Company Background & History
Pakistan Mobile Communications Limited, better known as Mobilink GSM.
Mobilink has 28.24 million customers by March 2010
Mobilink's Head office is located in Mobilink House, 1 A Kohistan Road, F-8 Markaz
Islamabad.
Mobilink started operations in 1994 as the first GSM cellular Mobile service in
Pakistan
Later it was sold to Orascom, an Egypt-based multi-national company.
Mobilink has already invested over US $3.3 billion in the country to date and
provides uninterrupted countrywide connectivity, unmatched customer services
and international roaming in over 140 countries.
which is why Mobilink covers you in 10,000+ cities and towns nationwide as well
as over 130 countries international roaming service. In other words, we speak your
language, everywhere.
The company directly employs over 4,000 people and has the largest distribution
network with 200,000 outlets across Pakistan. Mobilink is the only corporate
in Pakistan to issue a 'high-yield' bond worth US$ 250 mill ion in the
International Market and has portrayed a positive image of the country as
a secure destination for business activity.

Now in 2009-2010 its decreases from 60% to 36% due to tough competition.

SWOT analysis
SWOT analysis is a strategic planning method used to evaluate the strengths,
weakness, opportunit ies and threats involved in a project or

University in the 1960s and 1670s using data from Fortune 500 companies.

WEAKNESSES:
Mobilink is expensive in comparison to other networks.
Currently providing not good quality service because of changing their network
from900 MHz to 1800 MHzs
Fewer advertisements now days.

Most expensive telecom company both in call rates and SMSEngineering
department of Mobilink is not that well competent as compared to its new
competitors.
OPPORTUNITIES:
They should provide 3G network and provide internet package in prepaid.
Customer retention Side is weak due to expensive packages
Can expand its networks in the uncovered areas

THREATS:
Due to intense competition Mobilink is losing its market share and PTA policies
can effect their business.
New market players are coming in near future.
New companies can offer packages for corporate customers in better way.
Wireless local loop service providers too targeting areas which are less
developed.
Current price war may reach at a position where only brand names survive
Due to expensive quality of service now a days customers can shift to other
companies.
Employee retention is also issue because mobilink fired 1000 employees in
October 2008

Following are some suggestion for the organization that should be adapt by the
organization.
Establish Research and Development Department. Ensure Network quality. Focus on subscriber retention. Adaptation of value added services, especially towards e-commerce. Better customer incentive plan. Innovation in technology. Lower SMS rates to other networks.
