Froome aiming for back-to-back victories

· Chris Froome is looking to repeat his 2013 winning campaign to become the first rider since Miguel Induráin (1991-1995) to win successive Tour de France editions.

· Froome can give Great Britain three victories in a row. The only nations to achieve this feat in the last 40 years are Spain (1991-1995 and 2006-2009) and France (1981-1985 and 1977-1979).

· Great Britain can surpass Netherlands and Switzerland and equal United States (3) on most Tour de France victories on sixth-most.

Contador hoping for third Tour victory

· Alberto Contador can win his third Tour de France after being victorious in 2007 and 2009. · Only seven riders have achieved this feat, with Miguel Induráin the last to do this (5, 1991-1995). · Contador won his last Tour de France in 2009 and can become the first rider in the post-WW II era

to win five years after his previous victory. Only Gino Bartali (1938 - 1948) and Philippe Thys (1914-1920) have achieved this feat.

· Contador has also won the Vuelta a España twice and the Giro d'Italia once and can become the sixth rider to win at least six Grand Tours.

Nibali hoping to complete Grand Tour set

· Vincenzo Nibali has won the Giro d'Italia (2013) and Vuelta a España (2010) and can become the sixth rider to win all three Grand Tours.

· The last to complete this set was Alberto Contador when he won the Vuelta in 2008. · The other riders who have achieved this feat are Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault, Jacques Anquetil

and Felice Gimondi.

Tour de France 2014 review

Stage 17

· Rafal Majka became the first rider to win a Tour de France stage while wearing polka dot jersey since Michael Rasmussen in stage 9 in 2005 (Mulhouse). This excludes leading the mountain classification and wearing yellow.

· This was the third stage win by a Tinkoff – Saxo rider this Tout. In 2010 this team won four stages: Andy Schleck (2) and Fabian Cancellara (2).

· Tinkoff - Saxo became the first team to win Back-to-back Tour stages with different riders (Majka & Rogers) since Movistar last year (Quintana & Costa).

· Vincenzo Nibali won his 15th yellow jersey, surpassing Gastone Nencini on fifth place all-time for Italian riders. · Since 1980 only Bernard Hinault and Lance Armstrong rode in the yellow jersey for more days in one Tour de

France than Vincenzo Nibali has now. Hinault led the GC in 20 stages in 1981 and 17 stages in 1985, Armstrong led the GC for 16 stages in 2005 but was later scratched from the results. Nibali surpassed Wiggins (2012) and Froome (2013) by winning his 15th yellow jersey in one edition today.

· Thibaut Pinot (3rd), Jean Christophe Péraud (4th), Romain Bardet (5th) and Pierre Rolland (10th) are all in the top-10 of the GC. The last time four French riders finished in the top-10 of the overall general classification in the Tour was in 1991. Charly Motet (4th), Luc Leblanc (5th), Laurent Fignon (6th) and Gérard Rué (10th).

· The last French rider to finish in the top three of the overall general classification is Richard Virenque in 1997. He finished second behind Jan Ullrich.
