A tornado is a weather event where swirling air forms a funnel cloud extending from the sky to the ground. It forms when warm, wet air rushes up to meet cold, dry air. Strong winds blowing across the rising air cause it to spin. Tornados can whirl at speeds of up to 300 miles per hour! Most tornados last just a few minutes, but can leave a wide path of destruction.
