Overview
The Transponder Tools section of the software allows the more advanced user to manually write
data onto the transponder. This may be done either as part of research into the world of
EEPROM/MCU modules or to manually create a key with a known set of data - needless to say that
most locksmiths won’t ever need to use this sort of function.
Please note that it is very easily to lock a transponder if you’re unsure as to what you are doing.
Using The Tools
To start using the tools, click on the option on the main menu:
Touchclone will ask you to insert the transponder you want to read or write. This software will then
load up the relevant tool.

ID46 Transponder Tools
This is the tool for custom reading and writing to an ID46 transponder. Clicking read will load in the
data from the transponder inserted into Touchclone:
Frequency: shows you the method of encoding used (this is equivalent to the language of the
transponder).
Mode: shows the method of authentication the transponder uses. If a value is used that Touchclone
doesn’t know or has been told about then this will read as locked as the software cannot tell the
difference.
On the left hand side of the screen you have the data to be written to or read from the transponder.
The Write buttons will allow you to write this data to the transponder using the authentication data
specified (please see section later).
Clicking on the Extended button will bring up the extended transponder information screen. Clicking
on the individual options will change the value in the first block. This can then be programmed to the
transponder by clicking on the Write button.

In order to specify the authentication data to be used when reading and writing, click on the
relevant Mode in the bottom right hand corner. This will then bring up the boxes where you can
enter your custom data. For Crypto mode there are 6 bytes of data to be entered and can be
reverted back to the default values by clicking the Default button.

The same can also be done in Password mode, where only 4 bytes need to be entered. Again, you
can revert back to the default values by clicking the Default button.

As well as writing, the transponder tool allows you to perform a challenge/response function against
the transponder. As the secret key cannot be read off, this allows you to see if the value has been
written or even if it matches another key.
To check if data has been written:
Step 1: Perform a challenge/response before writing, make a note of the response value.
Step 2: Click the bottom write button to write to the secret key page.
Step 3: Perform another challenge/response and compare the response values. You should find the
two values to be different.
If the two values match, then can either be because the write failed (locked page etc) or the new
data was the same as the data already on the key.
To compare the secret keys of two keys:
Step 1: Insert key 1 and perform a challenge/response against it. Note down the response value.
Step 2: Insert key 2 and perform a challenge/response against that one. Again note down the
response value.
Step 3: Compare the two response values. If they differ then the secret keys too are different.
Please note, that it is technically possible (although highly unlikely) for two different secret keys to
return with the response value for the same challenge. Repeating the challenge/response process
with a different value of challenge should be done when the user wants to make 100% the keys are
the same/different.
