Love Runs the City sheds light on the issues most

important to our communities. Each year the 3 mile run/

walk target social issues with in the City of New Orleans.

This year with the amount of youth induced crime, Love

Runs the City will walk in peace and shed light on the

importance for the value of life and community involvement

for youth development. The homicide rate in New Orleans

is unnatural and unacceptable. Consequently, homicide

reduction among New Orleans’ youth is the top priority of

the City of New Orleans. Proceeds from event will benefit

Keep Your Stuff Safe!

Always check to make sure you are not parking on a parade route or in a no parking zone and do not block driveways, crosswalks, or fire hydrants. If you are parking in a parking lot ensure the person(s) collecting money are, in fact authorized to do so. If you are suspicious, park elsewhere. Lock your vehicle.

Never leave valuables visible inside of your vehicle. Secure any such items in the trunk.

Make a note of where you parked. In the event you are lost or need directions it makes it easier for the police to guide you back to your vehicle.

If you believe your vehicle has been towed call the Claiborne Auto Pound, located at 400 N.Claiborne Avenue @ (504) 565-7450 or (504) 565-7451.

Keep Your Children Safe:

Watch your children carefully and never leave them unattended. Make sure your child knows their name, phone number, and address. If they do not, write it down on a card or piece of paper, place it in their pocket and make sure they know to find a Police Officer and give them this information in the event they become separated from you or lost.

Do not let your children climb over or under the barricades. If your children are in ladders, remember they must be placed as many feet behind the street curb as the ladder is high.

Keep Yourself Safe: Avoid carrying/flashing large amounts of cash or wearing expensive or “flashy” jewelry. Both make you the target of professional thieves and pickpockets.

Never take drinks from someone you do not know. Be aware of your surroundings and have a plan in the event you are separated from others in your party/group. If you are visiting make sure you know the address and location of your hotel.

Drink alcohol responsibly.

Enjoy the Parade!

Remember the Neutral Ground (Median) is public property and it is illegal to “rope off” or barricade areas for private use.

Glass containers are prohibited on the Parade Route.

You may cross the street before and after the parade, at any break in the barricade, but remember to watch for traffic.

If you must cross the street during the parade, check with a Police Officer and they will tell you when or where it is safe to do so. Do not enter barricaded areas of the Parade route without checking with a Police Officer. Often these areas are barricaded for the safety of parade participants and attendees.

Do not place ladders, ice chests, chairs, or other items in intersections. These areas must be kept clear to allow emergency vehicles access to the parade route if needed.

Do not be offended if Police Officers assigned to the parade route are hesitant to retrieve beads or other items thrown from the floats. Doing so takes them away from their primary duty, which is to vigilantly monitor the crowd for potential problems and ensure your safety.
