167 Shady Grove Church Road Winston Salem NC 27107 (336) 769-2942 www.shadygroveumc.com Friends, The summer of 2016 has been a great one at Shady Grove! Our attendance numbers are trending higher, our giving is trending higher, and, by the time you read this article, we should have a full staff. God is truly blessing the life and ministry of Shady Grove. The question we have to ask ourselves is this - How do we make sure we continue in this positive direction? The answer, while simple, requires effort. The answer is found in obedience. When God's people are obedient, God's blessings follow. That pattern can be seen in Scripture time and time again. Blessings follow obedience while disobedience re- sults in decrease. We want increase! In every aspect of Shady Grove, we want in- crease! Increase in our spiritual maturity! Increase in worship! Increase in the number of people who come to faith in Jesus! Increase in ministry and service inside the walls of the church and beyond in the community! Increase in joy! Increase in peace! Obedience is the gateway to increased blessings, and I'm proud of the obedience I see in the life of this church. As Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 9:10, "For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of gener- osity in you." God is additionally blessed by our generosity. Have you considered the fact that an invitation to experience the life and ministry of Shady Grove is a generous offer? Bring a friend who could use encouragement, a connection to new friends, hope and affirmation -- give them the gift of connection to Jesus! Nothing could be more generous! I'm looking forward to our Harvest Celebration after church on October 2nd. We'll unload the pumpkin truck, then enjoy music, games and a great BBQ lunch! Yet another example of the powerful fellowship we enjoy together -- We are Shady Grove! Peace, Tom This truly is a great family, and I'm proud to have the opportunity to serve you as your senior pastor. Christ Centered • Community Driven Shady Grove UMC October 2016

Friends,

The summer of 2016 has been a great one at Shady Grove!

Our attendance numbers are trending higher, our giving is trending higher, and, by

the time you read this article, we should have a full staff. God is truly blessing the

life and ministry of Shady Grove.

The question we have to ask ourselves is this - How do we make sure we continue

in this positive direction?

The answer, while simple, requires effort. The answer is found in obedience. When

God's people are obedient, God's blessings follow. That pattern can be seen in

Scripture time and time again. Blessings follow obedience while disobedience re-

sults in decrease. We want increase! In every aspect of Shady Grove, we want in-

crease!

Increase in our spiritual maturity! Increase in worship!

Increase in the number of people who come to faith in Jesus!

Increase in ministry and service inside the walls of the church and beyond in the

community!

Increase in joy!

Increase in peace!

Obedience is the gateway to increased blessings, and I'm proud of the obedience I

see in the life of this church. As Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 9:10, "For God is the

one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he

will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of gener-

osity in you." God is additionally blessed by our generosity.

Have you considered the fact that an invitation to experience the life and ministry

of Shady Grove is a generous offer? Bring a friend who could use encouragement, a

connection to new friends, hope and affirmation -- give them the gift of connection

to Jesus! Nothing could be more generous!

I'm looking forward to our Harvest Celebration after church on October 2nd. We'll

unload the pumpkin truck, then enjoy music, games and a great BBQ lunch! Yet

another example of the powerful fellowship we enjoy together -- We are Shady

Grove!

Peace,

Tom

This truly is a great family, and I'm proud to have the opportunity to serve you as

your senior pastor.

Harvest Festival

October 2nd

12:30 - 4:00 PM Join us for a church-wide celebration on Sunday,

October 2nd as we celebrate what God has done

and will do in the life of Shady Grove. Following

worship, we will begin with unloading pumpkins at

12:30 PM. Everyone from two years old to 100 who is able is asked to come help. Directly follow-

ing the unloading of the pumpkins, we will gather

at the picnic shelter for games, music and great bar-

beque. This is an event for the entire church fam-

ily! Bring your lawn chairs and listen to music,

play games, volleyball, corn hole, etc. Bring a side

dish, dessert, or ice cream for the meal to share. We will not have children and youth pro-

grams on this evening.

Thy Kingdom Come!

“Fund-raising is proclaiming what we believe in such a way that we offer other people an

opportunity to participate with us in our vision and mission.”

Henri Nowen

I recently heard the Song from Rend Collective, “Build Your Kingdom Here” and I thought of our Costa

Rica 2017 Mission trip with Rice and Beans Ministry. The lyrics are:

Come, set Your rule and reign, In our hearts again, Increase in us we pray, Unveil why we're made

Come, set our hearts ablaze with hope, Like wildfire in our very souls, Holy Spirit come invade us now

We are Your church, We need Your power in us, We seek Your kingdom first, We hunger and we thirst

Refuse to waste our lives, For You're our joy and prize, To see the captive hearts released, The hurt, the sick,

the poor at peace, We lay down our lives for Heaven's cause. We are Your church, We pray: revive this

earth, Build Your kingdom here.

This speaks to WHY we do what we do each year with Rice and Beans Ministry in Costa Rica. Please take

the opportunity to participate in what God is doing in the life of the Church throughout the world by joining

us on October 22nd for our Annual Craft Fair and Pancake and Sausage Breakfast 8:00 AM-1:00 PM.
