Northborough Votes NO on Ar-ticle 58.

On Wednesday night April 30, 2014 voters of the town of Northbor-ough sent a very clear message to town officials by voting no or Ar-ticle 58.

The vast majority of voters who had sat through three nights of Annual Town Meeting voted over-whelmingly against overriding a recent MA Superior Court decision, which deemed the range use not only legal, but also perfectly safe for the surrounding neighbors.

The genesis of this Article and this story goes back twenty years, to 1994 when David Brown and his wife Carmel carefully selected and purchased a tract of land to build their house with accompanying target range in the backyard.

A letter to GOAL from David, who is a life member, told the story.

“Carmel and I have lived in North-borough for many years. We are avid target shooters. We moved to Northborough in 1994 because we could buy enough land there

to construct a small target range for our own use. We have com-plied with all the laws. For over 15 years we used our range without incident. We have tried to be good neighbors.”

What he’s not saying here is that

he met numerous times with town officials and was told that the land abutting his purchased property was not developable. Fast-forward a few years and that changed, we’ll pick up with David again.

Gun Owners’ Action League is the official Massachusetts state association of the National Rifle Association.

Join GOAL Protecting Your Freedom Begins Here!Gun Owners’ Action League is the official state firearms association in Massachusetts. We are an association of law-abiding citizens who be-lieve in the basic right of firearms ownership for competition, recreation and self-protection.

GOAL works hard to defend the Constitution and the Bill of Rights against those in Massachusetts who wish to infringe upon the freedoms guar-anteed by our forefathers. The programs sponsored and developed by Gun Owners’ Action League are supported by competitors, sportsmen, recreational shooters and law enforcement throughout the state.

We were formed in 1974 to protect the right to keep and bear arms for lawful purposes in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We are recog-nized as the state’s premier gun rights association.

Why You Should Join GOAL

Every intrusion on our gun rights is an intrusion on all rights. The Con-stitutional rights and freedoms that you enjoy - and may take for grant-ed - are becoming more fragile each day. Secure your rights for yourself, your family and future generations. Join GOAL and become part of the solution today.

Gun Owners’ Action League is a grassroots organization whose mem-bers actively participate in the many facets of protecting our Second Amendment rights and passing on the shooting sports traditions.

No one has any reason to fear the possession of firearms by law-abiding citizens. GOAL publishes materials to bring the truth about gun owner-ship to the public, the legislature and our members.

We also provide courses to new shooters, as well as certification train-ing for those wishing to become firearms instructors. We also provide referrals to instructors around the state.

From the Executive DirectorThe Bifurcated Massachusetts Democrat Party

With another election year upon us we lawful gun owners are fac-ing some of the same familiar at-tacks by state level and higher candidates. While on a recent de-bate with gubernatorial candidate Steve Grossman on the One Gun a Month (Lawful Citizens Imprison-ment Act) legislation I made the comment that we have a bifur-cated Democrat party here in the Commonwealth. Throughout the state legislature gun owners have many good friends with a (D) at-tached to their name. Long time RKBA heroes like Senator Stephen Brewer, Senator Richard Moore and Rep. Stephen Kulik have been joined over the years by dozens more that have our best interests at heart. Even the new mayor of Boston, Marty Walsh, held an A rat-ing for many years in the House.

The problem seems to come when Massachusetts Democrats run for higher office such as Governor or US Congress. It seems the first page on the playbook for Demo-crats running for these higher po-sitions is to immediately attack the NRA and GOAL. Of course there are the occasional Republicans that do the same thing such as Richard Tisei and Gabriel Gomez

and it cost them the election. For the most part though, it is Demo-crats that use lawful gun owners as a punching bag when they seek these higher offices.

Try to find a Democrat candidate in the last decade or two for Gov-ernor, US Congress, US Senate, MA Attorney General, etc. that has not immediately come out for more “gun control”. For example, Steve Grossman and I have par-ticipated in two televised debates over more gun control measures. During these events he has con-tinually trashed gubernatorial candidate Martha Coakley for not supporting a few of the measures he supports. Steve actually tried to portray Martha as the darling of the NRA. Why do this? Because, he wants to solidify himself as the gun control Democrat candidate.

Just take a look at Ed Markey’s race for US Senate. He was of course not new to this game, but is immediate attacks on NRA poli-cies and his support for gun con-trol measures like “smart gun” technologies was front and center as he worked to stake his claim as the gun control candidate.

This all brings us to the big ques-tion. Why do we have so many good Democrat friends in the State House, but the party people who

run for higher office through us to the wind at their first opportunity? It is likely that pollsters are telling them that is what the public wants to hear, it is also likely that the sup-porters with deep pockets are say-ing the same thing. Whatever the answer, it is simply unacceptable.

We lawful gun owners of the Com-monwealth are from all walks of life. We are doctors, lawyers, union members, construction workers, brick layers, steel work-ers, teachers, police officers, fire-fighters, you name it. We should not become stepping stones for politicians seeking higher office. If nothing else these people should educate themselves on the abject failure of control right here in Mas-sachusetts, but that never seems to matter. In this election year gun owners should make a con-certed effort to reach out to these candidates and ask them the tough questions. The real tough questions should not be focused on their stance on high capac-ity mags or one gun a month, but rather why do they always come out and attack lawful gun own-ers when they seek higher office. Those are the answers we need to get on record. By the way, we should not accept any response that starts with: “I am a supporter of the Second Amendment, but

…” or the infamous “This proposal does not infringe on anyone’s Sec-ond Amendment rights.” Those are well rehearsed smoke screens used to cover their tracks. If they were supporters of RKBA then why are they continually bashing the very organizations that exist to protect it? During this year’s elec-tion cycle let’s get out there and do what we do best, expose the lies and deliver the truth.

May 2014 GOAL News Print Edition 5

Is the tide beginning to turn?

Over the last year or so we’ve seen a major shift change towards a “more freedom” philosophy amongst certain segments of Mas-sachusetts voters.

This tectonic shift has occurred at local, town level elections, where, during the last year, the citizens of four different towns have over-whelmingly defeated a variety of anti-freedom proposals.

That’s great news. I’m sure many of you are thinking “probably towns out west, beyond the Route 495 corridor”. Well, I’m pleased to tell you that you would be partial-ly correct in thinking that. Of the towns involved, only one of them was west of Route 495, that being the location of your Gun Owners’ Action League’s state Headquar-ters, Northborough.

Of the other three, we had one town on the North Shore (Swamp-scott) and two in Metro West, which are, interestingly enough neighboring towns (Sudbury and Wayland).

The really interesting thing about these last three is that they are notoriously liberal, pro “every-thing Democrat” towns, which have been won by the anti Second Amendment Democrat candidate in just about every statewide elec-tion since JFK was a congressman. (Side note, does anyone else find it really interesting that JFK’s poli-tics are way right of most of to-day’s Republican legislators/can-didates?)

Anyways, I have some pretty deep roots in Sudbury, my grandfather built his own home there in the early 30s, digging the foundation by hand and building the house, which still stands today. My mom and her siblings grew up there, in what was at the time a sleepy farm town known mostly for being the former residence of Babe Ruth. Over the years it has changed, the farmland where corn once grew next to my mom’s house is now a soccer complex and the town is for the most part a sleepy white-collar bedroom community on the upside of affluence.

Last May GOAL received word that sleepy Sudbury was about to wake up. An article (39) had been sub-mitted to the town warrant, which would, by increasing minimum distance zones basically ban the discharge of firearms, air rifles and even BB guns within town limits. The genesis of the article turned out to be a dispute between a per-son who was legally and safely shooting on his land and a neigh-bor, who is very anti-Second

Amendment.

Luckily GOAL caught wind of it, was able to issue email alerts and social media alerts and mobilize the citizens to attend the 3 night Annual Town Meeting where the article was soundly defeated. Vic-tory, that’s the Sudbury I know!

A busy Summer passed and into the Fall, the town battles began anew, this time in Swampscott when a Swampscott selectman, one Barry Greenfield initiated a “discussion” about mandatory home inspections for all residents who lawfully owned firearms. GOAL got wind of this early on and once again got word out through the usual channels, outrage quick-ly ensued and almost as quickly selectman Greenfield started back pedaling. When Second Amend-ment supporters flooded his in-box and phone lines with calls he claimed that he only wanted to discuss the possibility of imple-menting something like that. Yah, sure he did, anyways, once again we got the word out, citizens took action and the anti civil rights non-sense was stopped cold.

Fall turned to winter and on into January we went when the anti liberty flame started burning once again, this time in Wayland. (Sometimes working here really feels like playing whack-a mole). This time we had a somewhat large group of anti Second Amend-ment activists filing a petition that did two things, it banned the dis-charge of firearms within town limits and went after Wayland Rod & Gun Club. Once again GOAL was informed about what was go-ing on, got word out through our channels and working with the leadership of Wayland Rod & Gun, rallied the good citizens to con-tact town officials and urge them to withdraw the misguided article from the town warrant.

They were successful and the ar-ticle was withdrawn, the select-man were literally inundated with phone calls, emails and letters for over 40 days. Once again, liberty won.

Just after we caught our breath from Wayland, the recent North-borough situation dropped in our lap, once again we had anti gun activists who lost a court battle to shut down a private range, seek a backdoor method of going about it. Once again we were fight-ing against a town article on the Annual Meeting warrant. GOAL got word out early, worked with the landowner under attack and urged the good citizens of North-borough to get to their three-day town meeting.

Attend they did, having to sit through two long nights before fi-nally getting to the article in ques-tion. Once it came up for discus-sion the overwhelming majority of residents spoke against the article and when it came up for a vote it was resoundingly defeated. An-other sweet sweet victory for lady liberty.

So here we are, 4 victories in 4 towns, citizens consistently send-

ing a pro liberty message to their elected officials. I hope that this is the genesis of a paradigm shift in Massachusetts, a change in tide, let liberty wash ashore once again.

“It does not take a majority to pre-vail... but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brush-fires of freedom in the minds of men.”

Samuel Adams.

Bettina’s Take By: Bettina Romberg

The Massachusetts 27

“There are two potential viola-tors of man’s rights: the criminals and the government. The great achievement of the United States was to draw a distinction between these two — by forbidding to the second the legalized version of the activities of the first.” - Ayn Rand, “Man’s Rights”

Since the printing of last month’s GOAL News, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced that his group, May-ors Against Illegal Guns would be called Everytown for Gun Safety.

Much like the partnership be-tween Moms Demand Action and Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Ev-erytown also brings in survivors of gun violence, individuals who have lost friends or family to crim-inal behavior. Everytown clearly wants to use their anecdotes to influence legislation. If you went to any of the hearings last year, you remember listening to many of these individuals who all seem to have rehearsed testimony.

Mr. Bloomberg says, the goal of this new group is to attack the NRA. I encourage you to visit the new website, www.everytown.org, as it is extremely important to know how the other side oper-ates.

The most important aspect of the Everytown website I want you to look at is the introduction. It is cleverly presented, clearly Mr. Bloomberg spent a lot of money on just this section. You have the option to scroll through the mes-sage or to watch a video.

The beginning is alright. It has one word that declares their premise which even we can buy into. They claim that there is an epidemic of gun violence. This may or may not be true, and the causes of it may need to be further

examined, but there is also a fatal switch in there that is aided by a gruesome photo meant to play on readers’ emotions. I will give you the words, without all the fancy stuff Mr. Bloomberg paid for here:

“A movement is rising. It takes 1 nation, indivisible, to end gun vio-lence. Moms, teachers, survivors, gun owners, mayors and leaders on both sides of the aisle all work-ing to tackle this epidemic. This is a movement of Americans com-ing together to stop gun violence (background picture of gruesome scars on someone’s abdomen). Keeping guns out of the wrong hands and passing common sense reforms. Together, we’re building a safer future. Every Mom. Every child. Every teacher. Every may-or. Every town. Everytown for gun safety. Join us.”

Did you catch the switch? It is on the words, “wrong hands,” and “common sense reforms.” These are just anti-concepts. I covered what anti-concepts are in detail in the GOAL News in April 2014. If you have read that column, you can see that they are up to the same typical tricks.

During my research for last month’s column, I came across the list of mayors who are mem-bers in this group. In April, there were 28 members in Massachu-setts. Now in May, there are 27, as Lowell, the city where I live, has a new mayor who has not (yet) joined the group.

I thought I’d let you know which mayors are members of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, now Every-town For Gun Safety. Some may surprise you, some won’t.

Of the 351 cities and towns in Massachusetts, here are the 27 members, listed with the mayors’ names and contact information:

These mayors have signed the Statement of Principles that May-ors Against Illegal Guns is based on:

“Whereas: 30,000 Americans across the country are killed every year as a result of gun violence, destroying families and com-munities in big cities and small towns; and Whereas: As mayors, we are duty-bound to do every-thing in our power to protect our residents, especially our children, from harm and there is no greater threat to public safety than the threat of illegal guns; Now, there-fore, we resolve to work together to find innovative new ways to ad-vance the following principles:

Punish to the maximum extent of the law criminals who possess, use, and traffic in illegal guns.

Target and hold accountable irre-sponsible gun dealers who break the law by knowingly selling guns to straw purchasers.

Oppose all federal efforts to re-strict cities’ rights to access, use, and share trace data that is so es-sential to effective enforcement, or to interfere with the ability of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms to combat illegal gun trafficking.

Work to develop and use technol-ogies that aid in the detection and tracing of illegal guns.

Support all local state and federal legislation that targets illegal guns and keeps guns out of the hands of dangerous people coordinate legislative, enforcement, and liti-gation strategies; and share infor-mation and best practices.

Invite other cities to join us in this new national effort.”

May 20th Remembered.

As a writer, I have come to a re-alization that we hold back from commentary in critical issue as we have become almost conditioned to be Politically Correct. This is no accident. Our political leaders have become dependent on our lack of willingness to challenge certain social issues, and the main stream media in this country is too focused on the latest celebrity scandal, rather than the news, to report on the true challenges we face as a nation.

One of these challenges is that the First Amendment – the very thing that affords me the freedom to write this piece – is under attack in a slow and insidious manner. The attack is coming from inside the country and from element outside who would have us, as a nation, silenced and afraid to speak out, and we are all falling for the politi-cally correct hypnosis routine.

The event that spurred me to write this piece was the fate of the Seat-tle based satirical journalist Molly Norris. Never heard of Ms. Norris? I’m not really surprised, but bear with me as we get to her story.

The main threat to our freedoms in my opinion, and our right to speak out against the threat, comes from groups such as the Muslim Broth-erhood, the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) and their influence over American politi-cians and the mainstream liberal media that back their supposed mission of peace and coexistence. The Brotherhood, for one, is a front for the expansion of Islam to be the dominate doctrine in the world. Part of that dominance is their principle of “Civilization Ji-had” - a slow and careful imposi-tion of Islam and the controlling Shariah law that dominates the religion. Now, it would appear the

Brotherhood and their ilk has so hoodwinked our media and politi-cians into the notion that anyone speaking out against their aims and goals is “Islamaphobic” – just irrationally afraid of Islam and a term they first coined. They have also conveniently fooled enough people into thinking that speak-ing out (AKA speaking the truth) is blasphemous against Islam.

Let’s pause for a second to take a look at what blasphemy against Islam looks like. There is no refer-ence to blasphemy in the Quran, but rather it is an interpretation by the clerics and Shariah law enforc-ing Imam’s who can, basically, de-termine what blasphemy is in any given situation. Don’t like what I just said? Blasphemy! Don’t like the way a female family member is dressed? Blasphemy! Want to stop people committing blas-phemy? Stop them talking about Islam.

We have become so Politically Correct in a post 9/11 America that the government has pressured the media to censor itself. On Oct. 6, 2001 at its National Convention in Seattle, the Society of Profes-sional Journalists passed a reso-lution urging members and fellow journalists to take steps against racial profiling in their coverage of the war on terrorism when dealing with the issues of Islam in the me-dia. For example, when discussing terrorists, journalists should strive for a balance of “moral equivalen-cy” and include white suprema-cist, radical anti-abortionists and other groups with a history of such activity. They should not imply that kneeling on the floor praying, listening to Arabic music or recit-ing from the Quran are peculiar ac-tivities. Journalists should avoid using word combinations such as “Islamic terrorist” or “Muslim ex-tremist” that are “misleading” be-

cause they link whole religions to criminal activity.

Be specific, they are told: Alter-nate choices, depending on con-text, include “Al Qaeda terrorists” or, to describe the broad range of groups involved in Islamic politics, “political Islamists.” They should also avoid using terms such as “Ji-had” or “Taqiyya” unless they are certain of their precise meaning and include the context when they are used in quotations. The ba-sic meaning of “jihad”, in the po-litically correct world of self-cen-sored post 9/11 journalism, is to exert oneself for the good of Islam and to better oneself, and not the mass slaughter of non-believers working in the Twin Towers in New York. We certainly don’t want the masses knowing that the practice of “Taqiyya”, enshrined in Shariah, encourages Islamists to be de-ceitful about their true intentions when dealing with non-believers.

Okay, so what has the issue of blas-phemy and Shariah law got to do with Molly Norris? Well, as a satiri-cal journalist, Molly was trying to bring a touch of humor to a string of events that has seen the cre-ators of the cartoon show “South Park” receive death threats from aggrieved Muslims at the notion of the prophet Mohamed being de-picted in any way in an episode of their cartoon show. This story has a background, so let’s take a look at the buildup to what would be a disaster for Molly Norris.

Cast your minds back to the 1980’s and the book by author Salman Rushdie “The Satanic Verses”, which happened to be his fourth novel (note: novel, not documen-tary). The book looked at elements of Mohammed’s life and the na-ture of his writings. The book was highly acclaimed in the UK, win-ning the 1989 Whitbread Award for

fiction and was just edged out for the Booker prize that same year.

Unfortunately, some elements of the Muslim world, notable Iran’s Ayatollah Khomeini, didn’t appre-ciate the portrayal of Mohammed in a fictional world and decided that Rushdie should be put to death after Khomeini declared a Fatwa against the author in 1989. Rushdie was forced to go into hid-ing after riots, demonstrations and book burnings in the UK and beyond supported the call for the Fatwa against the author. Shabbir Akhtar, a Cambridge philosophy graduate called for “a negotiated compromise” which “would pro-tect Muslim sensibilities against gratuitous provocation”. The Brit-ish journalist and author Andy Mc-Smith wrote at the time a rather though provoking and foreshad-owing comment, “We are wit-nessing, I fear, the birth of a new and dangerously illiberal “liberal” orthodoxy designed to accommo-date Dr. Akhtar and his fundamen-talist friends.”

While Rushdie remains in hiding and unhurt – the Fatwa was lifted in 1998, but later put in place again in 2005 –some of his colleagues did not fare as well. His Japanese translator was stabbed to death in Tokyo in 1991 and, the same year, Continued on page 9

and Carmel were very thorough in building an exceptionally safe range.

“We have made improvements to our range to make sure it was safe. We even had it inspected by two range experts who found that it was safe. “

The town would have none of it though.

“The town claimed state law re-quired us to have the permission of all the neighbors within 500 feet of our firing line before we could use our range. We said that indoor and outdoor firing ranges were ex-empt from that requirement.”

The town of Northborough would not lift the cease and desist order so David and Carmel took the town of Northborough to court and won at Superior Court.

After the loss in Superior Court the town of Northborough, not want-ing to go to the expense of appeal-ing at the State Supreme Court sought a back door means of shut-ting the range down, via an article at town meeting banning the dis-charge of firearms within the town of Northborough and within 500 feet of any dwelling.

The article was tricky in that it was written to exclude the language in MA c269 s12e (c. d. and e.), which grants an exemption for shooting ranges.

Approximately one month before town meeting David and his lawyer Karen MacNutt contacted GOAL asking us to broadcast informa-tion to our membership about the pending article and town meeting.

“Article 58 is proposed to circum-vent the court ruling and state law

by creating a by-law that would allow any neighbor (even a new one) within 500 feet of our firing line to prevent us from using our own property for a use that has been found to be both lawful and safe.

Article 58 is not about safety. It is unfair and based on prejudice. It sets a very bad precedent. If you are a Northborough voter, call the town to see when Article 58 is like-ly to come to a vote. Please attend the meeting and vote No on Article 58.

GOAL immediately began com-municating with David and Karen, broadcasting the information to our membership, urging North-borough’s registered voters to at-tend town meeting.

As previously mentioned, North-borough voters showed up and

“Despite promises from the town of North-borough, the land was developed and Da-vid found himself no longer able to use his shooting range on his private property.”

sat through the first two of three nights, waiting for their time to de-bate and vote on Article 58.

Finally Article 58 came up for discussion. Chief Leahy made a lengthy presentation about the range and why he felt is should be shut down. Following the pre-sentation many residents stood to speak against the article. The overwhelming opinion, reflected by the vote was that the new land-owners were wrong to try to force Mr. Brown to cease using the range

on his property.

“The owners of the abutting prop-erties knew that there was an ac-tive target range on Mr. Brown’s property, now they have a right to say that he needs to shut it down, after nearly 20 years? How is that fair? Why have we not discussed the option of them building a berm on their property to protect their house?”

Our democracy was setup to work exactly as it did on Wednesday night, to protect the rights of an individual from overreaching ef-forts to restrict freedom by gov-ernment.

GOAL is very proud of the residents of Northborough who saw this for what it was, thank you again to all involved.

companies selling everything from magazines to grips and everything in between. Of course those of us from the oppressed states had to walk by many products that we are not allowed to possess. At NRA President’s reception on Sunday Magpul sponsored the gathering. They gave everyone attending two brand new 30 round AR mags and tearfully I had to give ours to a friend from Arizona.

There were all kinds of special seminars and presentations to attend. Things like a firearm law seminar, concealed carry, guns of the Battle of the Bulge, Men of D-Day, Survival Preparation, Dog Training and even Advanced Sau-sage Making. The Clubs and As-sociations seminar gave a lot of information about new NRA pro-grams like 3 gun challenges. If that was not enough for you there is always the Annual Meeting of the Members where all of the officers of the NRA would give their an-nual reports and speeches. At the Lucas Oil Stadium there was NRA Country Jam with guest speak-ers Sarah Palin and Lt. Col. Oliver North along with bands Alabama and Sara Evans.

Of course for me there were the countless meetings, lunch and dinner get togethers with our fel-low state association leaders and other advocates from across the country. As always, the conversa-tion focused on what we are facing in our prospective local areas and what we are doing to protect the RKBA on the home fronts.

I would urge any gun owners to at-tend the event at least once. Tens of thousands of gun owners flock to it every year and it is refreshing to be outside an oppressed state to see that freedom still exists in this country.

Coakley of Standing with the NRA because she did not support Gov-ernor Patrick’s one gun a month legislation.

The article was shared on GOAL social media with this caption: “Grossman accuses Coakley of not being an aggressive enough gun grabber. Only in MA is a Gov-ernors race like this possible.”

Grossman saw this and challenged GOAL to the debate, also including A.G. Coakley, because in his mind, she was “standing with the NRA”.

Shortly before the debate, GOAL released this statement, inviting members to attend and watch:

Second Amendment Showdown - Tomorrow at the State House!

GOAL Executive Director Jim Wal-lace will stand for the Second Amendment and MA Gun Owners tomorrow when he debates State Treasurer and candidate for Gov-ernor Steve Grossman and pos-sibly A.G. Martha Coakley (if she shows).

Dear GOAL Members,

Late last week, one of the candi-dates running to be our next Gov-ernor attacked GOAL for not sup-porting Governor Patrick’s plan to limit gun purchases to one gun a month.

Why would we support this legis-lation?!!? Why would we want to limit someone’s 2nd Amendment Rights? This is what GOAL has

been fighting against in the Com-monwealth for 40 years!

Anti-civil rights Gubernatorial can-didate, Steve Grossman, also is-sued a challenge to GOAL, for us to debate him on the State House steps - so GOAL is accepting his challenge.

Tomorrow GOAL’s Executive Direc-tor, Jim Wallace, will stand on the steps of the State House and de-fend our 2nd Amendment Rights against this liberal, anti-civil rights candidate who believes we need even more “gun safety reform” in Massachusetts.

Do you have time to come and support Jim tomorrow at the de-bate? GOAL is asking supporters to come stand with him in defense of their 2nd Amendment Rights:

Thursday, April 17th at 1:00pm - State House Steps

Limiting gun purchases to one per month, registering private sales at gun shops, and using supposed “smart technology” on firearms would do nothing to stop gun vio-lence in the Commonwealth. What we need is common sense strate-gies for stopping criminals from perpetrating crime.

With your help, we can stop these liberal elitists from taking away our 2nd Amendment Rights.

Sincerely,

Gun Owners’ Action League

his Italian translator was beaten and stabbed in Milan. In 1993, Rushdie’s Norwegian publisher was shot and seriously injured outside his Oslo home. Later that year a crowd, angrily demonstrat-ing at the presence of his Turkish translator, Aziz Mezin , torched a hotel in the Turkish town of Suas, killing 37 innocent guests.

All in the name of blasphemy.

Then we have Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard who created a controversial strip showing the prophet Mohammed with a bomb tucked in his turban. Was this a culturally insensitive act? Prob-ably, but then again Demark is a free country with a right of free speech. Should Westergaard have realized that his cartoon would ignite a firestorm of Islamic pro-tests that would result in a Fatwa, multiple attempts on his life and a future that would see him under constant police protection? Prob-ably. Should this have stopped him? No, I would argue that fear of being persecuted for practic-ing your right to free speech is better than not speaking out for fear of recrimination. I truly feel that an open and honest discus-sion about the goals of Islam, the Muslim Brotherhood and Shariah, with respect to the western world , is something the Islamists fear the most.

South Park, the animated sitcom created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone for the Comedy Central television network, has become notorious for its crude language and dark, surreal humor that lampoons a wide range of top-ics. Nothing, in the eyes of Parker and Stone, is off limits. It was sad, therefore, that Islamist and Mus-lim convert Zachary Adam Chess-er – who now goes by the name of Abu Talhah al Amrikee – saw fit to threaten the creators of the show with the same fate as Theo Van Gouge for their representation of the prophet Mohammed on two episodes of the 2005 season. It’s worth bearing in mind that Theo Van Gouge was brutally murdered on the streets of Amsterdam in 2004 by Dutch Moroccan Islamic terrorist Mohammed Bouylri. His crime, in the eyes of Islam, was the creation of a film called “Sub-mission” which depicted and cri-tiqued – heaven and Mohammed forbid – the abuse and subordina-tion of women under Shariah law.

So this brings us back to Molly Norris. In the wake of the South Park death threats and other sub-sequent Islamist blasphemy Fat-

was, Molly sought to bring a little humor to the situation by declar-ing May 20th 2010, in the Seattle Daily, to be “Everybody Draw Mo-hammed” day. Her cheerful car-toon had a box of pasta, a cotton reel, a cherry, a cup of tea and a songbird – all perfectly innocent images – each declaring they were the true image of Mohammed . Her sentiment was to have too many folks be a target for the blasphe-my police of Shariah and, well, to stand up for the First Amendment. Unfortunately for Molly, American born radical Muslim cleric Anwar al-Awlaki didn’t see the funny side of her little movement and issued a Fatwa against her in a most usual manner. He chose to use a Muslim youth magazine, printed in Eng-lish, to declare that Molly Norris should be murdered and also said she was a “prime target” and that her “proper abode was Hellfire.”

Faced with this threat, Molly turned to the FBI who, in a shame-lessly spineless move, told her she should go “ghost” – vanish, disap-pear, erase her life and start a new one. Basically, a witness protec-tion program she would have to fund herself. So, she vanished and is still in hiding. I am sure, howev-er, that she had an opinion on the irony regarding the Predator drone strike against Anwar al-Awlaki that vaporized him from the face of the earth in 2011. The weapons that dispatched al-Awlaki off this mor-tal coil and into the bosom of Allah were Hellfire missiles.

We make excuses for the practices of Islamists and their drive to see Shariah law imposed on the U.S. judicial system. The misguided New York Times stated that, “Giv-en time, American Muslims, like all other religious minorities be-fore them, will adjust their legal and theological traditions, if nec-essary, to accord with American values.” Big red flashing warning signs should be going off in Times Square if that really is what the politically correct liberal left truly believe. The Muslim Brotherhood has clearly laid out its plans for “Civilization Jihad” and those in political office that would have us buy their claptrap notions on the benign nature of the Islamists are asleep at the switch at best. The only adjustments the Brother-hood is seeking are to our system of laws, not theirs.

Wherever you are Molly, I hope you read this and remember that May 20th is still “Everybody Draw Mo-hammad” day.

Join GOAL - Protecting Your Freedom Begins Here!Gun Owners’ Action League is the official state firearms association in Massachusetts. We are an asso-ciation of law-abiding citizens who believe in the basic right of fire-arms ownership for competition, recreation and self-protection.

GOAL works hard to defend the Constitution and the Bill of Rights against those in Massachusetts who wish to infringe upon the freedoms guaranteed by our fore-fathers. The programs sponsored and developed by Gun Owners’ Action League are supported by competitors, sportsmen, recre-ational shooters and law enforce-ment throughout the state.

We were formed in 1974 to protect the right to keep and bear arms for lawful purposes in the Common-wealth of Massachusetts. We are recognized as the state’s premier gun rights association.

Why You Should Join GOAL

Every intrusion on our gun rights is an intrusion on all rights. The Con-

stitutional rights and freedoms that you enjoy - and may take for granted - are becoming more frag-ile each day. Secure your rights

for yourself, your family and future generations. Join GOAL and be-come part of the solution today.

This will be a new feature in GOAL News – Print Edition. Each month we will spotlight one of many criminal Mayors who stand with Mike Bloomberg and his band of misguided gun grabbers. Many of the featured mayors are still in of-fice and still work with Bloomberg towards disarming law abiding Amercans.

This month we are featuring the former mayor of Hartford, CT. We’ll let the Hartford Courant tell the story: “Eddie Perez. The may-or, who promised an era of reform and accountability when he was elected nearly a decade ago, was sentenced to three years in prison in 2010 for accepting deeply dis-counted home repairs and trying to extort a payoff on behalf of a political ally.

Perez resigned June 25, one week

after a jury found him guilty of cor-ruption-related charges that in-cluded bribery and extortion. Be-fore his rise to the city’s top office, Perez was widely praised for his work as a community organizer.”

We, as a nation, need to wake up from the trance we have been induced into by the left leaning media and politi-cian, resist Shariah wherever and whenever we can, and not be afraid to speak out against groups that would subvert our country, our free-dom of speech and our way of life.

We are supposed to enjoy freedom of speech, under the First Amendment, but Political Correctness is strangling this nation by giving out labels to shut us up:

If I openly disagree with the president I am a racist and a bigot

Because I want to protect the consti-tution from the creeping imposition of Sharia law, I’m Islamaphobic

Because I believe that Israel has a right to protect itself, I am anti-Arab

Because I question what the main-

While I disagree with what people may call me, I will defend their right to do so. That is because of the label I give myself:

Comm2A has multiple pending cases in federal court in an effort to ensure state firearms law treats all lawful residents equally and fairly.

Considering recent news about mayors and other high profile individuals around the country leaving this organization because of the realization that Everytown is not really about illegal guns, but about confiscating firearms from lawful gun owners, one must question why these Massachu-setts mayors continue to be mem-bers. Are they interested in reduc-ing crime or violating the rights of residents in these towns? Protect-ing your rights and putting crimi-nals, individuals with the “wrong hands” behind bars, is the reason we pay taxes, so with all the bad press that this group has received -- why are they still members?

If you live in one of these cities or towns, you may wish to contact your mayor’s office and ask them just that. Suggest that they re-move themselves from this group as it is now well-known that Every-town is working toward violating the rights of law-abiding citizens, not protecting citizens from crimi-nals. Membership in this group is not why we have installed him or her as mayor. If they are con-cerned about people with the

“wrong hands” and want to sup-port “common sense reforms,” remind them that they are in of-fice to fight crime, not to make it easier for criminals to break laws. Remind them that there is no such thing as an illegal gun. There are only illegal actions, actions com-mitted by criminals. That is com-mon sense, not what Everytown wants to make you believe.

It is important that they recognize that membership in this group is a black mark against them, as the United States is founded on laws that uphold and protect the rights of the people.

Please let me know what feedback you receive from your effort. Feel free to e-mail me at the address below. If we have some results, I will be happy to write another col-umn.

Many thanks to our club members who are also Northborough residents and who attended the meetings over the past several nights. I especially would like to thank Mike Sweeney for providing information on this very important Northborough article.Congratulations to our latest five raf-fle winners and to both Pullman Arms and the Gun Parlor for handling the

transfers. Goal has just announced our latest raffle which will have the winner taking a 4000 round grand prize to include .223, 45ACP, 9 mm and 12 gauge ammunition. No bills appear to be moving on Bea-con Hill.Goal would like to thank the Worces-ter pistol rifle club for hosting our progressive carbine course with Scott Germaine. The class was excellent and the weather was terrible. We left the facility better than we found it and all barrels including indoor and outdoor barrels were emptied and we did a hell of a job policing the brass. It appears that the state police, towns and firearm record bureau are catch-ing up with licenses as we are hearing that delays continue to be declining. In closing, we hope that WP&R Club members found the Gun Law presen-tation to be worth their time. I’m hon-ored to share what I know.FOR MORE INFORMATION REGARDING GOAL, GO TO THE WEBSITE AT WWW.GOAL.ORGWorcester County League – Dave MorinThe last meeting was held at the Nim-rod League of Holden on April 18, 2014.
