What is New Relic?

• Full stack monitoring tool

– Why full stack?

• Monitor Application back-end and front-end operations

• Monitor Services

• Monitor Hardware

Downside?

• Offsite storage and sending data

• Sometimes the UX can be frustrating

• It aggregrates data in charts

• Documentation is really good

Pros?

• It’s a one-stop-shop to monitor your apps

• A help to pin point problems

• Provides a better view of the bottlenecks

• Integration frontend/backend

Backend Monitoring

• It’s a deamon to install

• You may want to configure the waytransactions will appear in the transaction list

• GN knows how to install

– Just send a ticket

Frontend• Need to call 2 php functions that will output JS into

your page

• Can’t manually add the JS

• Frontend data is sent directly to New Relic = no loadincrease on our servers

• I haven’t noticed a performance decrease on the frontend

• CMS: hascomponents for New Relic

NEW - Plugins

• Can track other parts of your infrastructure

– DB

– Memcache

– Nginx/apache

• Oh! Did I mention DOCUMENTATION IS AWESOME?!

• Need to install the plugins to know what they do

• Some plugins require « Devs system package»
