Time-of-Use Rate Structures ToU rates better align cost of generation with price for power

Higher “peak” rates when grid-wide demand is high Residential ToU rates becoming more popular

California pushing new PV owners to ToU rates ahead of others ToU rates create value proposition for solar+storage

Peak periods will increasingly correspond with low PV production Difference between peak and non-peak rates drives return for battery

Time of Use Response Considerations Cost of cycling battery

Initial installed cost Charge/discharge losses Parasitic losses (BMS, HVAC, etc.)

Peak vs. off-peak rates Is difference enough to pay for battery cycle cost?

Weekend & seasonal variation Is it worth cycling battery in winter?

PV production and timing Will PV array offset most loads during peak anyway? Are battery and array sized properly?

Programming for ToU ResponseFLEXtime Specify AC Input Mode based on time of day

Easier to program More options than on/off Can’t differentiate weekends

Will not override a grid Drop setting

Grid Use Timers Specify times to use or drop grid

Can be tedious to set up Options are Use or Drop grid Allows weekends to have different profile

Can override AC input mode Drop = inverter will not use grid regardless of AC Input mode Use = inverter will use grid as determined by AC input mode

Page 7: ToU set up training...0lqlpl]hv julg gudz e\ riivhwwlqj iurp edwwhulhv dqg 39 duud\ 8vhv julg zkhq ordg h[fhhgv dydlodeoh srzhu ru hqhuj\ %dwwhulhv f\foh wr uxq ordgv dqg ohdyh ´urrpµ

AC Input Modes AC Input Modes:

Determine how the inverter/charger uses the grid, battery and PV Dynamically change set points and related behavior Can be changed at any time, but only one at a time can be active

Modes relevant to grid-tied ToU operation Grid Tied Grid Zero Mini Grid Backup/UPS

Disabling the inverter’s charger will prevent battery charging from grid regardless of AC input mode

Page 8: ToU set up training...0lqlpl]hv julg gudz e\ riivhwwlqj iurp edwwhulhv dqg 39 duud\ 8vhv julg zkhq ordg h[fhhgv dydlodeoh srzhu ru hqhuj\ %dwwhulhv f\foh wr uxq ordgv dqg ohdyh ´urrpµ

Grid-Tied Mode Only mode that will export/sell power to grid

Based on battery voltage Intended for net metering with battery backup Offsets grid use based on load current draw and battery target voltage Batteries not discharged while grid is connected

5000 Watts

Page 9: ToU set up training...0lqlpl]hv julg gudz e\ riivhwwlqj iurp edwwhulhv dqg 39 duud\ 8vhv julg zkhq ordg h[fhhgv dydlodeoh srzhu ru hqhuj\ %dwwhulhv f\foh wr uxq ordgv dqg ohdyh ´urrpµ

GRID ZERO Mode Designed for self-consumption of PV

Draws ~1 A from grid to ensure no sell back Minimizes grid draw by offsetting from batteries and PV array

Uses grid when load exceeds available power or energy Batteries cycle to run loads and leave “room” for solar

Offset functionality based on input amps Grid remains connected but will not charge batteries

Page 10: ToU set up training...0lqlpl]hv julg gudz e\ riivhwwlqj iurp edwwhulhv dqg 39 duud\ 8vhv julg zkhq ordg h[fhhgv dydlodeoh srzhu ru hqhuj\ %dwwhulhv f\foh wr uxq ordgv dqg ohdyh ´urrpµ

MINI GRID Mode Designed to emulate off-grid operation

Switches over to grid when load exceeds inverter output Treats the grid like a backup generator

Runs full charge cycle from grid when batteries get low Mini Grid mode cannot be used with Grid Use Timers

Page 11: ToU set up training...0lqlpl]hv julg gudz e\ riivhwwlqj iurp edwwhulhv dqg 39 duud\ 8vhv julg zkhq ordg h[fhhgv dydlodeoh srzhu ru hqhuj\ %dwwhulhv f\foh wr uxq ordgv dqg ohdyh ´urrpµ

BACKUP & UPS Modes Designed for backup systems with limited or no PV

UPS mode has faster transfer time but much higher tare losses Only uses PV to charge batteries

No load or grid offset Will charge batteries from grid if PV is insufficient

Page 12: ToU set up training...0lqlpl]hv julg gudz e\ riivhwwlqj iurp edwwhulhv dqg 39 duud\ 8vhv julg zkhq ordg h[fhhgv dydlodeoh srzhu ru hqhuj\ %dwwhulhv f\foh wr uxq ordgv dqg ohdyh ´urrpµ

Cautions & Caveats Be sure the date and time are set correctly in the MATE3/3s

Even when programming in OPTICS, the MATE3s clock drives operation The MATE3s will not automatically switch to Daylight Savings Time (unless connected to OPTICS RE)

Grid Use Time cannot be used with all AC Input Modes HBX, Load Grid Transfer and Mini Grid modes conflict with this function

Setting up both Grid Use Timers and FLEXtime can generate faults and unpredictable behavior System will allow both to be active, but it can lead to conflicting commands to the inverter

Inverter will reconnect to grid if battery voltage falls below the Low Battery Cut-Out set point It will ignore Grid Use Time settings until battery voltage climbs to cut-in set point
