What is Green Landscaping?

Green Landscaping is the practice of turning inefficient and ecologically challenged spaces such as a backyards laws and driveways, into a more functioning part of the ecosystem. The scale of action a person can take can range from simply planting a vegetable garden, to installing a driveway system that feeds the water table instead of rinsing into drains. Green Landscaping is an excellent and easy way to take another step in maintaining a better carbon footprint and can be economically beneficial.

Throughout this Presentation we will look at:

• Local Vs. Shipped Produce• How to Make a Vegetable Garden•How to Start a Compost•And How to Cash in on Free Water

Making A Garden Bed

You’ll want to ensure you have a nice sunny spot in your yard first off.

Secondly you will need construction materials and tools including a hammer, nails, a saw and enough wood or like material to create a box two pieces of wood high.

Thirdly you will need enough soil to fill your box along with the desired plants.

Creating a wooden frame is not as hard as you might think, so get out there and try swinging a hammer.

Organic Waste to... Organic Gold

Creating a compost bin is quite simple. All you will require is a length of chicken wire or other like material and a few wooden stakes. Simply create a circle with your wire, stake it into the ground for some support and you will be ready to start turning your old carrots into nutrient filled Earth. Many people find it beneficial to use three separate bins to better cycle in the new soil. The new soil should be ready within a year or two, and can be used in your vegetable garden.

Free Water From The Sky

To save on your hydro bill, a water basin can be attached to you eavesdrop. This water can then be used to keep your vegetables growing steadily all season long. The materials for this project are slightly more expensive, or harder to salvage but considerable savings can be had in the long run. By keeping rainwater you will take stress off of the city grid, or be able to keep your grass green during a water ban.
