    UPDATE: HOW

    CONSTRUCTION

    AFFECTS THE LOCALCOMMUNITY

    Lend Lease is committed to working with SouthwarkCouncil and the local community to ensure thatwe minimise the impact o our works during theconstruction process. Saety is our number one priority

    and Lend Lease operates an Incident & Injury Freeculture on all o our sites. All Lend Lease sites areregistered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

    VEHICLE SAFETY

    Lend Lease iscommitted to ensuringall construction vehiclesoperate saely whendelivering to and rom thesite. We will ensure allsuppliers and contractorsoperating Heavy GoodsVehicles (HGVs) achievea minimum o a bronzestandard with the FreightOwners RecognitionScheme (FORS) along

    with the Sae UrbanDriving (SUD) trainingcourse, both operated byTL prior to accessing ourconstruction site.

    The site works areprogressing well and wehave been helped bythe good weather thissummer. There are ourindividual blocks withinTraalgar Place and each

    o them is a dierentsize and shape. To beginbuilding these blocks, ourmain site activity currentlyconsists o pouring theconcrete oundations and

    installing the drainage oreach building.

    Once the buildingoundations are completeyou will start to see therst foor taking shape,helped by the three towercranes that were installedduring August. As we

    move into autumn we willcontinue to build upwardsand start to install theexternal cladding andbrickwork. By the NewYear we will be starting to

    t out the lower foors othe new buildings.

    TRAFALGAR PLACE SITE NEWS

    TRAFFIC CHANGESThe new site accessroad rom Rodney Roadthrough to Balour Streetopened in late September.This new access will

    reduce the trac alongBalour Street as vehicleswill no longer enter romhere, only using it as anexit. They will also beable to enter the pit lane

    prior to exiting ontoRodney Road.

    TIMELINE

    AUTUMN 2013

    Opening o haul roadand pit lane to enableone way access acrossthe site rom Rodney

    Road. Commencethe installation o thebuilding envelopeincluding windows.

    WINTER 2013/14

    Works on the buildingaade begin, touto the rst buildingstarts and the powersubstation becomesoperational.

    SPRING/SUMMER 2015

    The site gets readyor occupation, withpractical completion due

    in early summer 2015.

    TREES AND GREEN SPACE

    Lend Lease is committed to planting andretaining up to 1,600 trees across Elephant& Castle over the next 11 years.

    To add to the existing mature trees on the Traalgar Placesite, we are planting 22 new trees during September2013 in our locations: Charlie Chaplin Park, MasonStreet, Salisbury Row and Paragon Gardens. These new

    trees will be the rst in a wider tree planting programmewhich will see a total o 74 new trees planted onsite atTraalgar Place and 30 more planted in the local areaaround the site. The trees will enhance local biodiversitywith dierent types o tree species that will encouragemore wildlie into the area. We will then maintain them

    or the rst three years, which will ensure that theygrow and fourish in the uture.

    Scheme, Lend Lease iscommitted to using thesaest and least disruptiveconstruction methodspossible. We regularlymonitor the noise that

    the construction activitygenerates and ensure thatwe work within pre-agreednoise limits. We alsoensure that all machinery isserviced correctly and plan

    all our tasks in advanceusing tried and testedmethods. However, we arealso always looking out orbetter (and quieter) wayso building. I you have

    DROP IN SESSION

    Drop-in sessions are heldon the rst Tuesday oevery month between4-6pm at the consultationhub on Walworth Road.

    The sessions give peoplethe opportunity to speakwith the Lend Leasedevelopment team,look over material rompast exhibitions, or view

    HEYGATE

    DEMOLITION UPDATEThe Heygate demolition willbegin rom late September2013 and will take placeover the next 15 months.It involves careul clearance

    and dismantling o thebuildings interiors, beorethe exteriors start to comedown in early 2014.

    Residents around the

    Heygate will receive aletter shortly to explain thedemolition has started andhow it will impact the area.We will keep you updatedthroughout the demolition

    MARTYN FENNELL/ Project Director

    Martyn has worked in the residentialconstruction industry or almost 40 yearsand led the regeneration o Edmonton

    Partnership Initiative delivering over1,000 homes.

    TEDROS DESTA

    Teddy joined the project in June 2013working or Clipne Ltd, who provide the

    site logistics and security. He is a resident oElephant & Castle and pleased to be workinglocally. Teddys role is to ensure that ourdeliveries and vehicles are managed saely.

    JEMIMA BAMGBOSE

    Jemima is working with Lend lease onTraalgar Place as part o a 12 monthplacement rom Westminster Universitywhere she is studying Building Surveying.Jemima is helping to manage our sub-contractors and works packages. She will

    return to university having had real, relevantexperience rom working on such a largescale regeneration project.
