SHARON Cuneta was not kid-ding when she declared onTwitter recently that she would

leave former Sen. Francis “Kiko”Pangilinan and give P10 million incash to whoever would be able toprove that her husband misused hispork barrel funds, as alleged by Sen.Jinggoy Estrada in a privilege speech

at the Senate. Although she had

already deleted theheadline-grabbingtweet, Cuneta told en-tertainment reportersat a press conferencefor Madam Chairman,a comedy-drama se-ries to air soon onTV5: “I’ll stand by

 what I’ve said till the

end of my days—hin-di magnanakaw angasawa ko.”

ConfidentThe Kapatid artist

said she was not say-ing she had P10 mil-lion; she would work to earn it if needed.“That’s just how con-fident I am,” shequipped, quickly adding with a laugh,“ Bakit hindi yata nila

was accused of beingsomething he was not.“If you know your

husband well… aalmaka rin,” Cuneta said.“I believe [this is true]even if your husbandis not a politician.”

Asked whatPangilinan thought of her controversialtweet, Cuneta said hesimply laughed it off and thanked her forthe support. “He toldme, ‘Thank you sweet-

heart for your confi-

Perhaps to stopherself from revealingmore than necessary,

the 47-year-old starreminded everyone,“Don’t let ourselvesbe distracted from thereal issues—I won’tallow that.”

She added, “If youhave questions aboutKiko, I’m sure he willbe very capable of an-swering those when

we arrive at the truthabout the issue (pork barrel scam). You can

write down yourquestions; I will glad-ly answer them whenit’s all over.”

Cuneta begged off  when asked if the is-sue affected her friend-ship with Estrada. Butin an earlier interviewat the TV5 tradelaunch, she admittedshe was surprised by Estrada’s claims.

“Jinggoy is a closefriend… I was shockedbecause I love him. If Ididn’t care for him, Iprobably wouldn’thave reacted,” shesaid. “But it’s OK, it’sall part of politics. Weall just want the truthto come out.”

A THRILLED basketball-mad nation witnessed a firstlast night.

A l t h o u g h c o m m i s s i o n e rDavid Stern didn’t exactly shootdown the idea, he admitted thateconomics will play a big partfor the NBA to stage a repeat of the blockbuster battle betweenthe Houston Rockets and the In-diana Pacers at Mall of Asia Are-na in Pasay City last night.

“It’s a little bit more problem-atic for regular season game be-cause of the high cost,” Sterntold the INQUIRER in a roundtablediscussion with selected media.

“But we’re always studying it. And I hope we’ll be returning atsome point in the not so distantfuture, whether it’s a friendly ora regular season game.”

Stern said, too, that the coun-try’s cage development is per-

fectly on track.“No one has to give advice to

the Philippines. It’s an intensebasketball country,” said Stern.

“Obviously there’s a lot of bas-ketball being played here. My guess is that one player or anoth-er will be scouted and be broughtto the colleges, see how they doand move up. So I don’t think theFilipino basketball community needs an advice from me.”

The NBA also made its pres-ence felt in the country in 1979

when the then Washington Bul-lets played an exhibition gameagainst the Philippine Basketball

Association (PBA) All-Stars.“I think the Philippine fans de-

serve it and they got it,” Stern saidof last night’s first preseason gamein Southeast Asia. “We’re gettingrobust reactions from our fans ona global basis. But the place thathas been really an extraordinary partner for us is the Philippines.”
