Welcome to the Drug Aware Torchlight Youth Film Festival!
This booklet contains everything you'll need to know about the program. Whether you're just starting out or consider yourself a pro, we'd love to see whatyou have to offer. The only restrictions on your film are that you have to fit thetheme, be under 15 minutes and conform to a PG rating. Everything else it up to
you! Show us your creativity and showcase your artistic flare.There will also be a few skill building workshop days to look out for, as well as the
final screening night!
This event is run by the City of Kalamunda Youth Services, and is only possiblethrough the support and funding from the Drug Aware YCulture grant, Propel
Youth Arts and Healthway.

There will be two age categories: 14 and Under & 15 - 25
Films can be submitted from an individual or a group.
Either the individual or one member from the team MUST live,work or study within the City of Kalamunda.

DEFINITION OF CULTURE:The set of shared attitudes, values,goals, and practices thatcharacterises an institution,organisation or social group.

The film must be 15 minutes or under (credits are to be included within this
time limit)
The film must fit/follow the theme 'Exploring Culture'
Anyone who appears in the film that can be identified must complete a photo
consent form (see forms attached to web page)
The applicant must submit a piece of writing explaining the story line of the
film and how it fits the theme. Explanations cannot exceed 500 words
The film must adhere to a PG rating (see next page for more information)
One person working on the film must either live, work or study within the cities
boundaries. Evidence of their status must be provided (see next page)
The film must include at least one Kalamunda landmark as stated on the list
provided (see next page).
The film will be judged on its creativity. This will include how the story line is
portrayed based on your written explanation, film construction, visual
aesthetic how you incorporate the theme and landmarks. You will not be
judged based on the quality of the equipment used (smartphone films are
accepted)

PG Rating Definition:
Mild impact Violence should be mild and infrequent, and be justified by context.Sexual violence is not permitted.Sexual activity should be minimal and if included, be mild, discreetlyimplied and be justified by context.Coarse language should be mild and infrequent, and be justified bycontext. No swearing.Sex, nudity, smoking, drug references and drug use are not permitted.

There will be two filming days where an industry professional will teach you thetricks of the trade and let you use their equipment to do some filming. The groupwill be transported to two different locations in the City of Kalamunda to get a
variety of shots. This footage will be used to create a short film that will be shownat the final screening night! Use the skills you learn on these days to help shape
your own short film for the competition!

SCREEN ING N IGHT
The screening night is set to be huge! This night will provide the ultimate cinematic experience, making you feel like a
professional film maker.
Opening the event will be a local film maker that will showcase their short filmand chat about their experience entering the industry. Then the short film made by
as a result of the two day filming workshops will be shown!
Then, all of your amazing short films will make their way onto the big screen.
Finally, the awards ceremony and congratulations to all participants.

Upload your film to YouTube (can be listed as public or
hidden so only we can see it) and email us the video URL.
See the link on our Facebook Event Page 'Drug AwareTorchlight Youth Film Festival' for a video explanation on
how to upload to YouTube if you need some help.
When sending us the link, make sure you also submit acompleted application form which can be downloadedfrom the website. Plus, add in any photo consent forms
for people in your film (see next page or on website)
