2016

On Saturday October 15th, the now “Annual”

Oktoberfest was held with 40 members and their guests being entertained by the Oompah band

formed by members of the Kibworth Brass Band ably led by their compare and games master

Richard Orme. (Hans Clapper) The evening started with a 3 course meal

of fresh vegetable soup and bread followed by schnitzel, potatoes sauerkraut, sauce and salad garnish and a dessert of Apfelstrudel and cream, this was then washed down with several glasses of Schnapps (Apfelkorn, Wild Berry, and Korn). As everyone was eating the band played a selection

of German Bierkeller music, then once the eating stopped it was merriment time and soon everyone was swaying to the music, standing up, sitting down, looking left looking right etc., in line with directions from the Band compare, then it was time for some “silly” games where prizes could

be won by following the compare’s instructions especially if you didn’t mind being made to look silly or embarrassed in the nicest possible sense!! Then it was back to the music with the band playing songs that people could sing along to and more importantly do the actions to – finishing up with a rousing version of “The Musicman” he Dambusters section being particularly rousing. A good time was had by all; thanks go to the band for the music and games and to all the members who attended this function.

Gemma Skydives for Wings

Gemma Fare took part in a tandem skydive in aid of RAFA’s Wing’s Appeal on August 30th.

Gemma said “ I have grown up in a RAF family, where both my parents served in the RAF for over 20 years and are now both working for RAFA the charity that supports the RAF families. I would like to raise money to help and support families like mine, who are either still serving or have served in the RAF, I believe they do a fantastic job for our country and would like to give them something in return.” If you would like to support Gemma for a very worthy cause you still can by visiting her donating page at https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/gemmafare
