Headmaster’s Corner Firstly we congratulate Alex Grocott on his Scholarship success to Monmouth School. This is a wonderful achievement given the high calibre of applicants and significant in that it is the first ‘deferred’ offer for a Year 6 pupil being offered a scholarship for Year 9 entry. On Monday the children welcomed adventurer, Sean Conway to the school. His inspirational talk on swimming from Lands End to John O’Groats provoked what he later described as the ‘the best questions I have ever been asked in a school’. Questions included topics such as his motivation for carrying out the challenge; what kept him going; what was the hardest thing for him to over come and was his business really worth only a pound when he sold it last year. Our roving Totally Tockington reporters, Rachel Shutt and Helena Brain, interviewed Sean upon his arrival and a full copy of their report can be read in this week’s issue. We very much hope to see Sean again as he passes through the area when he runs the opposite direction. During his run he would like to meet with people who have inspirational stories so if you have one to share please do let me know and I can pass on your details. Thank you to the FOTM Committee who met on Wednesday to continue the planning of this year’s Family Fun Day on 21st June. More details will follow but the day is designed for the whole school (Wrens through to Year 8). The day will include a fun triathlon (if there can be such a thing!) followed by music, refreshments, bouncy castles, the Mojo Active climbing wall, swimming, craft stalls and much more. Keep an eye out for the posters but in the meantime please do keep this date free in your diary. Thank you to the children who worked hard on the continued development of the Lower School Outdoor Learning Environment this week. The whole area is now coming along nicely and is already proving to be an excellent asset to the department. Staying with Lower School, well done to Year 2 for their super assembly this morning on Medieval Knights. You should have received a letter from me just before Half Term regarding Saturday schooling. If you did not receive it please search your child’s bag or ask the office for another copy. Thank you for all the very positive comments . I would like to invite all of Year 8 to their termly Prefects’ Supper on Thursday 20th March in the Common Room. Collection as usual will be at 7.30 pm from the front entrance of the Manor House. Music Department News Informal Concert There will be an Informal Concert on Tuesday 4th March at 1.30 pm in the school hall featuring a lively mix of instrumental playing and singing. Everyone is welcome! Thornbury Eisteddfod Parents are welcome to go along to listen to their children singing in the choirs performing at St Mary’s Church, Thornbury on Thursday 13th March. Open Arms International & Tockington Manor School

TMS recently raised £197.73 for Open Arms International to support their fabulous work in Kenya. The children all came

to school in Kenyan colours for a mufti day.Mrs Helen Harrison, a Thornbury representative of Open Arms, delivers regular school assemblies informing us of the

sterling work that the charity undertakes in Kenya. They support orphans and vulnerable children in the Eldoret region of

the country. They do this through the provision of high quality education and medical care, giving access to all. Further

information can be obtained from www.openarms.org.uk.
