This month, you can help raise awareness for prostate and testicular cancer by participating in Movember. Movember is a movement that encourages men to grow out their facial hair throughout November in an effort to raise money and awareness for male reproductive cancers and mental health. Every hour, 60 men lose their lives to suicide. Prostate cancer is another leading cause of death for men, with 192,443 new cases of prostate cancer being reported in 2016 alone (CDC). Male reproductive cancers and mental health can be difficult subjects, but Movember gives us an opportunity to open up these conversations. In addition to being a perfect time to raise awareness for men’s health, November is also a great time to get your flu shot! You can get yours at Watkins Memorial Health Center by appointment, or on a walk-in basis. Social Justice Corner Jayhawk Buddy System Hello KU

Hola! My name is Kelly.

This month I’d like to bring awareness to

Native American Heritage Month! Tribes

such as the Kaw, Ioway, Kickapoo,

Potawatomi, and Na Me Ha Ha Ki tribes were

all located here in the Lawrence area prior to

the colonization of the United States. It’s

important that we recognize and honor the

traditions and history of the people that we

as a nation have forgotten due to our

ignorance and history of discrimination of

indigenous peoples. Here are a few tasks I

ask that KU students take upon themselves in

order to learn more about the Native

American history of Lawrence:

Visit the Haskell Museum/Cultural Center

DONATE to the Haskell Foundation

Visit Haskell Campus in general!

Go to a sporting or cultural event! Purchase and rep Haskell University

merch to show your support for the

University.

I encourage us all to do at least one of these

tasks by the end of November!

Breast cancer awareness month may be over,

but the fight against cancer is ongoing. This

month, you can help raise awareness for

prostate and testicular cancer by

participating in Movember.

Movember is a movement that encourages

men to grow out their facial hair throughout

November in an effort to raise money and

awareness for male reproductive cancers and

mental health.

Every hour, 60 men lose their lives to suicide.

Prostate cancer is another leading cause of

death for men, with 192,443 new cases of

prostate cancer being reported in 2016 alone

(CDC). Male reproductive cancers and

mental health can be difficult subjects, but

Movember gives us an opportunity to open

up these conversations.

In addition to being a perfect time to raise

awareness for men’s health, November is also

a great time to get your flu shot! You can get

yours at Watkins Memorial Health Center by

appointment, or on a walk-in basis.
