Our new Foundation students do not need to attend this session as you have already given our teachers detailed feedback. Tuesday 6th March Declaration of poll. Tuesday 20th March First new Council meeting.

Reminder A reminder that bikes, scooters, skateboards and hover boards are not to be ridden in the school grounds between 8.30am and 4pm.

Picnic It was such a pity that we had to cancel the picnic yesterday. Everyone was looking forward to it but the weather was just too severe. We are unsure as to whether we will reschedule at the moment.

Thanks, Cheryl.

Student Leadership 2018 We have once again finished the exciting task of selecting student leaders to take on the roles and responsibilities of House Captains. Along with our School Captains (Aurora Edge and Lachlan Bosch) these students will make up our core group of student leaders in 2018.

Students from grades five and six each had the opportunity to select four male and four female students that they would like to see become successful in obtaining the role of House Captain. Teaching staff were also given the same opportunity to vote, with the student votes accounting for 75% of the votes and teacher votes accounting for the remaining 25% of the votes.

This year we really were spoilt with the calibre of potential candidates!!! While that is a wonderful reflection of the high quality of this year’s grade six cohort, it does mean that we will have some very worthy students missing out on one of the core student leadership roles.

It is with great pleasure though that I would like to officially congratulate the successful candidates who will be taking on the role of House Captains in 2018.

Aria Bryant Blair Wilson Anna Hughson Finn Hansom Danielle Robinson Liam Bradford Jordan Robinson Lucas Williams

I look forward to working closely with these students throughout the year and supporting them throughout their leadership journey in 2018.

Buildings & Grounds The buildings and grounds committee meet monthly to discuss essential maintenance around the school and grounds - we also try and undertake at least one major upgrade project each year. We also conduct regular working bees - usually one a term, where attendance is essential if you would like your child to get a mark above a D plus (only joking Daniel Andrews put a stop to that initiative!!)

We are always looking for new members to join the committee and also people who maybe don't want to necessarily be involved in the committee but are willing to independently complete regular tasks around the school (eg, putting sand back into sand pits, general weeding and pruning etc- some of these tasks may only take 1/2 hour a week, but make a huge difference to how the school presents - in the past parents have completed these tasks by arriving 1/2 hour prior to pick up time.

Whilst we understand it is short notice, our next meeting is this coming Thursday, tonight at 7.30pm in the staff room - please feel welcome to come along or submit ideas of how you feel the school environment can be improved. If you can't make it, that's ok, but please consider us for the future and know that we're always here to listen to any ideas that you may have.

The school lost two stalwarts of the building and grounds team at the end of last term in Andrew Wolstencroft and Ian Payne, whose children graduated. Andrew was a member of building and grounds committee for several years and brought vast experience in landscaping to the team - he was responsible for the re levelling and reseeding of the oval and the installation of the cricket wicket amongst many other projects which involved Bobcats and excavators, whilst Ian was always on hand and willing to undertake any metalwork/welding project that the school required and was always to be seen at each working bee at the top of a ladder (sssh, don't tell the oh and s people, cleaning out the gutters) both will be sorely missed.

Best wishes, Michael and the Building and Grounds Team

The Friendship Chair As part of our valued start Program the Grade 1/2’s wrote about The Friendship Chair and its purpose.

The Friendship Chair by Liam 1/2B People that have no friends or have no one to play with should go to the friendship chair. It’s got fingerprints all over it. It’s a chair that you sit on when you’re feeling lonely. Then someone might come and play with you.

The Friendship Chair by Jam 1/2B At Ferny Creek we have a Friendship chair outside our classroom. It’s for people who don’t have any friends to play with. It has flags on it and it’s very colourful so you can see it. The flags are the colours of the houses.
