Vandana Luthra

Dear Readers,

Certainly, we all understand that the beauty and wellness industry in India is at an all-time high, twice as fast as that of the US and European market. This is an outcome of increasing section of affluent and middle-class population considering beauty and wellness as a necessity. It is evident that there is also an increased emphasis on holistic wellbeing with people’s desire to look good and young, which act as key drivers for the industry growth. This validates that there is ample scope for growth in this segment and a noticeable demand of career opportunities in the beauty and wellness sector. However, there are some major challenges faced by the Indian Wellness domain on the skill development front such as inadequate training or lack of standardized training curriculum, fewer job opportunities, etc. As a matter of fact, the Wellness domain in India is still largely unorganized and fragmented, with very limited number of opportunities in the organized space. The shortfall of talent poses extreme threat to the growth and expansion of whole beauty and wellness industry.

Mrs. Vandana Luthra

We seek support from the Ministry and NSDC for easing out the process and making it more aspirational for the youth to take up beauty and wellness courses. Additionally, support from BWSSC members will also fasten the whole process.

However, I appreciate your continued support for working on a number of important initiatives in this area with BWSSC. As we continue our journey to provide industry-level skills training to young people and women alike, let’s take a look at some of the key milestones that we achieved in the past few days.

B&WSSC has crossed boundaries as we recently signed a MoU with CIDESCO, the World Standard for Beauty and Spa Therapy recognized across 60 countries. This association will not only help to set service delivery standards, but also bring about uniformity in our training and help in knowledge exchange between India and other International countries. It will also enable students trained in beauty and wellness in India to seek international employment opportunities.

We are also happy to announce that we have signed another MoU with Yoga Alliance International which is an instrumental step in taking standards created by B&WSSC in Yoga globally.

With more reasons to celebrate this time, I am glad to share that Prior learning Type 4 is formally launched by the Ministry as apprenticeship, which B&WSSC wanted to initiate 3 years back.

This will be a helpful medium to foster youth and cater to more career opportunities in this segment.

In addition to this, we also extend our heartfelt wishes to the winners of the recently concluded India Skill Competition. As they move forward to represent India at the World Skills Competition-2019, to be held at Kazan in Russia, we wish them good luck and success for it. These candidates will go through rigorous training with the best in the industry and I would like to thank all the stakeholders for their support.

While it feels amazing to acknowledge and celebrate milestones, I take this opportunity to urge all the stakeholders to join hands and work together in ways that can help us empower our nation with skilled manpower. Thank you again for helping BWSSC in all its initiatives and I look forward to continue working with you for fulfilling our Skill India Mission. May the onset of divine season bring prosperity for all of you.

Empower Youth! Empower India!

Dear Readers,

As we are at the end of the current financial year, B&WSSC has made significant progress in bridging the skill gap in the Beauty & Wellness industry. I thank all the members for their continued commitment and support to deliver on our purpose of making B&WSSC the best skill council in India, and an effective contributor to the Govt of India’s ‘Skill India’ Mission.

Women being the strongest pillars of B&WSSC and the Beauty & Wellness industry altogether, we couldn’t overlook the opportunity of celebrating the various feats of our women achievers. We celebrated the International Women’s day by organising an event - ‘Skill a woman and empower women, here in we got successful women entrepreneurs to speak about their journey to further motivate the female members of the council. The training partners and GC members shared some excellent and inspiring stories with us.

B&WSSC conducted its first job fair at Kolkata, which received a tremendous response from industry players. Around top employers participated in the job fair. Many candidates got on-the-spot placement. Besides the Job Fair, the council also conducted a meeting with Vocational Training P artners to understand their challenges and their achievements to build better synergy and execute training programs seamlessly.

Once again, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members of B&WSSC for their groundbreaking achievements in FY18-19. Apart from the stupendous work we are already doing, our focus for FY19-20 would be on CSR activities and providing skill development to the underprivileged and special groups. I would urge all industry members to come forward as always and support us in this initiative as well.

Jai Hind!

Bhakti SapkeISAS International Beauty School

■ What according to you are biggest contributors to the Beauty & Wellness Industry?

I believe that ‘quality education’ defines the future of individuals, industries and a nation.

Being one of the International School

with prestigious accreditations in the field of imparting education to beauty enthusiasts, I take pride in striking the balance in theoretical and practical knowledge given by us to my students for accomplishing their aspirations in this field of Beauty and Lifestyle.

We are committed to strengthening our education quality to build a generation who can think innovatively, as to decipher intricate personalities of people, so that they communicate artistically and creatively through their work!

■ What is that one piece of advice you would give others about life?

To reach to the pinnacle of success in life, one needs to look at their core values! What defines them and keeps them motivated.

For me, it is integrity! It is the core

quality of a successful and happy life.

If you are honest and truthful to yourself, you can build an everlasting empire of success in every part of your life.

■ If you could go back in time to any Era, which would it and why.

Being in present, enjoying the current moment of life is one of my biggest takeaways from my spiritual journey.

Hence, I would purely endorse this

present era which not only I can admire but also contribute through my passion, knowledge and skills.

■ In what ways are you a leader and in what ways are you a follower.

Leadership starts with a belief followed by practice.

I have always believed in ‘Walk The

Talk.

As a leader, only if I can live upto what I endorse and preach, will I be able to gain trust of my people, which will outrank to build a culture of growth and community building.

Along with being a leader, I am a

lifetime follower for new learnings and spiritual transcendence.

Connecting with yourself and knowing your inner potential serves an indefinable purpose for me.

■ If you could abolish one piece of modern technology, what would it be & why.

Digitalisation is the way forward to growth as on today and for many more years to come.

However, we also need to realise

where are we heading with our social intelligence.

On that note, I feel over and uncontrollable usage of smart phones is one thing that I would like to control.

I constantly miss those days when

meeting to wish people on their birthdays was a thrill, writing letter to cousins was so much fun, catching up with friends early morning on weekends for long cycle ride, etc.

I miss that personal touch with people now and in that we, especially our younger lot, is losing on learning these life skills.

I wouldn’t want to abolish this

technology, but definitely control its usage.

■ What was the single most influential and Inspirational event in your life?

Brain Drain is what I always noticed helplessly when I was in UK for number of years. While on one hand I was doing phenomenally well with respect to learning new trends and techniques, on the other hand I was constantly thinking what is my contribution to my country, my tribe!

Page 8: Together, may we give our youth and women the Together ... · Mrs Vandana Luthra From the Chairperson’s Desk Vandana Luthra Dear Readers, Certainly, we all understand that the beauty

Hence, I decided to quit my well settled, highly paying job in UK to start my first of its kind, progressive beauty learning institute ISAS in Pune, India.

And here I am, inspiring hundreds of youngsters to chase

their dreams, passion, art, beyond boundaries.

■ What is your best childhood memory? Very early in life I realised my love for beautiful dolls!

This was at quite young age when I was visiting Twin towers in USA with my parents.

I stopped to see a beautiful doll and by the time I realised, I was lost among the crowd, my parents couldn’t find me for long but the shop manager looked after me.

By God’s grace, we could finally manage to meet each other. On one hand, it was a scary moment, one the other hand, rewarding too....

You know why, because the shop manager gifted that doll to me.

■ If you could only keep five possessions, what would they be?

Of many materialistic possessions, what really remains with you for life is the wealth of mind, people, passion and purity.

So, in my opinion, my biggest possession will be the love of

my family. They are my lifeline. My work, which is a result of my passion. Passion is ever

growing and in that pursuit you just don’t grow alone, but with your community. I am dedicated towards the growth of my students.

What keeps me balanced is my Spiritual connect. This

drives me from within and constantly keeps me in ground with reality. NIRUMA AND DADA are my strengths.

Next would be my commitment to give back to the society

in my own little ways. That inner desire keeps my fire alive and I wouldn’t want to ever give it away.

And the last would be focus towards physical and mental

health! It’s very important to keep yourself energetic and positive from within. I thoroughly believe in the alliance of mind, body and soul.

■ What was one of your most defining moments in life? The biggest twist of my life came when I got married. And

to always thank my stars and my karma, I got the most progressive father-in-law who not only encouraged me to pursue my dreams but also supported me with his all capabilities to prioritise my goals.

He irreversibly, became the backbone of who I am today!

■ Why did you choose that profession? Since I realise my true potential, I knew that expressing

my thoughts innovatively and creatively will be my way forward.

I didn’t want to do the same thing traditionally because I

realised that in the field of art and beauty people do not just express, but they do so passionately, fearlessly and innovatively.

Hence, I decided to word to my thoughts through art of beautiful expression by training my students in beauty, make up, hair and healing.

Today, it gives me satisfaction that I can enable promising students towards entrepreneurship and self-sustainance.

And nothing can be more satisfying than this.

■ What is your strongest personal quality? I am fond of reading and let me share one such read I

came across in early teen age, it said ‘Giving others make us alive! Give all that you have in positive, your learnings, knowledge, our humour, everything in us that’s good!

I understood the real meaning of it in my late 20’s when I could see a natural progression of people towards me to share good practices especially in my field of profession.

Since then, sharing and abundantly giving to people in

whatever way I can has been one thing that’s kept me grounded and made me a better person. The feeling of being content is inexpressive.

■ Your Favourite Quote “Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that

nobody’s going to know whether you did it or not” Oprah Winfrey

■ Social Media you are most found on…. I am found on Facebook in the name Bhakti Shah Sapke,

the most. Although I am very fond of phone calls (Hahaha)

■ Beauty for you is … It’s my mantra of “Man-Vachan-Kaya”, which essentially

means real beauty is glow of purity, when what you feel is what you speak and is what you put in action!

■ Your Life’s mantra… Live life abundantly! Fill your cup, share it, empty it and

refill!

■ Your Vision vis-a-vis Skilling I believe in setting realistic vision, and then I make sure that

I am Skilling myself with my team for a dream to contribute and make India the SKILL CAPITAL of the world and people associated with need qualities to reach to achieve my and Country’s vision.

So for me, both have to be in conjunction.
