encourage all parents to register as soon as possible as we have already begun
planning for the next school year. Parents are reminded that requests for class
placement cannot be guaranteed and can only be considered if submitted in writing
before April 1st. As well, parents do not need to make requests for grade 7 and 8
placements as the students will be on a rotary system. Thank you to all those
parents who have registered their children and have made TCMPS the right choice
for their child’s education.

This annual event, sponsored by the Town of Markham and the Markham Race Relations Advisory Committee, is a poster, writing, and video competition. Winners in each category will be recognized during the Many Faces of Markham event at the Flato Markham Theatre. All winners will be invited on stage to receive a certificate of recognition for their achievement on the afternoon of Sunday, March 16th. Thank you to all participating students and congratulations to the students who were awarded first, second or third place in their grade division for the poster, writing or video competition!

International Day
On Friday, March 7th, the elementary students will participate in the school’s International Day. This annual event is a wonderful cross cultural experience for our students and staff. Elementary students will be attending a special assembly which will include International Day performances. Students are encouraged to wear traditional clothing and to bring in a food dish from their country of origin for their class parties. Teachers will be posting a sign up sheet for any snack you may wish to contribute. We ask that a complete list of all ingredients accompany all food brought in for International Day.

TCMPS Olympics
TCMPS students and staff had a great time watching and cheering on our Canadian athletes as they
competed in the Sochi Winter Olympics. The students participated in our own Opening and
Closing ceremonies, as well as many fun activities throughout the duration of the Olympics.
Students were even able to watch the men’s and women’s hockey games which were televised on
the big screen in the Main Gymnasium. It was definitely our very enthusiastic cheering which helped
the Canadian teams win gold! Thank you to all teachers who helped make the TCMPS Olympics so
much fun and a wonderful learning experience!

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call or stop by the
Main Office anytime to speak to any one of the Vice-Principals.
The second semester got into full swing during the month of February. High School students settled into their new classes and got to know their new teachers. As always, in addition to our regular academic program, a number of fun events were scheduled throughout the month to help our students beat the February “blahs”: Valentine’s Day was celebrated on February 14th with a “Civvies Day” and our annual delivery of roses to friends, classmates, teachers and, in some cases, to “that special someone”. Also on February 14th we held our annual Talent Show. As always, this proved to be a tremendous success. Thanks to all who participated, and special thanks to the organizing crew of teachers and for all their efforts in putting together such a wonderful show. On February 21st, TCMPS elementary and high school band students participated in the annual Kiwanis Music Festival. The band played a new piece titled “Flight of Valour” which earned them a Silver certificate. Congratulations to Mr. Friedman, our Music teacher, and the band students! In the office, plans for this year’s summer programs are well underway. As we have done every year for the past few years, we will be offering a variety of full credit summer courses in a variety of subjects and grade levels. This will include a GRADE 9 FULL CREDIT COURSE in media arts which will be made available to our CURRENT GRADE 8 STUDENTS. All students currently registered in grade 8 at Town Centre are eligible to take these courses from July 2 to 28 for a full Ontario Ministry credit. Extra credits can be a great benefit to students as they enable them to take extra grade 12 courses in later years without overloading their timetable; this enables students to raise their grade 12 academic average and be more competitive when it comes time for them to apply to university. More information regarding summer courses are available in the High School Office.
