TODAY’S fixtures
IT’S NOT a night packed full of fixtures but there are some significant ones nonetheless.
While it is second versus first in the fixture here at Love Lane tonight, there are a handful of league matches being played elsewhere.
Third placed Newport IOW will be looking to beat Bournemouth so they can capitalise on either side slipping up at Love Lane this evening.
Sixth placed Blackfield and Langley will be aiming to close the gap on the sides above them in the table when they host Hamworthy United.
Fareham Town will be hoping they can build on their FA Vase victory against Petersfield on Saturday when they travel to mid-table Bemerton Heath Harlequins.
No extra spice is needed in the North Hants Senior Cup for the game between Alresford Town and Winchester City.
Not only is it a local derby but a num-ber of former Alresford players and their ex-bosses, Danny Robinson and Tim Coles, will return to the club where they enjoyed so much success in the last few seasons before their move down the A31 to Winchester.
In the FA Vase, Horndean will be look-ing to book their place in the next round of the competition when they travel to Lymington Town for a replay.
The two sides drew 1-1 after extra time at Horndean on Saturday.
Away from the Wessex League, there are a handful of matches involving some of our neighbouring teams.
Midweek away treks don’t come much more arduous though than Aldershot’s long haul to north Wales to take on Ches-ter in the Conference this evening.

GOOD evening to everyone attending today’s match at Love Lane, including the players, officials and support-ers from Moneyfields and the match officials.
So our great winning run came to an end on Saturday at Fareham Town in the FA Vase. It was a disappointing way to end the good run of form we have been in for 11 matches.
In truth we just didn’t get our usual game going and we struggled to get a foothold in the game throughout the afternoon. The fact that Fareham scored the win-ner with only five minutes remaining just compounded the misery of the defeat.
However, we have the perfect opportunity to set things right this evening. Having a Tuesday night game only a few days after the defeat at Fareham means there isn’t too much time to dwell on that result and we have the opportunity to get the performance and the result out of our system straight away.
Not that tonight’s fixture will be an easy one. Mon-eyfields have enjoyed an excellent start to the season and will be looking to maintain their good form.
It promises to be a good evening of football be-tween two sides battling it out at the top of the table
Today starts a run of eight matches in 29 days, which will see us playing on Saturdays and midweeks every week now until into November.
The season is really stepping up into a busy period for us and we will need every player ready and fo-cussed to tackle all of the games we have coming up.
However, despite Saturday’s defeat we have proven ourselves to be a good team so far this season and in the testing weeks ahead we need to continue to show the right commitment in every game.

MANAGER’S notes
I WOULD like to welcome Moneyfields to Love Lane this evening for this Premier Division encounter.
If you had said at the start of the season that this fixture would have been between the top two sides in the table, I don’t think many people would have believed you.
It is good for football over this side of the county to see two sides from the east leading the way for a change.
Moneyfields are the best side I have seen this season in the Wessex Pre-mier Division.
They have two very good strikers and the team work very hard for each other. We are going to have to be at our very best to get any form of result from this fixture.
We won’t be helped by the absence of our skipper Alex Ward, who is serving the final game of his suspension.
We also have players like Jason Silver, Robbie Tambling and Luke Heard struggling with what could be
long term injuries, so the options open to me are more limited than I would like.
However, from the players who are selected tonight we need a reaction from them to the way they played at Fareham in the FA Vase on Saturday.
I wasn’t very pleased with the game for a number of reasons. Obviously the
result but our performance was very disappointing and we are going
to have improve considerably to have a chance of winning tonight.
It is also disappointing to go out of a national cup competition as we felt we had the squad to go on a good run in the competition.
For now though we can concentrate on league matches and hopefully we
can continue our good form in this competition
for you tonight and on Saturday.
All the best.

has become a bit cooler. She also has a selection of crisps and
chocolate for sale, as well as hot dogs and sometimes other choices as well.
The shack is located in the turnstiles area of the ground on matchdays.

RESERVE rams TODAY’S visitors
MONEYFIELDS began its current incar-nation back in 1987. Having reached the upper age group in Portsmouth junior football, a group of players decided to continue playing as Portsmouth Civil Service reserves.
Gradually most of the players moved up to the first team and by 1991 the side had risen from the Portsmouth League to Hampshire League Division 1 on the back of three successive promotions.
The club’s league success was matched in cup competitions with Ports-mouth Senior Cup wins in 1991 and 1992, and Hampshire Intermediate Cup victories in 1992 and 1993.
After several seasons in the upper reaches of the Hampshire League, it be-came apparent that the club would have to move away from their home at Copnor Road if they were to progress.
After scouring the city, the club agreed a lease on the old Moneyfields sports ground in Copnor, and in 1994 Money-fields moved to its current ground and became part of the club whose name they now carry.
The Division 1 years were particularly successful and under the management of George Wain and Mickey Gee, Mon-eys never finished lower than sixth and clinched the 1996-97 league champion-ship by 15 points.
Success on the field was matched by extensive ground developments off it thanks to a National Lottery sports fund grant. New changing rooms, offices and a floodlit all-weather pitch were constructed as part of the scheme to bring the facili-ties up to Wessex League standard.
With the requisite developments in place, the 1997-98 campaign saw a tense
battle with Blackfield and Langley to see who would claim a spot in the Jewson Wessex League. Although Blackfield just pipped them in the table, Moneyfields’ better facilities meant it was they who claimed promotion.
The first season in the Wessex League saw the club surprise many people by finishing sixth. The next couple of seasons saw the club post respect-able top ten finishes, but, after finishing a disappointing 16th in 2000-01, Wain and Gee stepped down after 13 seasons in charge.
Under the managerial partnerships of Calvin Hore and Terry Arnold/Paul Gregory, and Craig Stafford and Miles Rutherford, the club established itself in the middle third of the table as well as embarking on a series of runs in the FA Cup and FA Vase.
The management line up was boosted in 2004-05 by the arrival of Bobby De St Croix and Alan Smith from Havant and Waterlooville. They led the club to mid-table for two seasons and reached the final of the Portsmouth Senior Cup in 2005-06, losing 4-3 to Gosport Borough.
In 2006-07 the club reached the third round of the FA Vase and in 2007-08 they finished seventh in the league and runners-up in the Wessex League Cup, losing to Wimborne Town 1-0.
In 2008-09, Moneyfields led the table for a short period of time, before finishing third. The 2010-11 season saw Moneys finish seventh, with Warren Hunt topping a club record of 35 goals in a season.
In 2011-12, they finished fourth in the Wessex Premier, with former AFC Bourn-mouth player Steve Hutchinson finishing top scorer with 34 goals.

Andover Town 1Petersfield Town 2
PETERSFIELD have staged some pretty remarkable comebacks since Ian Saun-ders has been manager of the club.
But none go close to topping this turnaround of fortunes as the Rams equalised just as 90 minutes ticked on to the clock and their winner came in the fifth minute of injury time.
While it rates as Saunders’ best come-back, the football his side played in the opening 45 minutes has been declared the best the Rams boss has seen during his time at Love Lane.
When looking back at the first half it is difficult to see why the Rams needed a dramatic late fightback to claim all three points as they were so in control of the game.
After eight minutes the first of Thomp-son’s crosses found Jake Slater at the far post and Andover keeper Michael Horne had to push his goalbound header away.
Thompson then hit the crossbar with an inswinging cross and the follow up shot flashed across the face of goal, and Sean Wain’s header from another Thompson cross was deflected wide.
Warren Hunt then hit the outside of the post from close range on the left.
Andover’s first chance of the game came after 20 minutes when Michael Dixon found some space and after a quick dribble into the penalty area he fired a shot well wide of the target.
Rams keeper Matt Shortt had to be alert to keep out Joe Woodward’s header from close range and Joe Richardson’s flicked header at the other end just dropped over the crossbar.
Andover took the lead after 54 minutes
when Petersfield lost possession of the ball in midfield.
The ball was worked to the right wing where Craig Blakeman crossed from an acute angle and the ball beat Shortt and dropped into the far corner of the net.
Petersfield almost drew level ten minutes later when good work by Phil Archbold and Jack James on the right saw the ball squared inside to Hunt and his curling effort from the edge of the box was tipped around the post by Horne.
Oliver Yates fizzed a shot just over the crossbar for the home side before the Rams were not awarded what appeared to be a clear cut penalty.
The ball was crossed from the right hand side and clearly hit the defender’s arm but the referee waved away Peters-field’s protests.
As the game entered the final ten minutes Will Essai forced Horne to make a good save at his near post and Jamie Ford couldn’t quite get his foot to a loose ball as it bounced around the penalty area following a corner.
The game then took its dramatic turn. A cross from the left found Hunt com-pletely unmarked on the edge of the six yard box and the Rams striker thumped his header home into the net.
Even better was to come for the Rams’ faithful when, in the fifth minute of injury time, a cross from the left dropped inside the six yard box.
A goalmouth scramble then developed and while a few players swung their legs at the ball to try and put it into the net, Ash Howes eventually got the final touch to force the ball over the line, sparking wild celebrations among Petersfield’s supporters.
Rams leave it late to secure a victory their play deserved

EVERY programme this season will fea-ture a story from the files of the Peters-field Post – Petersfield Town FC’s official media partner.
Normally by this time of the season, pitches have started to go soft and you expect to get a few postponements.
But the Love Lane playing surface is still relatively rock hard from the baking it got during the summer and it will take a few weeks of heavy rain before it takes on its more expected muddy form for this time of the year.
To remind us of what football pitches are like when we get our more traditional weather, today we feature a report from the pages of the Post on February 7, 1980.
‘Mud, mud, inglorious mud’ started the match report on Petersfield’s 2-1 win
against Southampton YMCA.This result booked their place in the
quarter finals of the Hampshire Interme-diate Cup.
The report said that a mid-afternoon downpour turned groundsman Rasher Leggatt’s superb pitch into a soggy mud-bath. Not that the rain bothered Peters-field’s rain-soaked fans much.
Petersfield took the lead on 15 min-utes when Henry Davis latched on to a backpass and beat the Southampton keeper at the second attempt.
The home side’s second goal came on 40 minutes when Johnny Goater was brought down after chasing down a backpass and John Pain smashed home the penalty.
Paul Thompson pulled a goal back for the visitors on 83 minutes.
Petersfield Town 5 Clanfield 0PETERSFIELD cruised through to the second round of the Portsmouth Senior Cup with a five goal victory in an East Hampshire derby against Clanfield.
The Hampshire Premier League visi-tors to Love Lane were still in the game at half time, trailing only 1-0, but Peters-field’s class shone through during the second period and they ran out comfort-able winners.
Only Sean Wain and Ash Howes remained in the starting line-up from the side which beat Blackfield and Langley in Petersfield’s previous match.
Reserve team manager Jamie Steeves and his assistant Andy Vernon took charge for the evening too – some-thing that was tried successfully at Steeves’ former club Moneyfields and something the Rams will be trying out in the competition this season.
During the first half Clanfield created some half chances on goal but nothing which forced keeper Luke Eaton to make a serious save.
The Rams took the lead midway through the first half when Jamie Butwell fired the ball home from the edge of the penalty area.
Petersfield took full control of the match at the beginning of the second half when they scored two goals in the open-ing ten minutes.
A cross from the left was flicked on by Howes and Jake Slater (pictured above) slid in from close range to put the ball over the line.
Slater then got his second and Peters-field’s third goal of the evening when he was first to react to a corner from the left and he flicked the ball past the keeper
from close range.Russ Caldwell then had Clanfield’s
best chance of the game to score when the ball found him unmarked in the pen-alty area but he lashed his shot over the crossbar.
Petersfield then got their fourth goal when the ball was crossed from the right and Gari Judd was on hand to side foot his shot home from 15 yards out.
The scoring was completed by Will Essai when a cross from the right found him near the penalty spot and he fired his shot into the roof of the net.
No derby defeat as Rams see off Clanfield in cup game
