Introductory Elements (#4) Use a comma to set off introductory elements.

If the introductory element is brief and the sentence can be read easily without the comma, it can be omitted.

In 2010 your guidance counselor hooked you up with the best English teacher in the history of the universe.

When it seems to modify the entire sentence and not just the verb or some single element in the rest of the sentence, put a comma after it.

Finally, the day ended.
