• Nord-Pas de Calais :

+ 4 million inhabitants, 86 billion € GDP;

+ 7 Universities, 28 graduate schools (business and engineering);+ an exceptional location between London, Brussels and Paris

3rd purchasing power in the world, in a 300km radius, behind Tokyo (1rst) and Cologne;

+ Industrial tradition;

+ diversity and youthful of the population;

With 6 axes of transversal engagements:1) Foster the creation of innovative enterprises;

2) Change the habits of regional SMEs by focusing on the analysis of business strategies and human capital;

3) Attract foreing direct investment having a "high technological intentisty", and change the reputation of the region;

4) Innovate through and for the services;

5) Better funding of innovation;

6) Enhance the potentiel of public and private research as well as the habits of technology transfer and research valorisation.

Future orientation of the S3 process

• Solve the paradox between economic specialisation and diversification (remember coal, steel industry…);

• Be more focused on actual priorities strategy;• Have to involve all the stakeholders at the begining of the

(re)design process;• Synergies to be developped with Champagne, Flanders,

Picardie, Wallonia, Kent…• Design the "entrepreneurial discovery process"
