the details at www.motorsportreg.com or look for the advertisement in this issue of Tobacco Roads.

Please remember to look for my email updates. Or you can find updates on Meetup.com. I have also re-vamped our Triangle Area PCA Facebook page. If you’re not connected with our Facebook page yet, let me know and I’ll send you an invitation. You can also send a friend request to Triangle Area PCA to join.

Thanks everyone! l can’t wait to see you again soon. In the mean-time, don’t forget to take your Porsche out to charge your battery and your soul!

Bob
