Module Synopsis

This module involves the identification and analysis of rapid advances of Tourism in recent years. It seeks to provide an international outlook and assessment of issues relating to the development and growth of tourism worldwide. Approaches to the management of tourism flows will be analyzed and an analysis of sustainable tourism initiatives undertaken. Various approaches to the management of tourism will be analyzed and the role of the government will be discussed with reference to the tourism policy of India. Formal assessment will comprise an individual essay and final examination.

Outline Syllabus:

Students will become familiar with the various segments of the tourism industry, its scope, size, seasonality and tourism demand. Students will learn about the impacts of tourism with respect to social, cultural and environment and will become familiar with the sustainable tourism initiatives undertaken by various organizations. The understanding of the tourism industry will encourage students to explore the facets of the business in greater depth. Students will be introduced to the models of tourism development and the role of government and tourism organization with reference to tourism plans.

Learning StrategyLectures will develop theoretical and conceptual material. Seminars will be used to allow students to develop the material and consider case studies related to various organizations within the travel and tourism sector.
