Tonsillitisinflammation or swelling of the tonsils.
• Adenoids-sits in the back of the nasal cavity and are above the roof of the mouth.
• lingual tonsils- located on the dorsal surface at the base of the tongue
• palatine tonsils- small mass of lymphoid tissue between the pillars of the fauces on either side of the pharynx.

THE CAUSETonsillitis is caused by a virus or bacteria and can pass through the air when an infected person breathes, coughs, or sneezes.
Home Treatments• Gargling with warm salt
water several times a day• Taking over-the-counter pain
medicines like ibuprofen• Use vaporizer• Drink warm liquids
Surgical Treatments• Tonsillectomy- the
surgery to remove tonsils
• Penicillin is used to fight bacteria in your body.
• In mild cases of tonsillitis take ibuprofen or tylenol for inflammation

Symptoms• Fever• Bad breath• Nasal congestion and runny nose• Swollen lymph nodes• Red, swollen tonsils covered
completely or in patches by pus• Difficulty swallowing• Headache• Abdominal pain• Raw, bleeding patches on the
tonsils

Recovery • Pain is most often in the throat, but it may also be located in the ears, jaw or neck.
