SUMMER READING CLUB AT TENTERFIELD LIBRARY

Tenterfield Library will be running Summer Reading Club over the Summer School Holidays. Starting on Monday 11 December 2017 and running until Thursday 25 January 2018. All children who register will receive a bag of goodies and a reading log. The programme will conclude with a presentation on Thursday, 25 January 2018. So come and talk to the library staff about how to register.

AUSTRALIA DAY AWARDS 2018 Tenterfield Shire Council is calling for nominations for the local awards as a focal point for Australia Day celebrations to be held on Friday, 26 January 2018. Selection of the award winners for each of the following categories will be made on the basis of service to the local community, emergency services and/or sports in any field and all residents of the Shire are eligible to nominate, or be nominated, for selection:

Citizen of the Year;

Young Citizen of the Year;

Sportsperson of the Year;

Young Sportsperson of the Year;

Emergency Services Volunteer of the Year;

Community Event of the Year

All nominations should be marked “Confidential” for the Chief Executive and endorsed ‘Nomination for Citizen Award’, ‘Nomination for Sports Award’, ‘Nomination for Emergency Services Volunteer Award’ or ‘Community Event Award’ and should reach Council’s office by COB on Friday, 15 December 2017. NAMING OF NEW NICHE MEMORIAL WALL AT TENTERFIELD CEMETERY

At the Ordinary Council Meeting of 22 November 2017 Council resolved to consider the naming of the newly constructed niche memorial wall at the Tenterfield Cemetery. Public notice is given of Council’s intention to adopt the above following consideration of any submissions received. Information is available/on public display at the following locations:

EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST CODE OF CONDUCT PANEL

Tenterfield Shire Council is calling for Expressions of Interest for appointment of Conduct Reviewers to its Code of Conduct Review Panel for a fixed term period of four years.

The role of the Conduct Reviewer will be to assess, investigate and report on alleged breaches referred in relation to Tenterfield Shire Council's Code of Conduct by Councillors or by the General Manager. Applicants should have:

Sound knowledge of local government practices;

Knowledge of investigative processes and procedural fairness requirements, or

Experience in investigations, law, public administration, public sector ethics or alternative conflict resolution /mediation experience.

Conduct Reviewers will be registered on a Tenterfield Shire Council Service Provider Panel and contracted on a case-by-case basis.

COUNCIL WINS RETAIL, TOURISM & LEISURE AWARD

Mayor Peter Petty, Chief Executive Terry Dodds, Senior Economic Development Officer Harry Bolton, and Tourism Officer Caitlin Reid were in attendance at the Regional Development Australia Northern Inland (RDANI) Innovation Awards in Armidale on Friday evening when Council was announced winner of the Retail, Tourism & Leisure Award. Caitlin accepted the Award on behalf of Council which featured the “Tenterfield True” brand. The Retail, Tourism & Leisure category was sponsored by Armidale Regional Council. Mayor Peter Petty was delighted with the Award, saying “The Tenterfield True brand has given the business houses of Tenterfield focus and direction with the region growing in recognition”. The Award reflects the combination of tourism and business working together in the community and in partnership with Council”. Innovation was in the spotlight with awardees from Wee Waa to Tenterfield, Wallabadah to Boggabilla. Tenterfield business Blue Sky Contracting also achieved success, being Highly Commended for the Optus Armidale Manufacturing & Engineering Award.
