Savanna

The Lord of the SaltIn the development of their culture, our forefathers the Muiscas, ruled by the Chief Zipa, they took the sa l t tha t was f lowing f rom hundreds of salty sources, that mixed with water formed those creeks; with the heat, the water evaporated and hillocks of white salt appeared. During the colony, the Spaniards exploited the salt by means of indigenous labour and then advised by Alejandro Von Humboldt, the mining of the salt begins by excavating tunnels inside the big dome of Zipaquirá

As time goes by, the faith of the miner s inc reased and they proposed to construct inside the mine, a Cathedral, a temple devoted to the Virgin. This way, the cathedral is the purest expression of religious faith in the deepest of the ground.

Take the risk in the “Route of the Miner ". For this attraction, visitors have to wear helmet, batteries and

gloves. What an experience!

CathedralA masterpiece of the Colombian architecture and engineering. In 1954, the first cathedral was inaugurated; nowadays it is the first marvel of Colombia and one of the principal tourist destinations of the region.

ZipaquiráOne of the most ancient cities of Colombia surrounded with colonial style houses and a beautiful principal square with the longest balconies of the country.

CULTURE

VILLA DE LEYVA

From prehistory to Colonial times115 million years and a great resemblance to a former Australian inhabitant frame the experience of re tu rn ing to an e ra where ictosaurus the cronosaurus and an inland sea, are the authors of this story.

We are not talking about "Jurassic Park" or any other Hollywood blockbuster. Just three hours from Bogota, give yourself the pleasure of taking the olives from their bushes and dates of the palm while crossing a desert out of nowhere, live the Infiernito and an inner sanctuary that takes you from the Andean jungles and dwarfs forests

to the magnificent moorland. Eight glacial lakes give birth to Bachué and Iguaque, parents of the Muisca people. Finally, in the shadow of its balconies, arches and gates, the villa, the viceroys resting place, is an inspiration for poets and writers in the path of its c o b b l e s t o n e s t r e e t s o r i n contemplation of the majesty of the main square, unique in Latin America.

Villa de Leyva, the most famous colonial town in Colombia has plenty of romantic streets, craft shops and a variety of gourmet restaurants.

The Mud house

A masterpiece of pottery as big as a five (5) floor building. Bars, electricity

and windows are the only artificial items.

Horse RideWithout doubt it is the best way to discover the tourist attractions near Villa de Leyva: Pozos Azules (Blue wells) and the Fossil, Infiernito (an Indian astronomical observatory).

"In the Savannah, an Indian can afford for his meals all kind of products only be possible for the most powerful Russian tycoons at the expense of huge amounts and yet more complete"( in Bogota foreign travelers of the nineteenth century).

This tour will take us a world of flavors, textures and colors. We will visit two of the main market places in town to taste a wide variety of fruits, many of them unique to Colombia and to learn more about our rich agr icu l tura l Product range as vegetables, herbs and flowers.

Halita beats for the world from the bowels of the earth, at 80 meters deep. This huge heart shaped salt crystal is considered by local people as the jewel of their mine. It o p e n e d t o t o u r i s m activities since January, 2005.

We invite you to visit the oldest exploitation Salt Mine in South America in the magical town of Nemocón, a newly discovered treasure for many Colombians,

most of them arriving – shame of you - by reference. Perhaps the p e r c e p t i o n o f t h e d e p t h s (nonexistent) produced by the camera mirrors of the 28 natural brine (salt and water wells), with crystals of salt and artificial lights in ceilings and walls or may be the salty cascade or formations like snowflakes, or maybe the dark caves where concerts and art exhibitions take place, the fact is that touring this other wonder of nature leads us to experience surrealist feelings.

Indian Water RouteOur routes are developed in areas of little traffic but of great beauty and ecological value in the region surrounding Bogota. We look for old paths, creeks, and roads in the countryside and where you feel you are one of the fewest passing through there.

Among green landscapes that stretch as patchwork quilts, the proposal is daring to stare at legends that speak of waterfalls, rocks and mysteries that took root in the mythology of the region. We propose to go into the legends that

have merged over time and formed on the Eastern road coming from Bogota, tracing the Cordillera Oriental of the Andes.

The most spectacular waterfall in a mountain will be the reward for a healthy walk. After lunch we will visit the home of hundreds of butterflies, spectacular tropical plants and flowers in order to show you our great ecological variety.

Bogotá in brick color tonesRogelio Salmona is the mode r n be s t - k nown Colombian architect. For 10 years, he worked for Le Corbusier in Paris. Salmona’s work is the spine of the Colombian architecture. The works bequeathed by architect Rogelio Salmona are an additional tourist attraction as much by the quality of their buildings and urban spaces as by their documentary value in the urban development of Bogota.

Rogelio Salmona’s master work in addition to its meaning for the national architecture history, it is a

cultural product to be red in brick color tones, in lights and shades, as a point of reference of popular aesthetic, as an expression of collective memory and as an exploration of a personal speech of the urban universe. The work integration of architecture and urbanism to the subject of the Cultural Tourism in Bogotá, is an important step for the mixing of a model of management of the sustainable cultural patrimony, that participates in the economic dynamics of the city.
