I have my opinions about the whole Zimmerman/Martin case and the fallout from the acquittal of Mr. Zimmerman, but I have largely kept those to myself. Being an avid shooter, my curiosity in the case has been driven by interest in the firearm laws involved. While many have used the case as an occasion to keep racial tensions alive and to advance an agenda, I personally never saw this as a black/white issue. In fact, Mr. Zimmerman is Hispanic. But I learned today (for the first time) that there are supposedly “white” Hispanics and “brown” Hispanics. I had planned to move on from this issue, but it was vaulted to the forefront of my attention this morning when I read the headline, “Ivy League professor calls God a 'racist' after Zimmerman verdict.” The headline was prompted by a blog entitled “The Zimmerman Acquittal: America’s Racist God” written by Anthea Butler, an associate professor at the University of Pennsylvania's Department of Religious Studies. In part, the article asserts that “God ain’t good all of the time. In fact, sometimes, God is not for us.” It also states that God is “a white racist god with a problem. More importantly, he is carrying a gun and stalking young black men.” Ms. Butler claims that the “history of racism in America… has its underpinnings in Christianity and its history.” The article concludes with her contention that those who teach American Religion “have a responsibility to tell all of the story” and according to her the “whole story” includes the idea that the “good Christians of America are some of its biggest racists.” Here’s what I want to make clear…
Good Christians Cannot Be Racists (Luke 10:25-37). The greatest command is to love the Lord with all your heart, soul, and mind. The second is to love your neighbor as yourself. The story of the Good Samaritan, which follows this statement by Christ, makes it abundantly clear just who our neighbor is.
God Is Always Good (James 1:17). He is faithful (Hebrews 10:23) and He is love and no
one can truly be a Christian who does not dwell in His love (1 John 4:8, 16).
God Loves All Men (John 3:16). In 2 Peter 3:9 we read that, “The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.” Even when we were enemies of God because of our sin God showed His love by sending His Son to die for us (Romans 5:6-8).
The fact is if all men patterned themselves after the Son of God, who is the “express image of His person” (Hebrews 1:3), there would be no racism. If we all would love as God loves there would be no need for such racial vitriol as Ms. Butler’s article. And if we hope to spend eternity with God and the faithful of every race and generation then we must obey Him and live loving, righteous, faithful lives. Where do you stand with God today? Be faithful! [Tim]

Dear Supporters,
The financial budget for brother Velaphi goes from the 15th of the
month to the 14th of the next month. All monthly transfers take place on the 15th' of each month. Our brother Velaphi continue to do a great deal with very little. Through the support of the Concord Rd Church of Christ in Brentwood, TN we were able to buy new tires for our World Bible School truck this past month.
We continue to have a need for additional money to buy food, WBS
lessons, truck repairs and all the other expense going into a working office in Bulawayo. Through the first six months of the year our World Bible School workers have been very active.
