SessionsSessions

Schuyler Hedstrom Move to the music: musical activities to

strengthen your classroom (6 to 12-year-olds)

As an inspiration for creative play or as a memory-enhancing

technique, music and singing will increase your pupils’ vocabulary,

collaboration, and general happiness in the classroom. By

incorporating arts and crafts activities, and by using music

from different genres (classical, rock, country), this session will

provide practical ideas to promote essential life skills which will

have rewarding effects on the classroom environment.

Will Varney Projects: a route to cross curricular success

(3 to 6-year-olds)

Project work is an effective way of developing childrens’ curiosity

about the world around them.

In this session we will provide a clearly-staged structure to

introduce children to cross curricular topics. This will allow them

to develop not only language skills but also learning skills that

will help to prepare them for cross curricular learning later in the

Primary classroom. From ideas for involving parents to suggestions

for incorporating cooperative learning techniques, this session will

demonstrate how to make the most of project work to extend

childrens’ knowledge, understanding and skills beyond the

classroom.

Schuyler Hedstrom The words we use: improve your pupils’ English written work

(8 to 12-year-olds)

Writing is one of the key skills in second language acquisition

and requires time in the classroom. By focusing on creative

writing such as stories and poems, figurative language such as

metaphors and alliteration, and letter writing, this session will

provide specific writing activities to inspire individual creation,

pair work, peer critique, and group writing.

Speakers

Josep Suller Reinventing the wheel with ICT

(ESO & Batxillerat)

In this session we’re going to see a few easy-to-use ICT tools

that will let you create your own motivating ELT materials or

customize those traditional activities that you probably already

know and might be using regularly so as to make them more

engaging for students.

We’ll be exploring some well-known programmes such as

Powerpoint, Word, Excel, Windows Media Player, HotPotatoes, etc.

and others you may never have heard of to discover part of the

wide range of possibilities they offer the ELT teacher.

Alanna Gluck Speaking - a skill for life!

(ESO)

Do your students have difficulty speaking in front of the class?

Public speaking skills do not develop over night. In this session,

you will learn fun and simple public speaking games to include

in your daily classroom activities that will boost the confidence

of every student, encouraging them to speak publicly no matter

their English level.

Glòria Ferrer Viader Towards effective communication skills

(ESO & Batxillerat)

Catalunya) is an official exam aimed at university students or

any student over 18. This session will provide an insight into the

writing and speaking tasks with the intention of helping teachers

develop activities to help their students improve in these two key

communicative skills.
