Torque Bench User Guide

1. INTRODUCTIONRead this manual completely before operating the Torque Bench, and keep it for future reference.

Follow all safety messages and specifications to prevent injury to the operator and bystanders, and damage to the Torque Bench.

1.1 SAFETY INFORMATION >Keep work area clean.

>Operators and bystanders must always wear safety goggles when the Torque Bench is in use.

>Wear a protective hair covering to contain long hair and prevent contact with moving parts.

>Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry while operating the Torque Bench as they can get caught in moving parts.

>Keep your body away from moving parts.

>Flying particles can discharge when applying torque.

>Before operating the Torque Bench, check for obstacles near your hand, and anticipate the reaction force by gripping the handle firmly.

>Ensure the sensor is mounted securely using the provided screws, which should be fastened to the specifed tightening torque.

>Ensure that all components, including adaptors, extension drivers, and sockets, are rated to match or exceed the torque or load being applied.

>Do not use chipped, cracked, or damaged sockets or accessories.

>While using ratchets, ensure that the direction is fully engaged in the correct position.

1.2 APPLICABLE SKU

The J657B Torque Bench is compatible with the following Torque Sensors: J657-735, J657-295, J657-36, J657-22. For more information on these sensors, see Torque Sensor User Guide, doc# 0980-Torque_Sensor-999.

1.3 CAPACITY

Torque wrench capacity is up to 735 ft-lb (1000 N·m).

4. INSTALLATION

4.1 SOFTWARE

Software requires a PC or tablet running Windows 7 or greater, with Adobe Acrobat Reader installed, and a spare USB port.

4.2 BENCH SETUP>Working temperature 64° F - 82° F, ±1° (18° C - 28° C, ±1°).

>Ensure that the work area is clear, stable and fl at.

>Level the Torque Bench by adjusting the leveling feet.

>Bench is heavy, ensure adequate support in place when lifting to prevent against damage and injury.

4.3 SENSOR INSTALLATION>Check the capacity of the torque wrench to be tested.

>Connect the sensors at least 10 minutes before use to allow the temperature to stabilize.

>Choose the proper sensor or adaptor, and ensure that all screws fastened to the specifi ed tightening torque.

>Position the sensors, ensuring that they are always facing the same direction.

5. OPERATION1. Choose a Torque Sensor above the capacity of the wrench (e.g. if the wrench

capacity is 36 ft-lb (50 N·m), then select a sensor with a capacity greater than that.

2. If required, use the correct square drive adapter to fit the wrench securely to the sensor.

3. Adjust the fixing bar horizontally so the bar midpoint is aligned with the calibration mark on the wrench handle. If the handle has no mark, place the bar at the midpoint of the grip.

4. Position the wrench in the direction of the arrow.5. Adjust the handle plate vertically so the wrench is held level horizontally,

within ±3°.6. Load the torque wrench horizontally for better accuracy (should be within 3°).

6. SERVICE, MAINTENANCE, AND STORAGE1. Ensure the equipment is clean, and don’t place objects on the bench. 2. Over-torquing (110% of maximum torque range) could cause breakage. 3. Do not use impact or impulse tools with this equipment.4. Ensure all component parts are connected properly before use.5. Solvents may cause damage to the surface or internals. Clean only with a damp

cloth when required.6. Do not attempt to disassemble or repair the Torque Bench as it could damage

the machine.7. This product is not user serviceable. For service or repair please contact

7. LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY

7.1 WARRANTY

Except as specified below, PROTO® Industrial Tools, a business unit of Stanley Black & Decker, Inc. (“PROTO®”), warrants any of its PROTO® branded products, including products sold by PROTO® Industrial Tools that are marketed as products “by PROTO®”, for the useful life of the product against defects in material or workmanship.

Die Grinders, Torque Wrenches, Torque Multipliers, and Torque Testers are warranted for one year, except for calibration which is warranted for ninety (90) days from date of purchase.

PROTO® Torque Wrenches can be repaired and recalibrated for a nominal charge at the PROTO® Authorized Repair Center, which is located at 2195 East View Parkway, Suite 103, Conyers, GA, 30013, or any other such location as may be designated by PROTO®.

Defects in material or workmanship will be repaired or replaced at no cost. All other repairs will be at a nominal charge. Torque products are precise measuring devices that require care in handling. PROTO® recommends that all torque wrenches be recalibrated once a year or more, depending on usage.

7.2 DISCLAIMERS AND LIMITATIONS

This lifetime warranty is subject to the disclaimers and limitations described below, and is in lieu of all other warranties, express or implied, including the implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.

This lifetime warranty gives you specific legal rights. You may also have other rights that vary by state.

This lifetime warranty does not extend to products that have been improperly used, altered, or repaired by any entity other than PROTO®.

This lifetime warranty does not cover the following categories of products: universal sockets, universal joints, thin-wall impact sockets, adapters, and retaining rings.

This lifetime warranty does not cover damage due to ordinary wear and tear.

This lifetime warranty does not extend to any claim for incidental, consequential, or special damages. Some states do not allow the exclusion of limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so this exclusion may not apply to you.

Distributors of record must act as a return agent.

The exclusive remedy under this Lifetime Warranty for products determined to be deficient in materials or workmanship by PROTO® is repair or replacement with a reconditioned tool of equal value by PROTO®.

The selected remedy is at the sole discretion of PROTO®. In no event shall PROTO® be responsible for more than the original purchase price of the product.

>Ne pas utiliser des accessoires ou des prises ébréchés, craqués ou endommagés.

11. INSTALLATION

11.1 LOGICIEL

Le logiciel nécessite un ordinateur ou une tablette fonctionnant avec Windows 7 ou une version ultérieure, ayant Adobe Acrobat Reader installé et un port USB libre.

11.2 RÉGLAGE DU BANC>Température de fonctionnement 18°C - 28°C, ±1° (64°F - 82°F, ±1°)

>Assurez-vous que l’aire de travail est dégagée, stable et plate.

>Mettez à niveau le banc de couple en ajustant les pieds de mise à niveau.

>Le banc est lourd, assurez-vous d’avoir un bon soutien en place lorsque vous le levez afi n de prévenir les dommages et les blessures.

11.3 INSTALLATION DES CAPTEURS>Vérifi ez la capacité de la clé dynamométrique à être testée.

>Connectez les capteurs au moins 10 minutes avant l’utilisation afi n permettre à la température de se stabiliser.

>Choisissez le capteur ou l’adaptateur approprié et assurez-vous que toutes les vis ont été fi xées au couple de serrage indiqué.

>Placez les capteurs en vous assurant qu’ils font toujours face à la même direction.

12. FONCTIONNEMENT1. Choisissez un couplemètre supérieur à la capacité de la clé (par ex., si la

capacité de la clé est de 36 pi-lb (50 N·m)), puis sélectionnez un capteur ayant une capacité supérieure à celle-ci.

18. INSTALACIÓN

18.1 SOFTWARE>El software requiere una PC o tableta con Windows 7 o superior, con Adobe Acrobat

22. INTRODUÇÃOLeia completamente este manual antes de operar a bancada dinamométrica e guarde-o para consulta posterior. Respeite todas as mensagens e especificações de segurança para prevenir lesões corporais nos operadores e observadores, além de danos à bancada dinamométrica.

22.1 INFORMAÇÕES DE SEGURANÇA >Mantenha limpa a área de trabalho.

>Os operadores e observadores têm de usar sempre óculos de segurança quando a bancada dinamométrica estiver em uso.

>Use uma cobertura de proteção para cabelos longos para evitar que eles entrem em contato com peças móveis.

>Não use joias ou roupas largas ao operar a bancada dinamométrica, pois elas podem ficar presas nas peças móveis.

>Mantenha o corpo distante das peças móveis.

>Partículas suspensas no ar podem soltar descargas ao aplicar o torque.

>Antes de operar a bancada dinamométrica, verifique se há obstáculos próximos a sua mão e previna uma reação inesperada segurando firmemente a alça.

>Assegure que o sensor esteja montado de modo seguro, instalando parafusos fixados ao torque de aperto.

>Assegure que todos os componentes, incluindo adaptadores, unidades de extensão e soquetes, tenham uma classificação apropriada para igualar ou exceder o torque ou a carga a ser aplicada.

25. INSTALAÇÃO

25.1 SOFTWARE

O software requer um PC ou tablet com sistema operacional Windows 7 ou superior, com Adobe Acrobat Reader instalado, e uma entrada USB disponível.

25.2 CONFIGURAÇÃO DA BANCADA>Temperatura operacional de 64° F - 82° F, ±1° (18° C - 28° C, ±1°).

>Assegure que a área de trabalho esteja limpa, estável e plana.

>Nivele a bancada de torque ajustando os pés de nivelamento.

>Se o bancada for pesada, tenha uma suporte adequado no local ao realizar elevações para prevenir danos e lesões corporais.

25.3 INSTALAÇÃO DO SENSOR>Verifi que a capacidade do torquímetro a ser testado.

>Conecte os sensores no mínimo 10 minutos antes do uso para que a temperatura possa se estabilizar.

>Escolha o sensor ou o adaptador apropriado, e certifi que-se de que todos os parafusos estejam fi xados a um torque de aperto específi co.

>Posicione os sensores de modo que eles estejam sempre virados para a mesma direção.

26. OPERAÇÃO1. Escolha um sensor de torque acima da capacidade do torquímetro (por

exemplo, se a capacidade do torquímetro for de 36 ft-lb (50 N·m), então selecione um sensor com uma capacidade superior a essa.

2. Se necessário, use o adaptador de unidade quadrada correto para ajustar com segurança o torquímetro ao sensor.

3. Ajuste a barra de fixação de modo que o ponto central da barra esteja alinhado com a marcação de calibração na alça do torquímetro. Se a alça não tiver nenhuma marcação, posicione a barra no ponto central do punho.
