Coordinated Downtown Developments

As many of you know, a Joint Staff Task Force on coordinat-ed downtown development has formed. The task force consists of City, County and State Court staff, an independent facilitator, and tech-nical consultants.

Over the course of a 12-week process, they are exploring oppor-tunities and providing information to the City Council and Board of County Commissioners regarding possible collaborative concepts spe-cifically having to do with use of pub-licly owned properties and the siting of a new City Hall, a new Court-house and a year-round, stable Farm-ers Market space.

Saturday Market is recognized as a major stakeholder in this dis-cussion given our proximity to the properties being discussed, our rec-ognized value to Lane County and the City of Eugene and the synergy between Lane County Farmers Mar-ket and Saturday Market.

On Tuesday this week, your Board Chair, a multi-committee member and myself attended a joint elected officials meeting and I made some comments on behalf of Satur-day Market. On Friday, your Board Chair, Board Secretary (who is also chair of SM’s Downtown Develop-ments Task Force) and I attended a meeting with members of the Joint Staff Task Force present, as well as other high-level City and County staff. Farmers Market UpdateHappy autumn! Over at the Lane

County Farmers Market we’re start-ing to have winter squashes, and we’re preparing for a festive Holiday Farm-ers Market at the fairgrounds.

As you’re likely aware, the City and County Joint Elected Officials have formed a task force that’s con-sidering where to locate a new City Hall and County Courthouse in downtown Eugene.
