The Baptism of the Lord January 13, 2019
From the Pastor
Dcn. Abel CortesDcn. Larry LucidoDcn. Bob Marrinan
Dcn. Brian MitchellDcn. Peter Raad
My Dear Parishioners,
The Baptism of the Lord reminds us that Jesus Christ is the Beloved Son of God.
He is the Light of the nations and the Lord of all creation. He subjected Himself to
baptism in the Jordan, making holy the waters of our own Baptism. Our Lord shows
us how we, too, must seek and follow that call from Our Heavenly Father so that we
may do His will. Jesus gives us His grace to struggle against the very tempting voices
of the world that may distract us from our true vocation.
Christmas Season Ends—Ordinary Time Begins: The Christmas Season officially
ends with the Baptism of the Lord. Ordinary Time begins on January 14th and
will pause on Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Lent-Easter Season. Ordinary
Time is anything but “ordinary.” During these in-between weeks, we may focus on
the mysteries of Our Lord, contemplating His teachings, His passion, death, and
resurrection. Sundays are the anchor in Ordinary Time and are special opportunities
for grace so that we can be renewed in faith. All Sundays are Holy Days of Obligation,
calling each of us to fulfill our duty to attend and participate in the Holy Sacrifice of the
Mass. Let us keep the Sabbath Day “holy” first by giving to God our time at Holy Mass.
God will continue to give us Himself in the Sacred Mysteries of our faith. Then, let us
spend Sundays sharing the gift of faith within our families.
In Christ,Fr. Guadagnoli
This weekend marks the official launch of our We Are St. Monica – A Legacy of Faith campaign. This is a critical effort to provide a safe, secure and innovative environment for our school, so that we may continue to educate our students in the Catholic faith. Please join us in Angel Hall after all Masses. We will have school tours led by current students, as well architectural renderings of the project. Volunteers will be available to answer any and all questions.
This week, all registered parishioners and school families will be mailed a packet of materials about our campaign. A case statement booklet is enclosed, along with a letter from Fr. Guadagnoli requesting a pledge to the effort.
We hope that all families will choose to participate in this campaign. Please continue to pray for the success of this effort. Thank you in advance for your response and generosity.
