TOP 10 MISTAKESParents Make in Parenting.
and YES, you are NOT ALONE.
The good news is, they’re correctable.
#1 Skipping Explanation
Many parents thought that their
kids do not understand if they
explain. The truth is, even before
they understand words, they
already understand by looking at
the facial expression and voice
tone.
#2 Lie Lie Lie
Tell the truth, no matter what! If
you don’t have the money to buy
the toy that they want, just tell
them. Don’t lie by saying, “This
shop doesn’t sell that” or “It’s just
meant for display”. The fact is, you
can’t lie to them forever!
#3 Let them misbehave
because you don’t want
them screaming in public
Sometimes, you just have to let
them scream in public so that they
know that you mean it. Losing to
them over screaming just make
them in control even more.
#4 Not Being Consistent
Don’t just give in just because you
are tired to babysit. If they can’t
watch tv after 8pm, you just can’t let
them watch at 8pm even during the
days when you are just tired and
hoping the tv will let them quiet for a
while. Be consistent!
#5 Expecting Others to
Discipline your Kids
It just doesn’t work that way. Other people just can’t do it for you. Your kids will definitely behave when the person who discipline them is around. But when you are in charged, they won’t! That, you just have to believe!
#6 Overusing Punishment
Use reward instead. They will feel
motivated to behave. Punishment,
sometimes, can be the reason for
them to misbehave just because
they know you will pay attention to
them when they misbehave.
#7 Ignoring When They Call
Even when you are talking to your
friends, do answer when they call
because they will be louder and
louder because for them, you are
everything. If you have to, explain
that you are talking to your friend
and you will talk to them later.
#8 Shoving Them Off
Shoving your kids away just make
them feel unimportant. Sometimes
what they say means so much to
them even if it’s just a little piece of
paper. Let them know how
important they are by listening to
what is important to them.
#9 Threatening will make it
worseSome parents will just threat with
something that they can’t even
do. Ridiculous punishment like “If
you don’t behave, I will just leave
you at the shop” will certainly
affect your credibility as a
disciplinarian.
#10 Showing your Love is
not a Bad ThingSometimes parents think that comforting them, holding and hugging them will spoil them. Love can never spoil anyone. Affection can be felt if shown through touching and holding. A simple wipe on their tear means more than just drying the tear up. It may mean that you are making the pain go away.
