FUND RAISING ACTIVITIESYoung Indian American sibling's enthralling vocal concert takes compassion to “Lofty Heights”

Siblings Sriranjani and Nachiketan share a proud moment and joy of giving with Dr. SS.Badrinath

The Srinivasans namely Shri Kumar Srinivasan a senior pharma professional and Srimathi Bhuvana Srinivasan a software programmer, settled for long in the Philadelphia area are great connoisseurs of Carnatic music, another common passion that the couple share is their empathy to Sankara Nethralaya's cause and philosophy. Their common passion and empathy seemed to have had a positive impact on their daughter Sriranjani and son Nachikethan Vivek and the young siblings decided that their Vocal Arangetram to be held in India would be dedicated to Sankara Nethralaya's noble cause of eradicating blindness and providing the light of life to the visually impaired.

The vocal Arangetram of Sriranjani and Nachikethan, sishyas of Smt. Kiranavali Vidyasankar the renowned vocalist and initiator of “Lofty heights” was held under the auspices of Vidwan Srimushanam Sri Raja Rao and Cleveland Sri V.V. Sundaram at the Music Academy Mini hall, Chennai. Handbills on the program exhibited prominently in the venue making an earnest appeal to the audience to donate towards the cause of providing cost free eye care to indigent patients by Sankara Nethralaya had a spontaneous effect and raised a handsome amount as donation.

Highly touched by the thoughtful gesture of a young girl barely in her teens and her bubbly younger brother, Dr. S S.Badrinath met the Srinivasans where a beaming and jubilant Sriranjani handed over the proceeds collected at the Arangetram directly to him.

4. Automated alerts through SMS for patients for various transactions and activities from HMS/ EMR

5. Enabling patients to fill up personal details online for faster admission process

6. Sustained enhancements to EMR to improve ease of use and functional enhancements.

7. Enhancements to reporting capabilities for improved decision making

From a IT infrastructure perspective continued to modernize the solution architecture which enables and guarantees better security & predictability of our digital assets.

The implementation of Ophthalmic EMR has been well accepted across the country. With new implementations at Lotus Eye Hospital and additions to Eye Q Hospitals now the total installations across the country is at 102 and many of them are the tier 2 and tier 3 towns / locations, which speaks volumes of the maturity of the processes and its universal acceptability across the users.

often confused with classical CSR which was practiced as philanthropic donations.

However large size corporate confined CSR activities to their internal charity foundation. Many

corporate preferred CSR activities in local areas. Some corporate expected a reciprocal gesture

such as free eye screening for their employees. Some corporate preferred to carry out CSR with

stake-holders (with a reciprocal business motive).

For FY 2015-16 follow up emails were sent for 96 companies. Separate appeals were sent by email

to CAs requesting to refer their clients to us.

In FY 2015-16, corporate like India Bulls(Mumbai), BHEL(Chennai), TVS Sundram

Fasteners(Chennai), Crompton greaves Ltd.(Chennai), LNV technology Pvt Ltd.(Chennai), Sun

Pharma (Madhurantagam) have contacted us expressing their desire to do CSR projects through us.

While a follow-up is continued, new approaches were also being made.

CONCLUSIONSankara Nethralaya once again reinforced its position as a premier institution delivering quality

eye care. As emphasized by the Founder Visionary, Dr. S S Badrinath, Nethralaya is growing on all

the 4 focus areas of Ophthalmic Care, Free Treatment to poor patients and Teaching, Training and

Fundamental Research. The performance is continuously improving with the passing years. The

emphasis on Research and Tertiary Care is on the increase. The year saw unprecedented activities

of building two state of the art hospital facilities – Shri A Sivasailam Block at the Pycrofts garden in

Chennai and the first of the four blocks at RajarHat at Kolkata. In due course of time the 4 patents

granted to VRF, our Sister Organisation will generate income, justifying the resource spent on the

research. Collaborative research in other large research organizations in India and abroad have

also been concluded.

The SN Academy will play a significant role in the coming years and will turn out significant number

of qualified personnel in the cause of Eye Care Delivery System in addition to being a revenue

earner for Sankara Nethralaya.

Threats & ConcernsThe achievements and the operational highlights have been listed in the previous section of this

report. While the Institution is continuing to be a Referral Tertiary Care Centre in India, as already

reported last year, MRF has to face sustained competition in the anterior segment from several

newer entrants/chain hospitals. Our excellent facilities are not fully utilized we also upgraded the

compensation package of employees and consultants in order to avoid issues and continue the good

work. This results in increased expenditure to SN also and thus pushing up the eye care expenditure

for the patients. Sankara Nethralaya's standards of eye care delivery have been accredited with a

NABH certification and international recognition, we are managing in the face of the severe

competition and at the same time keep updating with newer equipments & techniques and

increased expend for research & training.
