Turkey’s global vision in the energy sectorTPIC(Turkish Petroleum International Company), founded as a 100% state owned subsidiary energy company of Turkish Petroleum Corporation in 1988 with the objective of operating in all value chains of the oil industry, carries out activities in the basic fields of oil industry such as exploration & production, drilling & workover services, petroleum & petroleum products trade and oil distribution.

TPIC influences the sector with major projects of the oil industry in an expansive territory going beyond Turkey and stretching to Iraq, Libya, Colombia, Northern Cyprus and Kazakhstan.

The primary objective is carrying out systematic and major projects by considering environmental values for TPIC which is dedicated to becoming a competitive player in the global market by realizing sustainable development.

TPIC was transferred to the management of Petroleum Pipeline Corporation/BOTAŞ by the Decree of the Council of Ministers dated 22.01.2013 and numbered 4152, together with an increase in its capital from 150 Million USD to 500 Million USD.

TPIC, currently continues its activities in the areas of oilfield services, petroleum and petroleum products trade and exploration& production at home and abroad. Within the context of oilfield services; between 1996-2013, TPIC realized Tepco, KTM, KazakoilAktöbe, Caspineft Projects in Kazakhistan; Salyan Oil and Karasu Operating Co. Projects in Azerbaijan; Frontera Eastern Georgia Project in Georgia; Dove Energy and IPR Projects in Syria and Khurmala Field -20 Wells Drilling Project in Iraq. In addition to these projects, in 2010, an IPM contract regarding the drilling of 45 wells in Iraq’s South Rumalia Field was signed with South Oil Company (SOC) of Iraq.

An integrated energy company in the areas of exploration&production, oilfield services and petroleum trade

By 2014, TPIC holds 32 exploration licenses in various exploration regions of Turkey. TPAO operates as the Contractor Company for TPIC Licenses in providing exploration, production, field development and drilling services.

As being the 4th largest oil producer of Turkey according to 2012 data, TPIC produces around 800 bopd from Şambayat-1,15; Doğu Şambayat 1,3,6; Altıntop 2,3; and Bozhüyük 1,5 wells on AR/TPI/4468 license; from Sislice-1 well on AR/TPI/5031 license and Caliskan-1 well on AR/TPI/4906 license.

Considering offshore activities, on its AR/TPI/4582 license, TPIC has launched the drilling of its first offshore well, namely “Gülcihan 2 Well”, on 17.01.2014 which is located in the Iskenderun Gulf.

An active and global player in the overseas exploration&production

Having realized its first exploration projects in Australia, Pakistan, Indonesia and Egypt (West Qarun, West Gebel El Zeit, West Bahariye) between 1988-1995, TPIC also started to perform exploration activities in Gonzalez and Maria Conchita Blocks of Colombia in 2008.

Gonzalez Block

Since 15 July 2008, serving as the operator, TPIC has been conducting joint exploration activities with National Oil Company of Colombia(ECOPETROL) in the Gonzalez Block in Catatumbo. By 2014, Ecopetrol transferred its shares to TPIC. In the project, Rio Zulia West-3 (RZW-3) exploration well was completed with oil discovery in 2010; and Rio Zulia West-4 and Rio Zulia West-4 ST-1 wells were completed with oil shows in 2011. A 3D seismic acquisition program covering an area of 232 km² was completed in November 2012. Besides a fracturing operation in RZW-3 Well, an exploration well is planned on the block by 2014.

Maria Conchita Block

Within the framework of the exploration&production contract signed in 22 January 2009 with National Hydrocarbon Agency - Agencia Nacional de Hidrocarburos (ANH) regarding the Maria Conchita Block located in the Guejira Basin in North Colombia; 120 km² 3D seismic data acquisition and processing were completed in the second half of 2010. By serving as the operator, TPIC has been carrying out the project together with MKMS (Genel Energy) and Multiservicios. After the completion of “Consulta Previa” negotiation process for the second phase, the first exploration well is planned to be drilled.

TPAO Batman-Adıyaman ve Thrace Region Activities

Since 2006, TPIC have been providing oil/natural gas drilling and workover services to TPAO in the various TPAO and TPIC licenced fields of Batman, Adıyaman and Thrace Region. Until today, TPIC has given drilling services at 300 wells and performed approximately 400.000 meters drill in total; workover services over 1600 wells and still actively continues its operations.

Iraq Rumaila Field Project

Within the scope of a tender related to the drilling of 45 wells in the Supergiant South Rumaila Field of Iraq, an IPM contract was signed with Iraq’s South Oil Company(SOC) on March 14th 2010. The first five wells were drilled and delivered successfully by August 14th 2011 and 16.891 meters were drilled in total. As BP transferred its operating rights to the “Rumaila Operating Organization (ROO)”, the consortium of BP-CNPC-SOC, the project was suspended for a little period. In the ongoing process, an amended version of the contract entered into force on November 15th 2012, where profitability and business volume of TPIC were reserved.

Within this context, until today, negotiations with SOC and BP managements have continued on technical and financial terms, and the barriers related to the activation of the project have been removed. In the forthcoming days, TPIC is expected to continue its operations on this project which has a total volume of 305 million USD. Besides SOC Drilling Project, as a company which is conscious about Iraq’s serious needs in drilling services, TPIC maintains its vision of becoming a remarkable service company both in Iraq’s Basra (Persion Gulf) Region and in all other regions.

Leading company in geothermal drilling field

Besides its remarkable success in the areas of oil and natural gas field services, TPIC has a leading position in terms of geothermal drilling field services as well.

TPIC provides well drilling services to various companies such as BM Construction, Gurmat/Guris, Zorlu Energy, Santral/Sanko Energy, Aytemiz, Mis/Soyak Energy, Akca Energy and Maspo Energy, in the geothermal energy production field with its 26 years of experience. Until 2014, TPIC drilled 198.032 meters in total with 89 geothermal drilling operations.

TPIC, which has increased its net profits 27 times in the last 4 years in parallel with its increasing activities, was honored with its ranking as 81 in the List of Top 100 Tax Payers of Ankara in 2011 for the first time in the company’s 26 years of history; and maintained this success with its ranking as 55, in the same list of 2012.

Turkey’s globally well-known brand in petroleum trade

The Diesel Trade in the Domestic Market

Between 2009-2013, TPIC supplied diesel from the international market to the distribution companies in the domestic market, on behalf of its subsidiary TPPD. Within this context, approximately 572 thousand tons of diesel was sold.

Libya NOC (National Oil Company) Petroleum Trade

Within the scope of contract on “petroleum purchase&sale” signed between TPIC and NOC in January, 2013; 10 cargos were agreed of which 4 cargos will be assured and 6 cargos will be optional depending on the export capacity. Each cargo consists of 600.000 barrels and the expected volume is 670 million USD.

Electricity Authority of Northern Cyprus (KIB-TEK) Fuel-Oil Trade

Electricity Authority of Northern Cyprus (KIB-TEK) producing some part of its electricity from power plant, supplies the fuel-oil from the foreign market. Regarding the contract made soon after in 26.10.2009, TPIC realized 799.000 tons fuel-oil shipment to KIB-TEK Teknecik Terminal from TÜPRAŞ ( Aliaga and Korfez) Facilities until today.

Iraq Petroleum and Petroleum Products Trade

TPIC launched petroleum products trade with Iraq in 1999. Petroleum products supplied from Tüpraş and international market were delivered to Iraq Petroleum Marketing Company SOMO via land and railway shipments. Between 1999-2002, 1.8 million tons of petroleum products brought to TPIC/Habur plant from Iraq were sold to the national fuel oil distribution companies. In addition, between 2000-2003, 5.4 million tons of petroleum was sold to Tüpraş via marine shipment after it was brought by TPIC from Iraq through land shipment. Between 2003 and 2010, TPIC traded 1.9 million petroleum products, fuel-oil and diesel in total. As an important player in the region, TPIC’s attempts for new projects with increasing volumes in Iraqi trade market are on the agenda.
