COLD WEATHER PRECAUTIONS (1) Anti-freeze Application ①Thoroughly drain water in the pump casing and close drain cock. ②Pour approximately 400 to 500cc of antifreeze solution into the pump

case through the suction port then close the port by the cap. ③Set the throttle dial at the “SUCTION • START” position, and start the engine then pull the water suction lever. While operating the vacuum pump open the drain cock, pump will draw air. Run for approximately 30 seconds. This will distribute the anti-freeze solution through out the pump. ④After running, it is recommended to pour anti-freeze solution in seal

area of the discharge valve using a funnel. (2) Battery : [Model S]

Battery performance is severely effected by low temperatures. Low bat- tery electrolyte specific gravity will lead to possible freezing of the elec- trolyte. To avoid this keep battery fully charged (1.280 specific gravity). (At 1.10 specific gravity the electrolyte will freeze at approximately-10°C / 14°F)

Note) Battery will not be useable if allowed to freeze.

Page 25: TOHATSU PORTABLE FIRE PUMPS OWNER’S MANUAL · TOHATSU PORTABLE FIRE PUMPS OWNER’S MANUAL Models V25A V25AS V20E V20ES V20D2 V20D2S ... Fire pump is heavy, ...

USING ACCESSORIES (1) Automatic battery charger [Model S] Please take the following procedures to charge the battery: ①Check and confirm the volume of the electrolyte for battery (dilute sulfu-

ric acid) removing dust and no loosening of the terminals. ②Insert the plug of the charge into the consent on the pump side. ③Insert the input plug into the alternative current source. ④Put the power switch to “ON” position, so that the green lamp lights and

charging will start. ⑤Normally just leave it in charging condition. Please refer to the

“Remarks”.

Remarks: This is an Automatic battery charger. Just leave the battery in charging con- dition even when the battery has been nearly charged fully, since the char- ging currency will be automatically weakened and change over to subsidiary charging. However, remove the charging plug after pushing the power switch to “OFF” position when the pump is moved and operated. Cautions: • The battery charger should be put on a incombustible table or hang it on a wall in a dry and well-ventilated location.

• If the connection with the terminals ((+) (–)) were wrongly made at the poles in reverse, the breaker will work to cut the electric currency.

Connect the plugs correctly to (+) and (–) terminals, and then put the break-

er to “ON” position. • The auto battery charger equips the electrical circuit protector. When the auto battery charger gets abnormally hot, the protector starts functioning so that the power lamp automatically turns off and the auto battery charger stops charging. After the auto battery charger gets normal temperature, the power lamp automatically turns on and the auto battery charger restarts charging.

Maintenance: • As the electric potential is reduced due

to self discharge even when the battery is not being used, be sure to check the battery once a month. Add distilled water if the level is lower than the specified level and charge the battery.

• It is recommended to measure the spe- cific gravity with a hydrometer. The specific gravity should be 1.28 in the fully charge condition (at ambient tem- perature of 20℃(68°F)).

• To keep surfaces of the battery, clean at all times.

• The battery life is normally 2 years even if the battery is used properly. Replace with new battery every 2 years checking the deterioration of the charging performance.

• When connecting battery wires, attach the positive (+) battery wire first. (When disconnecting battery, remove the negative (–) wire first.)

• Battery electrolyte is a very caustic acid which will cause severe burns to your skin and damage to clothing. Hydrogen gases emitted form the bat- tery are also capable of causing severe burns to skin and damage to clothing.

MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION Please pay your serious attention to maintain the pump in a perfect condition by periodically checking and storing in a good condition enabling to use at all time. (1) To properly store fire pump, place in a level and dry area. High humidity

will cause corrosion of steel and iron parts. (2) Keep fire pump free of dust, dirt, spilled oil, spilled fuel, etc. (3) Fuel tank should be stored full with fuel. (4) Governor case must be filled with oil to proper level. (5) Operate the pump at least once a month. (6) Be sure to check the battery once a month. Add distilled water if the

level is lower than the specified level and charge the battery. (7) If fire pump is to be stored for more than one month, drain fuel from car-

buretor chamber completely. (8) Replace spark plug when the plug is dirty or worn.

NGK B7HS…Gap 0.6~0.7mm (9) Replace V-belt for vacuum pump when the V-belt is cracked or worn. ………………Contact your dealer.

(10) Close the suction port with the cap not to enter a foreign material.
