Staff Changes This week we welcomed Miss Sheri- Lee Marlin onto St1A, while Ms Donna Abraham is on leave. Miss Marlin will be

on the class until the end of term. Mr Gary Hughes will be the relieving Stage 1 Assistant Principal during this time.

Tomaree’s Totally Terrific Absolutely Awesome Day What an amazing day we had. Despite the weather, staff, students and families enthusiastically participated in our

events. The Blokes’ Barbecue was a great way to start the day and the scones, jam and cream at the Parents’

Morning Tea were certainly a hit. It was great to see both staff and students dressed up for the Book Parade. Our

Recycled Racers Race Off was very exciting with the course having to be lengthened in order to determine the

winning school team. Reading Rampage at the end of the day was a wonderful way to finish the day with teachers

reading their favourite books to students. Many thanks to the staff for all their hard work and enthusiasm, to the

students for their participation and exemplary behaviour and to the families who came along to celebrate this day

with us.

Recycled Racers A week of design and construction using recycled items such as water bottles, boxes, CDs, bottle tops and lids

resulted in the most amazing Recycled Racer creations. From planning, making, testing and modifying, students

came up with their final racer for their class race off. Finalists then brought their creations to the hall for their stage

race offs. Some of the racers went so far that the course had to be modified so that their final length could be

measured. It was wonderful to see students so enthusiastic about this STEM challenge and some were even

discussing what they would use for their racer next year. Our stage winners were:

Kindergarten: KH Willow Bragg, Deikirie Mayer and Casey Benson

Stage 1: St1B Dimatae Mayer, Harper Green, Marley Bunny and Ava Lobley

Stage 2: St2C Ruby Caslick and Madison Lane

Stage 3: Aiden Rosenberg, Cohen Northwood, Jonty Bunny and Joshua Mitchell.

Stage 2 Camp On Wednesday, over 80 very excited Stage 2 students, staff and parent helpers boarded the bus for an overnight

excursion to Sydney. Students visited the Museum of Sydney, Elizabeth Farm and the State Library as well as a

walking tour of the Rocks to learn about the arrival of the First Fleet and colonial life. I look forward to learning

about their exciting adventures on their return.

Foreshore Primary Tennis Competition Last Friday, a team of students representing Tomaree Public School participated in the Foreshore Primary Tennis

Competition. Congratulations to Cruz McGrath, Amelia Whiteman-Law, Sebastian Munro and Cohen Northwood on

their win and on the great sportsmanship displayed throughout the competition. Well done!

Rugby League 2019 Rebels Cup Congratulations to all the boys who played rugby league in the 2019 Rebels Cup. Tomaree played four games, with

one loss, two draws and a win. All the boys played extremely well and should be very proud of their effort and their

team work. Thank you to Mr Hopper for organising this.

State Representatives Congratulations to Allana Assabgy and Will Hoffman who are representing the school at sport at a state level. Allana

Assagby competed in golf and Will Hoffman will compete in the long jump. Well done Allana on your achievement

and good luck to Will.

GALA Days There are two upcoming sports GALA days this term. This Friday, 13th September Mrs Donovan will be taking two

teams to represent Tomaree Public School at the PCYC Basketball GALA day. We wish them the best of luck.

The Ports Stephens Soccer GALA day is on Monday, 23rd September. Mr Hopper and Mrs Donovan will be taking

teams to represent our school.

Life Education The Life Education caravan is visiting our school in Weeks 1 and 2 of Term 4. Life Education provides students with

the opportunity to participate in a variety of programs that support the PD/ Health/PE curriculum. Notes were sent

out this week and are due back by Wednesday, 25th September.

Bike Education Program Thanks to the P and C and the Lions Club, students in Stage 3 will have the opportunity to participate in a Bike

Education program in Week 10 to coincide with Bike Education Week. Students will participate in a program focusing

on cycle education, road safety and bicycle skills which will be delivered by Rideability. The program has been fully

funded by the P and C and the Lions Club of Soldiers Point. Notes need to be returned by Tuesday, 17th September.

Bike and Scooter Racks Our scooter racks have been installed along the side of the hall and look fantastic. Scooters can now be parked safely

while students are at school.

The P and C are currently investigating new bike racks for the school to provide students with updated spaces to

store their bikes during school hours.

Teddy Bears’ Picnic On Thursday 19th September, teddy bears will be everywhere as we hold the Teddy Bears Picnic as part of our Kinder

Orientation program. Kindergarten students and pre-school visitors will participate in a range of teddy themed

activities, followed by a teddy pears picnic morning tea. I already have my teddy bear out of storage and ready for

the picnic.

Sporting news On Friday, Cruz McGrath, Amelia Whiteman-Law,

Sebastian Munro and Cohen Northwood represented TPS

at the annual Foreshore Primary Tennis Competition.

Playing with sportsmanship, skill, grit and determination,

they took out the win and brought home the trophy (one

that will surely fill the cabinet). Congratulations to the

team - you did Tomaree very proud!

Tournament of Minds (TOM) Jonty, Bianca, Ebony, Adison, Olive, Elisha and I travelled to Newcastle Grammar School to perform our challenge The

Wizard of Aus on the 31st of August. We had to make new characters, backdrops and more! We also did a short term,

spontaneous challenge that was given to us on the day. We didn’t go over time in both of the challenges and our whole

team did pretty well, unfortunately we did not place. TOM has been a great experience for our whole team.

P&C NEWS State Sport donation recipients This week the P&C were proud to present Allana Assabgy and Will Hoffman with a donation towards covering their expenses whilst representing the school at a state level in sport. Allana has just successfully completed her state golf competition where she finished with a fantastic result of 5th. Will’s competiton against the long jumpers will take place in November. Congratulations on your achievements! Stage 3 Bike Education program The school’s P&C are excited to be partnering with the Lions Club of Soldiers Point to fund a bike education program in which all Year 5 and 6 students will be provided with the opportunity to participate. The program will be run by a leading education provider for cycle education, road safety and bicycle skills, to coincide with Bike Education Week in Week 10. We can’t wait to see all the students arrive with their bikes and helmets! Flexischools ordering It’s great to see so many families now using Flexischools to order their child’s lunches each week. Have you joined? Flexischools is the canteen’s preferred method for ordering. With the ever-growing number of orders we receive, it is the most convenient and efficient way for the canteen to process orders. Orders can easily be placed online at any time of the day. Never again will you be caught without cash as you run out the door for school drop off. Students won’t be able to lose their lunch money and best of all, you can keep track of what food your children are ordering. The daily cut off time for ordering is 9am. Keep an eye on the canteen’s flexischools competition which will start in Term 4!

School Banking Congratulations to the following students who have recently received their silver award for 20 bank deposits this year. Jasmine Hodgson Jasmine Ferguson Ella Niddrie Bailey Tumbers The last P&C meeting of the term is Thursday night in the staff common room at 5pm. We’d love for you to join us. P&C Committee
