•  Promote cooperation of stakeholders

•  Inform, raise awareness and recognize performance


PROMOTE COOPERATION OF STAKEHOLDERS

(Golf Product Club) – Platform that features a component sharing of technical information and knowledge, well as a component of marketing, tourist information, calendar of events, especially related with golf.


INFORM, RAISE AWARENESS AND RECOGNIZE PERFORMANCE


(Sustainable Douro) – The National Geographic Society in 2009 put the Douro Valley in 7th place in the European ranking and 16th in the world tourist sustainable destinations.

2. SEASONALITY MANAGEMENT

•  Portuguese tourism demand is strongly concentrated in the summer months;

•  This has significant impacts in terms of sustainability in economic, environmental and social issues;

•  Initiatives to mitigate this…


INITIATIVES

•  Partnership between Portuguese Institute of Tourism and Portuguese and Madeira Airports Management Organizations;

•  Aim: to create new flight routes of touristic interest;

•  25 new routes were supported (included Ryanair).

•  Aim: Stimulate internal demand, especially to promote different times for holidays during the whole year;

•  Launching tourist routes of the world heritage (includes Batalha, Alcobaça and Tomar).

•  Certification of Tourism and Hospitality Schools (Lausanne Certification);

•  Training on-‐the-‐job;

•  Certification of Professionals.

•  Classification and registration of tourist facilities.

•  Recognition of projects with national interest;

•  Financial incentives to qualify offer.


4. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF SECTOR

•  Manage the main consumption and waste produced;

•  Reduce impacts on biodiversity;

•  Appropriate land management planning.


MANAGE THE MAIN CONSUMPTION AND WASTE PRODUCED

•  Incentives for investments in projects of energy efficiency;

•  Promoting environmental performance through ecolabel;

•  Tourism of Portugal Prizes for environmental sustainability.


REDUCE IMPACTS ON BIODIVERSITY

•  Enhancement of the natural heritage;

•  Nature tourism.


APPROPRIATE LAND MANAGEMENT PLANNING •  There has been a participation of several different public organizations to define the National Programme for the Territory at a National level, but also at a regional level in order to ensure and promote preservation of the natural and cultural values.


5. SOCIAL IMPACT OF SECTOR

•  Tourism has an important social impact by the stimulus that can make to development through local and regional job creation and distribution of wealth.

•  Tourism also should create conditions that enable all citizens to access and use the touristic offer.

BOOST LOCAL DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGE IMPACTS ON COMMUNITIES •  Stimulate local economic development – Small entrepreneurship is from all activities the one that most directly impacts communities, as well as an economic instrument, is also a force of cohesion and social and human development factor.


PROMOTE ACCESSIBLE TOURISM

•  Promote accessible tourism –  Initiative “Praia Acessível – Praia para Todos”

(Acessible Beach – Beach for everyone).
