1.Create a New Subject or a New Session(F2)andenterintherelevantsubjectinformation.

2. IfinWindowsmode,chooseEnter Test mode(F6),whichwillrestartyourcomputer.

The T.O.V.A. will automatically restart in Test mode with the subjects data le opened.

3.Check the hardware(F3).Donotadministeratestifanyofthehardwaretestsfail.

4.Present the stimuli(F4).Slowlyreadorparaphrasethefollowing(varyasneededfortheauditorytest):

This test measures your ability to pay attention. Two different kinds of squares will ash

onthecomputerscreen.Thesquareswilldifferonlyinthatoneofthemwillhaveasquare

nearthetop(indicatethetargetimage)andonewillhavethesquarenearthebottom

(indicate).Wewantyoutopressthisbutton(indicate)everytimeyouseethewhitesquare

withtheblacksquarenearthetop(indicate).Iwantyoutoholdthisbuttoninyourwritinghand (nd out which hand they use for writing) with your thumb resting lightly on top, like

this(indicate).Whenyoupressthebutton,letupwhenyouheartheclick.Dontholdthe

buttondownforlong,andpushitdownonlyonceforeachcorrectsquare.

Now we are going to ash the squares on the screen, and your job is to press the

buttonASFASTASYOUCANeverytimeyouseeasquarewiththesquarenearthe

top(indicate).ButthetrickisthatyouareNOTtopressthebuttonwhenthesquareis

nearthebottom(indicate).Remember;pressthebuttonasfastasyoucanbutonlyfor

thesquarewiththesquarenearthetop.Theideaofthistestisforyoutobeasfast,but

alsoasaccurate,asyoucan.Trynottomakeanymistakes.Butifyoudo,dontworry;everyonemakesmistakesonthistest.Tryandpressthebuttonasfastasyoucanbut

onlyforthesquarewiththesquareinthetop.Dontbetoofasttakeenoughtimeto

seewhichsquareitis.Dontguess.Onceyouvepressedthebutton,letupanddont

pressitmorethanoncewhenyouseethecorrectsquare.Anyquestions?

5.Administer the Practice Test(F5).Slowlyreadorparaphrasethefollowing: Nowwearegoingtodoapracticetestforabout3minutestoseeifyouunderstandhow

totakethetest.

6.Administer the T.O.V.A. Test(F6).Slowlyreadorparaphrasethefollowing(varyasneededfortheauditorytest):

Nowwearegoingtodotherealtestforabout20minutes.Dothebestjobyoucan.

Also,youshouldknowthatyoureyesareprobablygoingtogetalittletired.Evenso,

tryanddothebestjobyoucan...pressthebuttonasquicklyasyoucanbutonlyforthe

squarewiththeblacksquareonthetop.Clickthebuttontobeginthetest.

7. Interpret the test(F7).Thiswilluseoneinterpretationcredit.

8. IfinTestmode,Exit Test Mode(F12),whichwillrestartyourcomputer.TheT.O.V.A.will automatically restart in Windows with the subjects data le opened mode after abriefdelay.

9.Print the Report(F8).Thetestadministrationiscomplete.
