Rio De Janeiro is the capital city of the State

of Rio De Janeiro , the second largest city of

Brazil,6th largest in America , and 26th in the

world. It was capital city of Brazil for two

centuries , from 1763. to 1815.,and form

1815. to 1821. it was the capital city of the

United Kingdom of Portugal , Brazil and

Algarve.

Attractions

Rio De Janeiro’s biggest attraction is carnival , that is held before Lent every year. It is a street carnival, and it involves samba dancers, bird shows, fireworks… Another thing tourists can see in Rio is the famous Statue of Christ (Christ the Redeemer). It is the 5th largest statue of Christ in the world, with its 30.1 meters. Statue’s weight is 635 tones.

Olympic Games

The 2016 Summer Olympics and

the Paralympics will take place in Rio de Janeiro, which will mark the first time a South American

or a Portuguese-speaking nation hosts the event. It will be the third time the Olympics

will be held in a Southern Hemisphere city, and it will mean Australia will no longer be the only Southern Hemisphere

country to have hosted the Olympics.
