In 2004 the Seventh-day Adventist Women’s Ministries in Zimbabwe began Prison Ministries. The project began at

Chikurubi Female Prison where the women assisted the prisoners by providing for the needs of the babies with mothers in prison.

In 2005 a group of women approached the Zimbabwe Prison Services Authorities about assisting in a new prison (Hwahwa Young Offenders) for young male offenders. After the first visit, the team agreed that the needs at this prison were far greater than at the female prison because several other organizations supported Chikurubi Female Prison.

Because of the difficult economic times in Zimbabwe, the rehabilitation programmes at Hwahwa were facing increased challenges.

The group decided to raise funds for various self-sustaining projects the prison wanted to start and to help obtain materials.

The scope became wider when the group suggested the introduction of Hope Channel and 3 Angels Broadcasting Network (3ABN) satellite programmes as one of the spiritual programmes.

The first installation was at the prison headquarters for the purpose of vetting the programmes. After these programmes were cleared, the WM team was able to officiate at the installation of Hope Channel and 3ABN at Hwahwa Young Offenders facility n May 18, 2007.

The women in Kolkatta still need your help and support. This group are heartfelt grateful to the donors who allow them to achieve this huge step. It has opened their eyes to see the WORD and the WORLD. The Light Centers are open doors to the community and an outreach ministry and only in heaven will we see the results. With your support, women like Mana Mali will be touched with hope. Hope to see the Word and the World. We pray that Almighty God will fulfill their desires and open doors for them. Are you ready to open a door?

-Veena Gayen, WM Director

After the success at Hwahwa, a list of ten (10) other prisons wanting these spiritual satellite channels were given to the women.

The WM continue to work with Hwahwa, assisting them with educational and spiritual programmes. The challenge is huge, the needs are greet. Only with the help from people like YOU, the courageous women in Zimbabwe can continue the work

The team are ready to work and YOU can help them to achieve their dream: to bring Hope and Future to the needs of the young generation.

They would like partners to support the programs to train the young offenders in educational, technical and agricultural skills, helping them to become independent and productive law-abiding citizens, capable of working for the betterment of their families, community and country.
