Avoid cliché – limit the use of “passionate” and also “from a very early age I’ve always loved media…….” 3. Complete a few drafts and take plenty of time to complete it; proof read a number of times. 4. Be careful with humour and quotes. 5. Do not copy. 6. Show elements of critical thinking. 7. Do not start every sentence with “I”. 8. Avoid using italics or bold. 9. Include independent study and projects completed outside of college. 10. Keep information relevant and positive. 11. Include what you have learned. 12. Explain what you can contribute to the course/industry. 13. Clear layout/paragraphing. 14. Include specific examples of inspiration/influences. 15. Include what you want to learn in HE.
