Love INC of the Cedar Valley is on a mission to mobilize local churches
in order to transform communities. As one of Nazareth’s Local Missions
Partners, Love INC encourages churches to
be united in purpose and fully engaged in
actively living out our faith by lovingly
serving people in our community, they meet
tangible needs and spend the time needed
to listen to each person’s story so they feel
valued beyond their circumstances, and
they offer several classroom environments that teach one or more basic
skills to move those we serve toward a stable and self-sufficient way of
life. Please join us in welcoming Love INC as Nazareth’s highlighted
Local Missions partner for this month. To learn more or to support this
partner through service or donations, go to www.loveinccv.org.

O God, in the transfiguration of your Son you confirmed the mysteries of faith
by the witness of Moses and Elijah, and the in the voice from the bright cloud
declaring Jesus your beloved Son, you foreshadowed our adoption as your

fullness, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

February 23, 2020 SERMON NOTES
No More Secrets! 1 Peter 1:16-21 and Matthew 17:1-9
Read the texts for today and reflect on the following questions:
Why do people keep secrets? Brainstorm as many reasons as
possible.
Why did Jesus frequently invite his disciples and others to remain
silent about the miracles He performed?
What are some of your own “mountaintop” experiences in life and
do memories or lessons from these moments carry you through
your “valley” experiences - the hardships, uncertainties, and fearful
times?
What was Jesus’ purpose in inviting Peter, James, and John to go
up the mountain with him?
Why doesn’t the “Messianic Secret” apply to us today?
READ IT: Read and meditate over all three biblical accounts of the
Transfiguration from Matthew 17:1–8, Mark 9:2–8, Luke 9:28–36.
WATCH IT: Go to Youtube and search: “Mt. Tabor Overview Tour:
Transfiguration of Christ, Israel, Matthew 17:1–8, Mark 9:2–8, Luke
9:28–36.” This 31-minute video gives a great biblical and historical
background to the accounts of the Transfiguration and is filmed on
site at Mt. Tabor in Israel.
LIVE IT: Commit to “knowing Christ, growing in Christ, and making
Christ known” and accept my Pastor’s Challenge to spend at least
one hour each week in public worship; one hour each week in
Bible study, and one hour each week in dedicated Christian service
to others. As part of this commitment, make plans now to
participate yourself in one of our Lenten Small Groups starting the
week of March 1. Invite a friend, co-worker, neighbor, or family
member to “come and see” and be part of the same small group for
nine weeks. Sign-ups are still open today!
