Awards
• For the 2019 58th SOT Annual Meeting, HOT awarded 1 Distinguished Toxicologist Award, 3
Travel Awards and 1 Special Travel Award for a HOT member outside U.S. Special thank you

Career
Development
• In 2019 with the support of SOT, HOT offered the Mentoring Activity “Careers in Toxicology” during
the SOT Annual Meeting. The HOT 2019 Mentoring Activity “Path to Success: Tips and
Strategies for my Professional Interview” will be held on Tuesday, March 12th from 12:30 to
1:30 PM in Severn Room 1-3 of the Sheraton Inner Harbor. The event will include roundtable
discussions with experts from academia, government and industry.
• HOT interviewed Dr. Ofelia Olivero (NIH) regarding mentoring in the life sciences. This two-part
video interview can be accessed at http://www.toxicology.org/groups/sig/hot/education.asp.

• Active participation at SOT 2019, 15th International Congress of Toxicology (Honolulu, HI), and 11th
Congress of Toxicology in Developing Countries (CTDC11, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia).
HOT Newsletter
• From April 1, 2018-March, 1 2019, 4 Toxenlaces have been published. Particular sections
include the Trainee Section with 3 contributions, 3 short Scientific Articles by invited HOT
members, and 1 HOT Professional Tip by Teresa Palacios.
HOT Initiatives
• The communications committee has increased social media outreach to 1,116 followers.
• Three HOT Executive Committee members are actively participating in the 15th International
Congress of Toxicology (ICTXV), which will take place on July 15-18,2019 in Honolulu, HI

Outreach
• As part of the webinar series “Updates in Toxicology”, HOT and Clubes de Ciencia México
(CdeCMx) hosted the webinar “Alzheimer Disease: Role of the Brain-Blood Barrier” on June 21st,
2018. The webinar was presented by Dr. Elvis-Yane Cuevas-Martínez, and there were a total of
18 attendees from Mexico, Peru, Guatemala, Spain and US. Additionally, on October 16th,
2018, HOT sponsored the webinar "Epigenetics and Toxicology" for the first time with Clubes de
Ciencia Brasil and University of Sao Paulo, which was presented by our HOT Councilor, Dr.
Aline De Conti. This webinar beat our audience records, with a total of 78 attendees from 9
countries (Brazil, Peru, Chile, Spain, Mexico, Canada, Germany, Finland and US).

Postdoctoral Assembly Luncheon
Tuesday, March 12 12 pm to 1:00 pm CC Room 325 (Ticket Required)
The Postdoctoral Assembly (PDA) Luncheon is a casual event that encourages engagement and networking
among postdoctoral scholars. Finishing up a discussion from your morning poster session? Leaving early to
set up a poster or attend another meeting? That’s no problem; stop in when you can! Enjoy a buffet lunch
while networking with others, including PDA officers, Postdoctoral Representatives, and SOT Councilors. This
is the time for postdocs to relax, celebrate achievements, and have fun. At 12:45 pm, there will be a short
program, which will include recognition of the Best Postdoctoral Publication Award recipients and the
welcoming of the 2019–2020 PDA officers. Door prizes add even more fun to this lively event. Postdocs
should reserve a ticket for $10 when registering for the Annual Meeting.
