the forested eastern and western slopes, with many clear streams and waterfalls. It

is also an important water catchment area, providing water to the Tana and Athi

River. The Park is surrounded by an indigenous forest which houses the famous

Kimathi Hideout/Mau Mau caves, which were used as a hide out for Mau Mau

fighters. The park is also home to most large mammals such as the endangered

with its vast array of wildlife as they frequent the banks of the river.

lions, cheetahs and the elusive leopard. Some animals are unique to this northern

Kenya Park; gravy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, kudus and gerenuk. The Ewaso Nyiro

River, the boundary with the neighboring buffalo spring s national reserve, is where

the elephant's buffalo and other animal's species gather for a drink. You will find the

scenic semiarid landscape quite dramatic. The reserve is located within the lands of

    the colorful semi-nomadic Samburu tribesmen.

Day 4: Samburu National Park- Mount Kenya

After breakfast, proceed south across the Equator to the luxurious Mt. Kenya Safari

Club. Enjoy its many facilities and scenic beauty.

    Mount Kenya Safari Club

The national park around Mt Kenya is very different from all others. For one thing,

the protected area only starts at a height of 3,300meters above sea level and

because of the rough mountain country is unsuitable for a motor safari. For another,

although many animals live here (e.g. Elephants, Buffaloes) you do not see many of

them except at the water hole by the "mountain lodge" where particularly at night

many animals can be observed. The unique vegetation and fantastic scenery attract

mountaineers and botanists who can plunge through mountain forests draped with

lianas, bamboo and fields of giant heather before coming to the Alpine moorland,

is also an ornithologists paradise and also a sanctuary for both black and white

rhino. Its pink-frosted shores and sky-mirrored waters also yield some of the most

evocatively beautiful photo images in Africa. The park offers an incredible 450different species of water, fish-eating, terrestrial and migratory birds including the

pelican, fish eagle, secretary bird, heron, egret, hammerkop and grebe. Established

As the day breaks, enjoy fantastic game viewing of the teeming wildlife that roams

the rolling grasslands. Dinner and overnight at Mara Serena Lodge/lodge of your

    choice.

In November 2006, the Maasai Mara was named as the New 7th wonder of the world

because of what experts termed as "the uniqueness of the area and the

preservation it provides to so many species living in harmony." It is understandable

because this annual migration is the greatest wildlife spectacle on earth. For a full

package of scenery, game and the ultimate bush experience, the Mara is the place

to be. The National Reserve was the shooting location for the film Out of Africa and

remains the location for the British Broadcasting Corporation's big cat wildlife

series. The resting place of the big five, the reserve's major attraction is the great

wildebeests and zebras migration from the Serengeti in Tanzania to the Mara. This

annual event happens between July and September and is the greatest show on

earth. These animals cross over to Kenya through the Mara River. You are bound to

see the pretentious crocodiles lazing away under the water only to dramatically

break out of their sleep and snap up the migrating wildebeests and zebra.

Dinner and overnight at Mara Serena Lodge/lodge of your choice
