Race 1 - Rangedale Plate - 2500 metres:
Jumivag - rider Luke Currie reported the gelding raced keen early and in his view may be at
the end of its preparation.
Au Revoir (IRE) - weakened from the 400m; rider Beau Mertens reported that it did not suit
his mount when being taken on for the lead mid-race. A post race veterinary examination
revealed the horse to be lame in the off foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to
racing again.
Race 2 - SKM Recycling Handicap - 1600 metres:

Lahqa - weakened from the 250m; rider Dylan Dunn could offer no explanation for the
performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Caprese - rider Damien Oliver explained he was obliged to go forward when caught wide in
the early stages however overall was disappointing and could offer no excuse other than the
gelding had come to the end of its preparation. A post race veterinary examination revealed a
slower than normal recovery and co-trainer Mr Troy Corstens confirmed the gelding would
now be spelled. A swab sample was also taken for analysis.
Race 3 - Dr Sheahan Plate - 1200 metres:

the rear of the field after being unable to obtain a position more forward. Raced wide from
the 500m.

which shifted out.

in.
Not A Happy Camper - raced wide without cover.

explanation for the performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any
abnormalities other than a slower than normal recovery.
Prussian Vixen - rider Jessica Payne reported something felt amiss with her mount. A post
race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 4 - Cleanaway Plate - 1200 metres:
Moonlover - slow to begin.
Princess Of Queens - got its head up at the start and again approaching the 800m when over-
racing.
Motown Lil - over-raced through the early stages.
Dezuri - raced three wide without cover.
Monkey Magic - led and weakened from the 300m. When questioned regarding the tactics
adopted today, in particular from the 800m when his mount raced one horse off the fence,
rider Damien Oliver explained that his assessment of the track and the manner in which it
played in earlier races, he was of the opinion the track was racing superior wider out and
therefore it was a conscious decision by him to remain off the fence. He added it was not his
intention to lead but was left with no other option after jumping well and confirmed his
assessment of the track and his intentions with the connections prior to the race. He was also
of the opinion the filly was up in class today. The instructions were confirmed with trainer
Mrs Wendy, Kelly who added that the filly is not one that can be restrained and that track
bias had been discussed pre-race. After viewing the Stewards footage, Mrs Kelly indicated
that given all the circumstances she was satisfied with the ride and the filly would now be
spelled. Stewards noted that the first 600m was run in 37.8 seconds, as opposed to the last
600m being 35.5 seconds. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any
abnormalities.
Race 5 - Essendon Nissan McKenzie Stakes (Listed) - 1200 metres:
Throssell - underwent a veterinary examination after arriving on course and was passed
suitable to race.
Verstappen - raced wide without cover. Rider Damien Oliver could offer no explanation for
the performance, which was below market expectations. A post race veterinary examination
revealed the colt to be lame in the off foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to
racing again.
Kens Dream - rider Dean Yendall dropped his off side rein near the 50m.
Baffert - post race endoscopy detected a degree of mucus that may have affected the colts
racing performance and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. Trainer Mr
Mick Price advised the colt may now be gelded and will be spelled.
Race 6 - Mayoral Charity Community Handicap - 2040 metres:
Lucques - underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers after knocking its off hind
leg on the gate leaving the mounting yard and was passed suitable to race.
Golden Mane - slow to begin and was then inconvenienced by Tooleybuc Kid, which was
taken out by Yulong Baby. Rider Regan Bayliss stated his mount may be at the end of its
preparation. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Yulong Baby - had to steady shortly after the start to avoid the heels of Bold Sniper (GB)
which shifted out and away from Pin Your Hopes (NZ). Held up for several strides near the
300m.
Bold Sniper (GB) - tightened and checked near the winning post on the first occasion.
Cooldini - raced three wide without cover.
Tooleybuc Kid - performed below market expectations; rider Craig Williams could offer no
explanation and a post race veterinary examination revealed a slower than normal recovery.
Chris Symons (Lucques) - pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions
of AR137(a), the carelessness being that near the winning post on the first occasion, he
permitted his mount to shift in when not fully clear of Bold Sniper (GB) resulting in Bold
Sniper (GB) being tightened for room and having to be checked. Chris Symons had his
licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight August 20th
and to
expire at midnight August 27th
, a total of seven race meetings (two metropolitan, five
provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account his guilty plea and that the
carelessness was in the low range.
Race 7 - Westar Trucks Isuzu Handicap - 1500 metres:

something felt amiss with the geldings action. A post race veterinary examination failed to

Nevis (IRE) - weakened from the 250m after sitting outside the leading horse. A post race
veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

todays run. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The track was upgraded from Soft 6 to Soft 5 at 4.49pm after the running of this race.
Race 8 - 1print Carlyon Stakes (Listed) - 1000 metres:
Keen Array - late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 5.00pm when the gelding had a colic
attack in the stabling area. All monies invested on Keen Array to be refunded. Deductions

a post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities other than a slow
recovery.
Race 9 - William Hill Handicap - 1200 metres:
Le Bonsir - connections advised would be ridden forward; settled mid-field and raced wide
without cover throughout. When questioned regarding the tactics apprentice Beau Mertens
explained he understood the instructions to be that whilst he was told to go forward from the
barrier, that mid-field with cover would have been a satisfactory position. He added he was
unable to carry out those instructions without causing interference and hence raced wide
without cover.
Sebring Sun - slow to begin.
Solsay - began awkwardly.
Runsati - began awkwardly.
Just Magical - slow to begin. Held up for clear running from the 500m until shifting out at
the 150m. Rider Michael Walker was severely reprimanded for shifting out abruptly upon
