THE LION’S DEN Orange High School’s Newsletter Summer 2016 Message from the Principal - Paul Lucas, Ed.D. It’s always a bittersweet time of year; saying goodbye to a really great group of students is tough, but it’s so nice to see the summer finally arrive in Cleveland. Congratulations to the OHS Class of 2016, you will be missed! They have accomplished a great deal over their 4 years at OHS, and I’m sure I’ll be hearing many great things about them in the near future. Many improvements to the infrastructure at Orange High School have been made in recent sum- mers, so this summer should be a relatively quiet one. The only noticeable facility update is a much-needed facelift to the lecture hall. The lecture hall will be modernized with new flooring, tables, lighting covers and projection capabilities. I know this will be a great improvement to the learning environment at OHS. Thank you to the parents, students, teachers and staff, Board of Education, and the Orange commu- nities for the support in another successful school year. I hope everyone has a restful and relaxing summer vacation and I look forward to an exciting 2016/2017 school year! Paul M. Lucas, Ed.D. Sep tember /Octobe r 2012 Newsletter Date

Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year! Each year the staff and administration try to offer new opportunities for the students of Orange High School. Due to the long-term success of the OHS Robotics program, it is now being offered to all students as an elective. Also offered for the first time this school year is AP Psychology, which has an incredible enrollment of 81!

Last year I traveled to Denmark in order to establish a partnership with a high school in Herning, Denmark. In October, OHS will welcome 27 students and 2 teachers from Denmark for a weeklong experience. In April, over two dozen OHS students and 3 staff members will travel to Denmark for a reciprocal experience. This 3-year partnership is the first in what I hope becomes an extensive international program for the students at Orange High School. I was recently selected by the College Board to participate in a trip to China in order to learn more about the Chinese education system. Additionally I will have the opportunity to try and establish partner schools for a possible student/teacher exchange program for the coming years.

Along with new opportunities in curriculum and instruction, the new school year brings new staff members. This year Orange welcomes the following staff to the Orange family:

William Derrick – Mathematics Ciara Mastin – English

Jeremy Ondo – Foreign Language Frank Peters – Science

Jean Vargo – Administrative Assistant to the Principal

Again, welcome to the 2012 – 2013 school year. I am always happy to talk and/or meet with you at any time to discuss your child, the educational programs at Orange High School, or anything else you might need. I look forward to another great year and please stay in contact with your child’s teachers, as well as the administra-tion and guidance staff.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL - Paul Lucas, Ed.D.

Congratulations to the graduating class of 2016! May the path ahead be filled with much success and happiness!

As I prepare for the year ahead, I am very thankful to Susie Blake, for all of her time and dedication as President over the past two years. She has worked tirelessly to build community and stronger support for our students. Thank you Susie, for all you have done for PTA and the Orange Schools. We are all truly grateful for your leadership and guidance.

While we are all looking forward to a more relaxed schedule over the summer, PTA will be busy working to prepare for the new school year.

Watch for the new format of the Lions Roar Directory, available this fall. If you have not completed the google survey form to provide your families’ information please go to orangeschools/OHSPTA.aspx. This is extremely important if you want to be included in the Directory! We are also seeking advertisers for the Lions Roar Directory. This is an important fundraiser for PTA and is used by many in the community!

Watch for new spirit wear items in the fall! Support PTA and show your school spirit!

Become a member of OHS PTA and if you are able, please volunteer your time! Membership information is available in this issue and online at the OHS PTA website. New this year - use PayPal to pay your membership dues! Your donation of any amount enables PTA to give back to the school in a variety of ways. Last year over $38,000 was given back to our school and students.

Our first PTA meeting of the new school year will be September 7th in the media center at OHS! Paul Lucas, OHS Principal, and Jennifer Cohen, Board of Ed. member, will give a brief update at 9 am, with the general PTA meeting to follow.

Enjoy your summer and see all of you in August! Thank YouLaura Kochis

Junior & Senior Parents… The After Prom Countdown Has Begun!

Less Than 100 Days to Go… Can We Count On You to Help?

What Goes On At After Prom… Located near the Prom venue, this year’s 2016 After Prom takes place on April 16th at The Corner Alley in Midtown. The event is a 40-year tradition that keeps students safe following Prom and provides memorable fun for all involved. A $20 ticket to the event includes transportation to/from the venue, bowling, a DJ, entertainment, and food and beverages. But we can’t make this a reality without your contributions! Why We Need Donations… The Orange High School After Prom event is 100% funded by donations from families and community businesses. Thanks to significant support each year, ticket prices to this event have stayed at $20 per student – only 25% of the actual event costs! We need your help again to ensure this event is accessible and affordable to all juniors and seniors and their guests – whether they choose to go to Prom or not. How to Donate… You can either send a check or pay online. To send a check, complete the form below, or to pay online, go to www.orangeschools.org/AfterProm and follow the link to donate online. Please contact the After Prom Co-chairs, Donell Newman ([email protected]) or Karen Swift ([email protected]) if you have questions or need additional information. Thank You! Thank you to all of you who have taken part in our fundraising efforts to date. For their generous donations and gifts to this year’s After Prom activities, we’d like to specifically recognize the following companies and families who have already supported this 40-year OHS tradition.

Can we add you to this list?

Can we add you to this list?
