It is our honour to welcome you in our small, but very active international com-munity. Th e Guide you are holding in-tends to help you manage your everyday life in Pápa, Hungary, which might be very diff erent from what you are used to. Nevertheless, nothing can substitute the experience you gain, the friends you make, the life you will have here.
Pápa is a small town in the middle of the Transdanubian Region of Hungary. Al-though the SAC community consists of nationals of twelve diff erent nations and their dependents from all over the world and is affi liated with at least three diff er-ent organizations, it is not a large commu-nity, counting around a thousand people in a thirty-two thousand-citizen town.
Th e Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) is still a new venture; it is barely school age, born in 2008. Since then the people work-ing here and the families supporting them have made signifi cant eff orts to make a well-working framework of living and op-erating a unique strategic airlift capability for the SAC Nations.You will fi nd certain operations and fami-ly support related achievements and mile-stones listed on the next page.
From the very beginning there has been a Community Liaison Offi ce for the Heavy Airlift Wing and NATO personnel to help manage with local administration and the language, guiding them through the sometimes complicated procedures of getting settled in Hungary. Pioneers of this programme have shaped the support functions existing today, just like an inter-national primary and secondary school
in the town, a Medical Liaison or an En-glish speaking doctor on Base. Today, you are joining those who have the chance to shape them further. Th e Newcomers’ Guide you are holding, an amazingly use-ful community website InSitePapa.com run by volunteers or the several commu-nity events taking place throughout the year; are all just very recent achievements, which we the management, the employees and members of the community all intend to keep running and keep improving in the future.
You are joining a team of professionals who are working in a quickly developing environment operating the three SAC C-17 aircraft which have the highest mis-sion capability rate (93%) among all the C-17 users, being able to keep budget execution under the approved targets.
You are now becoming a part of a unique programme, a very special team and an experience of a lifetime is ahead of you and your family. We wish you all the best in this fascinating and unforgettable endeavour called the SAC!

Moving to a new country must raise tons of questions. We are trying to answer most of those with this Newcomers’ Guide. In order to be able to use the Guide eff ective-ly, with little eff ort, here is a little explana-tion on elements you will fi nd the booklet.

When you move to a new country with a new culture, you inevitably will expe-rience a cultural shock. Th e shock is less and less intense with each move to anoth-er country. So if this is your fi rst interna-tional assignment, don’t worry, what you are experiencing, everybody else is going through and is perfectly normal. Th e phases of adjustment last for diff erent periods for each individual. Some people are over with it in weeks, some in months, some even a year. It is important however for you to understand that this is a normal psychological reaction from each individ-ual and eventually you will get to the ad-justment phase.

Hungary is a member of the European Union, NATO, the OECD, the Visegrád Group and the Schengen Agreement. Th e country is divided into 19 administrative divisions, the counties. Pápa is a town of 32.000 residents, located in Veszprém county with the capital Veszprém.
The LanguageIn Hungary the offi cial language is Hun-garian (magyar), which is not an Indo-Eu-ropean, but a Finno-Ugric language. 75% of the adult population of Hungary does not speak any other language than Hun-garian, however the number of young adults and people living in cities or attrac-tive tourist areas speaking either English or German is higher.
In Pápa due to strong historical German infl uence a considerable number of peo-ple speak German and in bigger shops and most of the restaurants you can use English too.

Time-zone, Time, DateHungary is in the Central European Time Zone (CET) which is one hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+1). Hun-gary uses Daylight Savings Time (DST), in Europe oft en referred to as ‘Summer Time’. DST in Hungary starts the last Sun-day of March and ends the last Sunday of October.
Time format in Hungary follows the 24 hours system. 8 in the morning is marked as 08:00 or 8:00, while 2 in the af-ternoon is marked as 14:00.

Where to stay upon arrival
Th ere are several options for you to stay before you could occupy your house you are going to live in. Pápa off ers accom-modation of all qualities and prices. For temporary lodging check out any accom-modation website (like booking.com) or contact your primary point of contact (NSE, SNR, CLO) in Pápa. Living on Pápa Air Base is not an option.

Personal Safety
Pápa is a small town, it is quite safe com-pared to larger cities in Hungary. Howev-er, please pay attention on always lock-ing your doors when leaving or when at home. Do not leave your car or your bicy-cle unlocked. In crowds watch your per-sonal belongings. Avoid rarely populated areas at night.
Do not leave valuables (purse, camera, keys, etc.) in clearly visible areas (car seat, bike carriage, etc.). Do not keep your keys together with your address.

Metric System
Hungary’s offi cial system is metric. Stores have prices marked in kg, but you would normally ask for portioned quantities in dkg. Distances and speed limits on roads are in kilometres (km) and gas is mea-
sured in litres (l). Hungarians measure temperature in degrees Celsius (C).
Shops
Privately owned shops open around 07:00 and close around 17-18.00 in Pápa on working days, close around 12:00 Satur-days and are closed Sundays.
Multinational corporate supermarkets and hypermarkets have longer opening hours from Monday to Saturday. Only selected small, privately owned shops are allowed to be open on Sundays. People do not bargain for a lower price in stores that sell new products.
Every Tuesday and Friday there is a fresh food and goods market downtown Pápa, on the marketplace. It is accepted to bar-gain at the market.
You will pay Value Added Tax (ÁFA) on all goods. Generally the amount of ÁFA is 27%, for some food products 18% and for human medicine 5%. HAW members are not entitled for ÁFA reimbursement (ex-cept US Military), international NAMP employees are to a certain annual amount. For US personnel, please refer to OMNI-BUS Bilateral Agreement.

Second-hand and consignment stores sell used clothing, furniture, and other house-hold items, usually very cheap. Sometimes
you can bargain to bring the price down.
Social customs in Hungary
When you leave your homeland and come to live in a new country, everything seems diff erent. People here may seem strange to you because they speak and behave diff er-ently. Th ey have diff erent social customs. Sometimes misunderstandings happen be-cause of these diff erences. Th en, you may feel confused or embarrassed. Watch how people behave with each other—for example, how close they stand when they speak to each oth-er, and so on.
Hungary’s society may have diff erent values from your culture. Hungary’s society is quite homogeneous, the vast majority of people are Hungarians. In Hungary many couples
live together without marriage, which can be registered to be a legal form of a family. Same-sex couples cannot get married in Hungary. Many Hungarians live in single-parent fam-ilies, because of the separation or divorce of the parents. Many others live in blended fam-ilies, where children may be from previous relationships.
In Hungary men and women have to be treated equally by law, and no discrimination is allowed for gender, age, race, religion, sexu-al orientation, etc.
In Hungary it is against the law to smoke in public buildings, restaurants and bars, you have to look for the nearest smoking area
outdoors.
It is expected to say hello when you enter a shop or when you pass someone you know in the street, and to say good bye when you are leaving a place. In Hungary people usually respect privacy. You should not ask personal questions about how much money someone makes, who they live with, what their religion is, what their sexual orientation is, or what property they own, unless you are getting to know them well.For Hungarians it usually takes time to be-come friends with someone. A great fi rst step towards befriending the locals might be that you try to say something in Hungarian to them. Th ey will most probably appreciate your eff ort.
Do not be surprised if your neighbour does not chat with you. Neighbours so-cializing together is not very common.
Needless to say, each individual is diff er-ent and your experience might diff er.
How to communicate?
Telephone
Th ere are three kinds of telephones in Hungary. You can have a landline phone, a mobile phone (further information in “Phone” on page <?>) or you can use public phones. How much you have to pay for each call depends on your telephone plan with your service provider. Calling rates are ususally minute-based.Normally, local phone calls or phone calls to the parent network cost the less and calls to abroad are the most expensive.
Th e country code of Hungary is +36 or 0036, the code of Pápa is 89. Th e code of Budapest is 1. Mobile phone codes can be 20, 30, 70 or 31.
When you initiate a call you have to start with +36 or 06, then dial the local code, then the number which is a 6 digit num-ber for landline phones, a 7 digit number for Budapest and mobile phones.E.g. +36 30 123 4567
When using public phones or phones in hotels, you are paying on a minute-based rating.
Please be aware, even though Hungary is a member of the European Union, each call to another country will be charged as a call to abroad.
You normally have to have ‘Roaming‘ en-abled to be able to call to or from abroad.

Internet
Until you have an internet subscription in your home, you can use free wifi hotspots downtown or password protected wifi spots in hotels, restaurants if you are a guest.
Mailing
In Hungary you can send mails and par-cels through the Hungarian Post (Magyar

You can send your letters by going to a post offi ce and buying a stamp or an en-velope with a pre-printed stamp on it. Th e amount and value of the stamps you will need on one envelope/parcel will depend on what the letter’s/parcel’s target is and how much the letter/parcel weighs.
When sending to Hungary, you will need to identify the name, street, house, (fl oor, door where applicable), town and the postal code of both the sender and the re-cipient.

You can buy tickets for the bus in advance at the main bus station and some shops, or on the bus. Buying a month ticket is also an option.
You can reach other towns, cities by bus, too. Th ere are direct buses to Győr and to Veszprém from Pápa. Detailed informa-tion about the schedules and other desti-nations can be found here:

Train
Travelling around Hungary and in Europe is quite simple by train. Th e Hungarian Rail-way Company (MÁV) is in charge of railway transporta-tion services.

When taking the train you have to buy your ticket in advance. You can do that at any train station or online at the above link. Ticket prices vary depending on the distance, the type of the train and the category of the traveller (adult/student/retired).
On most of the trains the names of the sta-tions are not announced, so pay attention on the signs of the station.

Fares are normal as there are no really big distances within the city. However, if you want to take a taxi to another town, make sure you agree about the price in advance,
because the trip might be expensive. At the end of the journey you will have to pay the amount the taximeter shows. Taxi drivers are usually tipped with 10% of the price. When you call a taxi you have to tell your address and name and a car will pick you up in a few minutes in front of your house. You can get a taxi near the main bus sta-tion or the train station, too. Keep in mind however, that it can be hard to catch taxis on weekdays or in extreme times in Pápa.
Cars
In Hungary people drive on the right side of the road.
You need a driving license and liability insurance to drive a car in Hungary. In Hungary full traffi c lights mean some-one’s possible priority against you, arrow shaped lights mean no priorities against you, but traffi c going that way only.
You are not allowed to cross a red light, even when turning right.

Bicycles
You do not need a license to ride a bicycle. People on bicycles must ride on the road, not on the sidewalk. Th ey must obey the same rules as car drivers. Only one person at a time may ride a bicycle. Where there is a bicycle road, you have to use it to ride a bicycle.
A small child may ride in a special seat be-hind the adult rider. You must have a light in front and a red refl ector on the back of your bicycle to ride at night, along with cat eyes.
You have to wear a refl ective vest at night and on the open road. Where there is a bike lane, you have to use it.
Pedestrians
When walking, you have to use sidewalks where possible. If there are no sidewalks, you should walk opposing the car traffi c. You are allowed to cross the road at des-ignated pedestrian crossovers, so called ‘zebras’. Where there are traffi c lights for pedestrians, you should act accordingly. Pedestrians always have priority towards turning vehicles, but be careful, always double-check whether it is safe to cross the road.

What to bring from home✓
Types of HousesPápa is a small town, therefore the types of homes available for rent are limited. You can usually fi nd family houses with yards and gardens, semi-attached houses and fl ats.
Cities near PápaIt is possible to fi nd a home near Pápa, in one of the neighbouring settlements. Larger cities nearby are Veszprém and Győr. Veszprém is about a 45-50-minute drive to the South, Győr is about an hour drive to the North.
House-hunting ProcedureWhen you arrive in Hungary, your fi rst trip is going to take you to the Communi-ty Liaison Offi ce. Someone there will take you to a house-hunting trip aft er asking about your preferences.
The CLO is in contact with local real estate agencies and it also runs its own password protected website list-ing housing offers. For more details and for access, please contact the CLO.

Tenancy AgreementWhen you found the home you would like to live in, you and the landlord will both have to sign a Tenancy Agreement. Th e Tenancy Agreement is prepared by NAMP and is schematic for everyone. It will be amended with individual condi-tions, when required. Th e Tenancy Agree-ment is both in English and in Hungarian. Read it carefully, because it will be a legal-ly binding document aft er signing.

Finding a Place to Live
Laws on Renting
In Hungary there are rights and duties of both the landlords and the tenants. Th e Tenancy Agreement can not overwrite the law. By law
Appliances in the home have to be functional when handing over the home to the Tenant.

Landlords have the right to check proper usage of the property once a year or several times a year defi ned in the Tenancy Agreement
Tenants are responsible for ensuring entry to the property upon those occasions
Tenants are responsible for using the property and its accessories properly. Damages caused by inadequate usage must be born by the Tenant.
Renovation works must be done by the landlord, however tenants have to tolerate the work related to the renovation in the home. Renovation works have to be announced by the landlord prior the actual works, in writing.
Tenants have to return the home and its accessories in a properly used condition upon the termination of the agreement.
UtilitiesIn Hungary in all homes electricity, water and gas are typically introduced.
You will have to pay for these services monthly (water bi-monthly), based on your consumption or pay an average amount each month and an adjustment fee by the end of the year. You also have to pay for waste management. In blocks with sever-al fl ats so called ‘Common Costs’ may also arise, which are usually the cleaning of the block, electricity and maintenance costs of the block.
You normally have to have a contract with each provider on your name. Pro-viders then will send you the bills, usually monthly, but sometimes bi-monthly, twice a year or annually.
You can pay your bills in any post offi ce or via the Internet through your bank’s on-line interface (if you have one).

Houses in Hungary are usually built of bricks and many of them are equipped with full-sealing plastic win-dows and doors. Due to the climate, you might experience humid periods throughout the year. When the electricity goes off in your home, fi rst you should check whether there is any electricity in the street (street lights, neighbours). If there is not, it is probably a service maintenance issue and will be solved soon. If you think it is only your home, try switching the switch back up in the Fuse Box. If that does not help either, try unplugging devices with large energy consumption (TV, Air Conditioner, Washing Machine, Dishwasher, etc.), and then switch the Fuse back up. If all these do not help, call or text your landlord and report the problem, or call the Community Liaison for contacting your landlord. The same procedure stands for leaking, noises, anything unusual. Try to fi nd the root of the problem and solve it, and if all fails, call your landlord to get the problem fi xed.
When you have a problem with the house you are living in let CLO (or your liaison) know as soon as possible, so that a solution can be worked out.

To open an account you will need your passport and your residency card. When your contract is signed, you have to wait about a week for your debit card to arrive via mail. Your envelope contains your card and a separate one contains the PIN (Per-sonal Identifi cation Number) belonging to the card. You will have to type your PIN
each time you would like to use your debit card. Credit cards also come with a PIN, but it is usually not required when paying. Both credit and debit cards have daily lim-its, which you can set with your bank in the bank offi ce.
Th e debit card belongs to the account you created and by using the card you are spending the actual money from your ac-count.
If you wish to have a credit card, you will have to open a credit account or attach a credit plan to your existing account.
Always make sure you understand the conditions of the credit and paying back!
Cards and Cash
You can use cash, a debit card or a credit card for direct payment. In bigger cities al-most all of the shops accept card payment, however in smaller towns, like Pápa, some shops and restaurants do not accept card

ATMs

Unbound Personal Loan One larger amount you have to pay back in an agreed period, with a certain rate.

Current Account LoanA loan that is connected to your current account. Practically you are able to spend more money than what you earn in a month. Th e defi cit is loaded by the next month’s salary.

Hungary has a tax-funded universal healthcare system. Health insurance is free for children, parents with a baby, students, pensioners, people with socially challenged background, registered hand-icapped people (including physical and mental disorders) and for emergency fi rst aid.
Central Facilities
Since health care system in Hungary is centrally fi nanced, most of the health care facilities are also centrally maintained. Th is means, once you have a HIC (Health Insurance Card) you are entitled to use the services of those facilities for free.
Local Medical Care
Th e town of Pápa and the surrounding area off er a wide range of modern medical and dental services for SAC members and their families. Experience over the past years has confi rmed that most basic med-ical, surgical and dental services are up to Western standards with regard to quality of care.
Nevertheless, there are signifi cant diff er-ences in language and culture, and build-ings and equipment are in some cases very diff erent from those in other SAC nations.
During their assignment to the SAC, most SAC members will receive all or part of their medical care from the local Hungar-ian health care system. Th e city of Pápa
provides primary care to its citizens via a number of community based general practitioners and pediatricians.
Two pediatricians and two general prac-titioners in Papa speak basic medical English and have been providing care for SAC families for over six years.
One of the well-known and trusted En-glish-speaking general practicioners is of-fi cially working in Pápa Air Base Medical Centre one time a week.

Papa has one city hospital, the Gróf Esterházy Hospital,which off ers basic medical and surgical services. Th e hospital’s emergency de-partment is open 24 hours. Th eir website is at

In EmergencyOne of the advantages of a small city like Papa is the availability of rapid emergency care. Th e universal number for obtaining emer-gency care (fi re, police, ambulance) is 112. Th e 112 dispatcher probably will not speak English.
When calling, the caller should clearly in-dicate a
MEDICAL EMERGENCY, and specify the LOCATION, preferably in Hungarian.
AmbulancePápa’s ambulance service is manned all days of the year, at all hours. An ambulance will respond to any part of the city in under 10 minutes, usually much less. A paramedic or physician rides on all am-bulances. Lifesaving care is provided on the scene, and each patient is rapidly transferred to the nearest appropriate medical center. Defi nitive care for emergency victims in Pápa is available within a one-hour radius by am-bulance. If the emergency is such that a few minutes delay is tolerable, the patient can call the medical liaison or the CLO emergency on-call number (out-of-offi ce-hours).Contact details found below.
Language AssistanceWhile quality of health care has not been a concern for members of the Pápa commu-nity, language oft en is, since most Hun-garian medical providers do not speak English.
For this reason, a bilingual medical liaison is available to the SAC community Monday-Friday 08:00-17:00free of charge.

real-time translation during appointments, and
obtaining/translating medical reports.
Medical insurance
Health insurance for HAW members is diff erent depending on the member’s nation. Hungarian employees are insured by the National Health Insurance Fund, by automatically having the insurance fees deducted from their salaries every month. As a proof of existing health insurance, every patient is provided with a Health Insurance Card (HIC, or TAJ card) and a 9 digit Health Insurance Identifi cation Number. Th is card needs to be presented at every appointment (hospitals, family doctors, etc.).
US & Dutch HAW
US members and their families as well as HAW members from the Netherlands have private health insurance. US citizens should check the status of their Tricare coverage before coming to Hungary.
Immediately upon arrival, US members should contact the HAW medical clinic to enroll in TriCare Prime Remote or TriCare Standard.
Dutch HAW members should contact the Dutch NSE for information about their
health care coverage and a one-page form required for medical insurance billing.
Other SAC nations
Th e other ten SAC nations all have uni-versal health coverage for their citizens provided by their national government. Members from these nations will be enrolled under the Hungarian health care program.
For enrollment the active duty mem-ber should request Form E-106 (some countries now use the Form S1) from the home nation. Th e national support element (NSE) or the Senior National Representative (SNR) can provide guid-ance and assistance about how to request this form.
NSPA employees
Registering with Allianz is done by NSPA HR. As NATO employees, all employees of NSPA (except US reimbursable) must have a mandatory, private health insur-ance with Allianz. Its fee is automatically deducted from the salary. Th is covers
health life accident
insurance. It covers the
employeehis/her wife/husband or same sex regis-
tered partner children.
Children under the age of 16 fall under the insurance plan of either parent, chil-dren above 16 receive their own insurance plan.When using medical service, NSPA fami-lies do not need to hold a valid HIC (TAJ) Card. Th e service should be paid for on site. Th e receipt and the prescription
should be saved and be sent back to Alli-anz for reimbursement. Further details to be found in the Allianz Welcome Package, to be received when starting the insurance plan.
HIC (TAJ) card procedure
Once the E106 (or S1) is received, the member should make an appointment with the CLO / Medical Liaison to fi ll out the needed paperwork. Th e member will need to provide a valid passport or national identifi cation card for himself/herself and for each family member. Once the paper-work is processed by the Hungarian gov-ernment (usually about 3 weeks) the active duty member and each family member will receive a Hungarian Health Insurance Card. Th ese cards are sent to the CLO / Medical Liaison, who then forwards them to the individual families. With this card, the card-holder can access the Hungarian public health care system exactly as any Hungarian citizen. When fi nishing duty in Pápa all cards have to be handed back to the CLO during out-processing.
European Health Insurance Card
European families arriving to the HAW are also advised to obtain an EU medical insurance card before coming to Hungary. Th is will help in getting medical care until the Hungarian card is received.
Norway also off ers such cards, even though it is not part of the EU.
Dental care
Getting dental care in Hungary, like most places, is a bit diff erent than medical care. While most medical care is free, the rules for dental care are more complicated - some care is free and some is not. In gen-eral, only the fi rst emergency treatment is for free.
Many of the dentists off er the full spec-trum of sophisticated dental implant and prosthetic services, in addition to gener-al dentistry services. Orthodontists are available in both Győr and in the city of Veszprém, 50 kilometers to the south, but generally do not speak English, with some exceptions.
Pharmacy Pharmacies in Hungary are marked with a green cross or the international symbol of a snake around a calyx.
Th e city of Pápa has a large number of pri-vate pharmacies. Most medications avail-able in the United States are also available in Hungary, though under diff erent names and by diff erent manufacturers.
Narcotic pain medications and amphetamine-like stimulants (such as those used for ADHD) are very dif-fi cult to acquire in Hungary.
Patients should be prepared for the reality that in Hungary, treatment of pain and hyperactivity disorders is much more regulated than in some other countries.
Over-the-counter medications such as Ibuprofen, Tylenol, Robitussin, etc. are not available in stores like they are in some other countries. Th is kind of medi-cation is for sale in pharmacies.

Pregnancy
Locations and personnel
Medical care during pregnancy (prenatal care) is available in both Pápa and Győr. In Pápa, women needing obstetric and gynecological care are usually seen by the Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Gróf Esterházy Hospital.
For the past few years the Chief of Obstetric and Gynecological has provided
SAC women with timely care and an excellent bed-side manner. He does speak English, German and Polish.
In Győr, several OBGYN physicians at the Petz Aladár Medical Center speak En-glish. Patients should be aware, however, that ancillary staff , including nurses, gen-erally do not speak English.
Prenatal Visits
In Hungary, prenatal visits are done ap-proximately every month and more fre-quently aft er about week 34. Each clinic visit includes
an ultrasound and
sometimes includes additional exams and laboratory studies.
Each woman may manage her pregnan-cy according to the customs of her own country and her own preferences. Th e local obstetricians, however, will recom-mend exams and tests according to Hun-garian practice guidelines.
For specifi c inquiries regarding medical and dental care at Pápa, incoming mem-bers and their family members are invited to contact the HAW fl ight surgeon.
Védőnők
In the Hungarian system, community based nurses (védőnő, or védőnők plural)
work together with the local doctors, pe-diatricians and obstetricians, providing care for pregnant women and assisting families aft er the child is born. Th ese nurses are located throughout the city and help pregnant women with prenatal issues, as well as helping with care of the newborn and young children.
Th ere is one Védőnő in Pápa who speaks English well, and she has agreed to pro-vide this service to members of the SAC and their families.
Nurse visits Before delivery, the woman is expected to visit the nurse before each doctor’s ap-pointment, and to bring a urine sample on each occasion. At each visit, the nurse checks the expectant mother’s
weight,
blood pressure and
urine (for white cells and sugar).
Aft er delivery, the nurses assist with all health care matters including
breast feeding,
diet,
safety and
immunizations.
Free urine cups are available at the HAW clinic.
As the time for delivery approaches, each woman needs to decide whether she wants the védőnő to visit her at home, either reg-ularly or as needed or not at all.
Th ere is no pressure or requirement – it is entirely a personal choice – but it should be communicated to the védőnő.
Immunizations
Childhood immunizations in Hungary are largely the same as in most European countries and the US, though there may be slight diff erences.
Mandatory vaccinations
Certain immunizations are required, and these are provided free of charge to all families who reside in Hungary for 3 months or longer.
Incoming families can begin to receive these immediately upon arrival since all SAC families will eventually stay for lon-ger than 3 months.
Th e pediatrician will provide detailed in-formation regarding these vaccinations and the vaccination schedule.
Pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum care can be complicated and stress-ful, especially in a foreign country. Couples expecting a baby are en-couraged to speak directly to the HAW fl ight surgeon to obtain de-tailed, personalized information re-garding the full-spectrum of materni-ty care options at this location.
Be sure to have an up-to-date vacci-nation book for your child, including dates, names of vaccination and if possible, the active agent of the vac-cination. There might be differences between names of vaccinations with same active agent in different countries.
Optional vaccinations
Certain other vaccines are available but are not mandatory. Th ese may be purchased by the family by asking the pediatrician for a prescription and buying the vaccine at a local pharmacy. Aft er the vaccine is purchased, it can be taken to the pediatrician for administra-tion.
Families are advised to consult with the family pediatrician for details.

Hungarian School System
Children in the Hungarian system can enter the public school system at the age of 2. From 2-3 they can go to nurseries and from 3-6 or 7 they can attend kindergartens, however nei-ther of those is compulsory, except a year in kindergarten preceding the fi rst school year.
It is compulsory for the children to start school from the age of 6 or 7 depending on their maturity, and they have to stay schooled until they are 16. Generally they attend primary school for eight years (un-til the age of 14) and then enter secondary school that lasts for four years. It is not uncommon to come across secondary schools that host 6 or 8 grades, where, consequently children start before they reach 14.
In Hungary two semesters make a school year. Th e fi rst semester lasts from September
to January, the second from February to June.Secondary school usually fi nishes with a ‘School Leaving Exam’ (Érettségi), which serves as an entry exam to univer-sities.
Higher education takes place according to the
‘Bologna System’ in Hungary, that is common in most of the countries of the European Union.
According to this, a Bachelor degree can be obtained in 3-4 years, a Masters degree in 1-2 years and a Ph.D. in 3 years.
NurseriesUnlike kindergartens, day nurseries do not belong to the educational system in Hungary, they are not under the supervi-sion of the Ministry of Education, rath-er they are supervised by the Ministry
Education
of Healthcare. Public nurseries are free to attend, however you need to apply for en-trance. Since nurseries are not compulso-ry, not all applications are accepted.
Nurseries take care of children usually be-tween 08.00 and 16.00 on weekdays (Mon-
day-Friday), following the normal work-ing hours pattern of the parents. Children are given meals four times a day, breakfast and lunch, a snack between them, and one before leaving. Proper amount of fl uids is provided (mostly tap water).
Children are normally not required to be toilet trained when entering the nursery. Teachers are trained to change diapers and most of the nurseries train children for toilets.
Th e application procedure takes place in May, but upon special circumstances (like moving during the summer or the school year) you can enter your children at other times, too. Be aware, however, that there is a limited number of places, therefore they get fi lled up fast.
Each nursery might have its diff erent rules and regulations, so please discuss them with the director upon application.
Kindergartens
Kindergartens are attended from the age of 3. Kindergartens in Hungary serve the aim of preparing, teaching the children how to communicate with each other and how to behave in a social environment.
Children in kindergarten are separated into three (or sometimes four) age groups. ‘Little Group’ (Kis csoport) is for 3-4-year-olds, ‘Middle Group’ (Középső csoport) is for 4-5-year-olds and ‘Big Group’ (Nagy csoport) is for 5-7-year-olds.
Opening hours are usually from 07.00 to 17.00.
Teachers of the kindergarten supervise safety and order in the groups, while play-ing common games with the children, through which motivating them to enrich their vocabulary, get to know the basics of mathematics, build their interest towards computers and science, just as towards music and arts. Another important bene-fi t of the kindergartens is the opportunity for the children to get to know social be-havior.
Application to the kindergarten takes place every May. Upon special circum-stances (like moving during the summer or the school year) you can enter your children at other times, too. Be aware, however, that there is a limited number of places, therefore they get fi lled up fast.
Primary Schools
In Hungary having your children schooled is compulsory from the age of 6-7 to 18. Most of the children in Hungary go to
public primary schools, which is free of charge. Th ere are some private schools, especially in Budapest, where tuition fees apply.
Primary schools usually have 8 grades of age groups, of which 1-4 are the lower grades and 5-8 are the higher grades.
Classes typically have a form master, who is ideally permanent throughout all the 8 years of the school, or throughout the lower or the higher grades. Classmates are ideally permanent throughout all the 8 years.
In lower grades (6-10 years old) there are 3-4 teachers teaching all the subjects, which are

Th e purpose of Hungarian primary school education is to develop literacy and math-ematical thinking in the children, while educating them on the basics of sciences, social studies and forms of art.
Corporal punishment is not allowed in Hungary.
Secondary Schools
Th ere are several kinds of secondary schools operating in Hungary. Most of them provide 4-year long education (from 14 to 18), but there are some 4, 5, 6 and 8 grade high schools too, where students start their secondary school education be-fore turning 14.
As for the type of education there are three kinds of secondary schools:
Grammar Schools Provide academic education in
preparation of further academic studies.
Trade High Schools
Provide a combination of academ-ic education and practical training, providing a trade for the students as well as a School Leaving Certifi ca-tion.
Trade SchoolsProvide mainly practical training in order to train skilled professionals in certain trades.
Th ere are special programs in some of the secondary schools, such as an art or a dra-ma program or special language training. Bilingual secondary schools teach certain subjects in a foreign language, and require students to take a certain percentage of the School Leaving Exam in the given foreign language. Th ese schools provide an advanced level language certifi cation upon graduation.
International Schools in Pápa
Quality Schools International (QSI) opened a primary school for 5-14 years old children in 2012. A QSI Secondary School is going to be available from September 2014.Th e language of tuition in QSI is English, the curriculum mainly refl ects the US one. Dormitories
Secondary schools focus on advanced ac-ademic education or specialized practical knowledge, therefore children from out-side the school’s geographical range might want to attend, too. To solve the problem of travelling too much, the system of dor-mitories exist with a long lasting tradition in Hungary. Children, whose families live far from the school, live in dormitories where they are provided meals, supervi-sion and space and time to study. Students travel home every weekend, they spend the time of Monday to Friday in the dor-mitory.
Further Education
Aft er secondary school graduation you can attend a Higher Level Trade Program or you can enter a University or College. Higher Level Trade Programs provide you with a trade certifi cation, while Universi-ties and Colleges provide degrees (diplo-mas).
Th ere are several colleges and universities in Hungary you can choose from. Th ere is a limited number of tuition-free plac-es in almost all disciplines. Hungary’s further education system follows the EU Bologna-pattern. Aft er secondary school graduation you can apply for a Bachelor’s Program, which lasts for 3-4 years. Once earned the Bachelor’s Degree (B.A., B.Sc.), you can go on to a Master’s Program (M.A., M.Sc.) (1-2 years). Th e prerequisite of starting a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program is a Masters Diploma.

Costs and fi nancial helpPublic nurseries, kindergartens, primary and sec-ondary schools are free for children to attend, with some nominal operational fees and the cost of equipment the child needs during the school year.
QSI International School Pápa has a tuition fee, however SAC-related children can apply for full or part scholarships, depending on the fi nancial situ-ation of the parents or on the tuition fee payment policy of the sending nation. Driving
In Hungary, people drive on the right side of the road. You have to have your driving license, car documents and liability insurance to drive in Hungary. You must respect the rights of cyclists and pedestrians. In Euro-pean cars the unit of speedometers is km/h.
Driving License
If you are coming from the European Union, your EU Diving License is accept-ed by the authorities in Hungary. If you are coming from outside the EU or you have a diff erent format from the EU doc-ument, you should get an international driving permit in your home country that is a transcription of your original driving license.
U.S. driver’s licenses will be accepted in Hungary for one year aft er arrival in Hun-gary, provided that a certifi ed Hungarian translation is attached to the document. U.S. citizens who are in possession of an international driver’s license do not need to have their state driver’s license trans-lated, but must have both the state and the international licenses on hand when driving.
Military, including US, can use their national/military issued driving li-cense as long as wished.
Aft er one year of residence in Hungary, U.S. citizens must obtain a Hungarian driver’s license.

Car DocumentsWhen driving, the documents of the car you are driving have to be with you. These are the Car Registration Document containing details about the car (make, model, registration number, owner, etc.) and the latest receipt of the Liability Insurance.

Liability Insurance
It is compulsory to have liability insurance on every motor-vehicle. You have to have it to en-sure that the damage in the other party’s vehicle is fi nancially covered if you cause an accident. Th ere are plenty of companies you can contract with and you can choose the plan best fi tting you on the Internet. Th e price of the insurance
depends on the car, the age and gender of the driver and on driving experience. When regis-tering a car with Hungarian plates, Hungarian liability insurance contract has to be made.
Not having a valid liability insurance for the car results in a signifi cant fi ne. You should never ignore communica-tion to you in Hungarian, but contact your Hungarian insurance agent or translator for explanation.
Be aware that it is you who is responsi-ble for keeping the regularcar inspec-tion valid and that there is no warning system for expiring car inspections.
CASCOLiability insurance insures the damage in the other party’s vehicle in case of an accident, but does not cover your damage. To have your car insured, you will have to have a CASCO contract signed with an insurance company. Th e fee of the CASCO also depends on the conditions of the car and the driver. You can contract for CASCO with any insurance com-pany, however keep in mind, the more types of insurances (liability, CASCO, house, life, trav-el, etc.) you have with one single company, the better prices you will get for the package.

Accidents
In Hungary you do not need to call the po-lice for every accident. When parties agree on the question of liability and no person-al harm is done, it is enough to fi ll an Ac-cident Report Form and take it/send it to the insurance company of the liable party.
When personal harm is done, call 104 for the Ambulance and 107 for the Police.
When no personal harm is done, but par-ties can not agree on the question of liabil-ity, or the damage worths more than HUF 100.000, call 107 for the Police.
Traffi c Laws
Speeding
In inhabited areas the speed limit is 50 km/h. Th e start and the end of inhabited areas are marked with a traffi c sign. Th e speed limit on country roads is 90 km/h, on express highways 110 km/h, and on motorways 130 km/h.
Th ese are general rules, but when limiting signs are present, you have to act accordingly.
Headlights have to be on when outside of in-habited area all day.
You are encouraged to call for CLO as-sistance in case of any accident, when you have trouble communicating.
Seat belts
In Hungary all drivers and passengers have to wear the seatbelt. You will be fi ned upon traffi c check when you or any of your passengers do not wear the seatbelt.
Child seats
Child seats are allowed to be installed in the front seat only facing rear and with no airbag or the airbag turned off .
Under the height of 150 cm children are not allowed sit in the front seat. Conse-quently, those children are not allowed to be carried in a two-seat only type car.
Children under the height of 135 cm are only allowed to be transported in the backseat in a child safety seat.
Children between the height of 135 and 150 cm are allowed to be transported in the back seat with the seatbelt adjusted to their heights (with a booster seat or an ad-justable seat belt).
Drinking and driving
Th ere is Zero Tolerance towards alcohol when driving a motor-vehicle in Hunga-ry. You are going to be arrested when your blood-alcohol level is above 0.05 percent with your license being taken away, and going to be fi ned when it is between 0.00 and 0.05 percent.
Traffi c tickets
When you break traffi c laws, you will have to pay a fi ne if the police catch you. Obvi-ous mistakes can be crossing the red light, using a handheld device, like a phone or speeding. When you are stopped by the police, the offi cer will ask for your docu-ments (license, insurance receipt, car reg-
istration documents). You are allowed to get out of the car.
When fi ned you will be given a yellow postal cheque, that you will have to pay in any post offi ce or on the internet.Never pay the police offi cer on spot!
Parking
You can park wherever a sign is not for-bidding parking. In parks or nation-al parks parking is usually not allowed on greeneries. In towns and cities there are fee paying parking places, which are marked with a sign.
Parking spots are designated places to park, however parking zones mark a territory where referred parking rules apply.
Around fee paying parking places you can fi nd parking meters which usually work with coins, or in some cases you can initi-ate and stop your paring period by send-ing a text (SMS) from your mobile phone.Details on SMS parking are to be found on the parking meters.
Disabled parking
Some parking places have a special sign.
Th ese parking places are reserved for peo-ple with a physical disability. You must not park there, unless you have a special permit. Talk to your doctor if you need a disabled parking permit.
Motorways
Th ere is a fast growing motorway network in Hungary (1,480 km in total).
Winter Driving
During the winter heavy snowing and frost might occur. It is advisory to change your tyres around November to Winter Tyres in a tyres workshop.
During winter you might want to have snow chains in your car in case you are stuck in the snow. It is not allowed to drive with studded tyres in Hungary.
Toll Roads
As of 1 July 2013, the electronic, dis-tance-based toll system (DTS) has been introduced on a total of 6,500 km desig-nated road sections of the Hungarian pub-lic road network (motorways, highways, main routes).
Th e rate of distance-based toll payment depends on the used road type, the cat-egory of the motor vehicle, as well as its environmental classifi cation. Th e Hungarian Government has desig-nated the National Toll Payment Services Private Company Limited By Shares to conduct all of the tasks related to the col-lection of tolls and all of the universal toll services, and the Company will play a sig-nifi cant role in the control support tasks as well.

Registering your car in Hungary
As member of the Force, every HAW and NSE member is entitled to register one car and one motorbike for a family member who holds a proper driving licence. Th is applies only for those vehicles which are owned by the staff member when importing them to Hungary. Th is is con-sidered as a temporary import, therefore there is a restriction on the sale of the vehicle set by Customs; a temporarily im-ported vehicle can only be sold with Hun-garian registration if the registration tax is paid to Customs.
Before starting the registration pro-cess, it is highly recommended to con-sult with the CLO.

Imports from the EU
Vehicles without proper EU standard vehicle title document (Part I-II) but imported from the EU are subject to in-spection of origin (carried out in Pápa) to obtain a certifi ed clearence. It costs HUF 18000-21000 depending on the vehicle.
Imports from a third country
Vehicles without proper EU standard ve-hicle title document (Part I-II) and im-ported from outside the EU are subject to an origin certifi cation process.
An offi cial translation of the title doc-ument has to be obtained (fi x price per character), based on this translation Hun-garian authorities contact authorities from the current vehicle registration country to obtain a certifi ed clearence.
Th is costs 10900 HUF and might take 2 months, translation fee not included.

Jobs in Hungary are generally concentrat-ed in big cities. Smaller towns and rural areas have signifi cantly less job opportu-nities, than cities do. Th e rate of unem-ployment in Hungary is about 11%.
Work Permit (EU/Non-EU)
Citizens of the European Union are not required to hold a work permit or work visa in order to start working in Hungary. If you are from outside the EU, contact the Hungarian Embassy in your home coun-try for the rules applying to you.

try. You can get registered as a job-seeker there, in order to be eligible when there is a job available tailored to your expertise. Bear in mind however, that for most of the jobs advertised fl uent Hungarian is required, especially if you are looking out-side Budapest or county capitals.
In order to be able to have any per-sonal business with the Workforce Offi ce (getting registered, obtaining certifi cates, etc.) you will have to ap-ply for a Personal Tax Number (PTN) and a Tax Card at the Tax Offi ce.
Working
Most of the jobs advertised in Hungary are full-time jobs. Employees generally work 40 hours a week, usually from 08.00 to 16.00/17.00, or from 09.00 to 17.00/18.00 in Budapest.
Getting paid
If you get employed, you will be regis-tered at the National Tax Authority (NAV) and will be given a Personal Tax Number along with a Tax Card.

In Hungary employees do not pay their own taxes, but the employer deducts it from the salary (which is paid once a month) and transfers it to the NAV.
Th e average gross salary in Hungary is around HUF 200.000 (EUR 670) a month.
Taxation
Salaries are heavily taxed in Hungary. Th e total percentage of tax on a salary is about 60%, out of which about 35% is paid by the employee. When you are employed the following kinds of taxes are deducted from your gross salary:

Employer benefi t tax (your employer pays it) (28.5%)
When you are employed by an employer you normally do not have to deal with paying your own taxes, they are deducted from your salary each month. Once a year you have to fi ll a Tax Report and hand it in to the Taxation Authority (NAV). Th e deadline is usually 1st May. Failing to do so may result in fi nes.
Starting your own business
Th ere are diff erent types of business asso-ciations available in Hungary. Th e proce-dure of creating a company depends on which one you choose, which one fi ts your conditions the best.
General partnership (Kkt.)
A business association whose members jointly undertake the obligation to engage in business operations with unlimited and joint and several liability. Kkt-s do not have a legal personality, which, however, does not mean that they cannot be subject to rights and obligations or that they are transparent in terms of taxation. Th e lack of legal personality only refers to the Kkt.’s personal collective (rather than capital collective) nature.
Limited Partnership (Bt.)
At least one member (general partner) has unlimited liability for the obligations of the business association, while the liabil-ity of other, at least one member (limited partner), is limited to the amount of its contribution.
Limited Liability Companies (Kft.)
Are business associations founded with an initial capital (subscribed capital) consist-ing of capital contributions of a pre-deter-mined amount, in the case of which the liability of members to the company ex-tends only to the provision of their cap-ital contributions, and to other possible contributions as set forth in the articles of association. With the exceptions set out in the Companies Act, members are not lia-ble for the liabilities of the company.
Companies limited by shares (Rt.)
Are business associations founded with a share capital (subscribed capital) consist-ing of shares of a pre-determined number and face value, in the case of which the obligation of members (shareholders) to the limited company extends to the pro-vision of the face value or the issue price of shares. With the exceptions defi ned in the Companies Act, shareholders shall not bear liability for the obligations of a limited company. Limited companies may be established privately or be open to the public and, consequently, they may oper-ate in the form of a public (Nyrt.) or pri-vate (Zrt.) limited company.
A grouping
Is a co-operative society vested with legal personality, founded by members in order to facilitate the success of their business activities and to co-ordinate such busi-ness activities, as well as to represent their professional interests. Th e purpose of a grouping is not to make a profi t for itself; its members shall bear unlimited, joint and several liability for debts in excess of the grouping’s assets.Whichever form you prefer, always pay attention on taxation amounts and dead-lines. Most of the companies hire an ac-countant or contract with an accounting company, in order to have their books managed.

Hungary is not a very religious country. About 25% of the population does not and has never believed, while about 40% does or always have believed in God. Th e majority of religious Hungarians are Roman Catholic (about 40%), about 12% belongs to the Reformed Church, 2% is Lutheran and about 0.1% is Jewish, and the same rate is Orthodox Christian. Pápa hosts an active sports life, with clubs and associations for students and adults as well. Th ere are a lot of things to do wheth-er you are on your own, or you would like to join a team.

If you like running or swimming by your own schedule, the forests around Pápa and the Park of the Castle (Várkert) downtown will be excellent places for your routine run, and so will be Pápa Swimming Pool and Spa (Várkertfürdő) if you are rather in favour of swimming.
Individual Bicycling
Pápa area is preferred by many cyclists due to the nearby slopes of the Bakony, however be careful when riding a bike outside of Pápa, cyclist lanes are not very common. Parks
Pápa has a lot of green areas with parks and playgrounds. Th e largest and most popular park is the Castle Park (Várkert), behind the Esterházy Castle. It is a great place for running, walking, just sitting down and chatting and it also has a nice playground for children. When you are there, check out some of the big-gest plane trees of Hungary.
Another nice park, Erzsébetliget (Eliza-beth’s Grove) is just across the street from the Várkert, by the theatre.
Th ere are some smaller parks in Pápa, which you can discover while walking or driving around.
Cultural Facilities in PápaMain Square
Pápa has a lovely main square with the big Catholic church in the middle of it. Many of the town events are held on the Main Square, just as the annual Christmas Fair, the Game Festival in the Summer, and the Wine Festival and Goose Festival during the Fall.
Esterházy Castle (Jókai Mór Library)
Part of the centuries old castle is nicely renovated and refurbished, and can be visited with a tour guide. Th e castle also hosts temporary exhibitions and cultural events.
Blue-Dye Museum
Traditional textile processing of the area is the so called blue dyeing. A museum downtown is dedicated to showcase the phases and technique of this ancient art.
Jókai Mór Centre for Culture and Leisure (JMSZK)
Th e JMSZK serves as the local theater. Th ere are theater plays, presentations, conferences and family events hosted by the institution.

It is common to have pets in Hungary. Some people keep their pets in the house, some outside.
Laws on pets
Th ere are diff erent laws on pets in Hunga-ry, some are central, some are made by the local municipality, and regulations may be made by blocks of houses, too.
By law, dogs older than 4 month have to have unique identifi cation. Th is is usually a microchip with the data of the pet (name, owners, address), injected under the skin. Th e cost of the procedure and the chip together is usually around HUF 3000.
Pay attention on signs in parks and in public areas whether you are allowed to enter with a pet, or whether there are any restrictions regarding your pet (i.e. a leash, a muzzle, or a carriage box). Pets, other than guide-dogs or work-dogs, are usually not allowed in buildings. If you would like to take your pet into one, ask whether it is ok, before entering. Any damage, your pet causes in a public area is your responsibility.
Cruelty towards animals is an indictable off ence by law in Hungary. By law, the keeper of an animal is obliged to take care of the animal, considering its kind, species and its physiological needs.
When walking, you are obliged to clean the waste aft er your pet at all times. Not doing so may result in being fi ned.
On public transport vehicles pets are usu-ally required to have a leash and a muzzle on, or to be locked in a carriage box. In some cases you might have to buy an extra ticket for your pet.
Animal Shelters
Animal shelters host stray animals, pro-vide them with food and shelter. Th ese facilities are usually manned on a volun-teer basis and are fi nanced by donations through foundations.People can adopt abandoned pets from these shelters, and donations as per mon-ey, food, volunteer work or anything else needed are always welcome.
Please, do not forget to have all the necessary paperwork done before coming to Hungary. Your pet will most probably need a Pet Passport and all the required immunization. For details please ask your local vet.

Hungary is using the continental legal system, the ‘civil law’, used in most of Eu-rope. It is based on Roman Law, meaning the predomination of written law to reg-ulations made by the judges, unlike the practice of the Anglo-Saxon legal system, which is based on the acknowledgement of common law. In practice this means, ju-dicial decisions are not based on previous precedents, but on previously laid down laws.
In Hungary legislation and jurisdiction are separated, the government can not have any infl uence on courts and vice ver-sa.
Elections
Th e government is elected by Hungarians every four years. Residents vote for a local representative and for a party separately. When the consistence of the parliament is fi nal, the President of Hungary requests the party or coalition with the most mem-bers in the Parliament to form the govern-ment.
Legislation, execution
Th e Parliament practices the legislative power, while the executive power is held by the government, with the Prime Minis-ter being the leader. Th e President has the right to send bills back to the parliament for re-debate and has the duty of appoint-ing the prime minister, among other for-mal duties.
Hungary joined the European Union in 2004, therefore applying the European Union Law, in other terms the European Community Law.
Government
In Hungary there is a central government and counties, towns and some settlements have their own municipalities. Th e head of the municipality is the mayor. Municipal-ities are in charge of local regulations and businesses.
Jurisdiction
Courts in Hungary have diff erent lev-els according to locality. Th e lowest lev-el, where cases are heard is represented by the Town Court, the next one is the County Court and the highest one is the Supreme Court. Appeals against the Su-preme Court’s decisions can be made to the European Court of Justice.

Status of Internationals in Hungary
SAC members have diff erent statuses in Hungary. HAW members’ status is de-scribed and regulated by the NATO SoFA Agreement. Th e conditions of US Forces’ NATO SoFA status is amended with the bilateral Omnibus Agreement between Hungary and the US. Depen-dents also fall under the provisions the NATO SoFA agreement, but not the Om-nibus agreement. Th e status of NATO ci-vilian employees in Hungary is regulated by the NATO Ottawa Agreement.Hungary has certain regulations regarding NATO employees working in Hungary, described in the NATO-Host nation Agreement, and specifi c regulations on foreign mili-tary working in Hungary, detailed in the Visiting Forces Act.
Internationals not falling under the NATO SoFA and the Omnibus Agreements may have immigrant or refugee statuses in Hungary.
Human Rights
Individuals’ basic freedom and human rights are ensured by law in Hungary, being a modern democracy. In case you feel your human rights were violated, you can report the fact to the Hungarian Ombudsman.
Information ProtectionPersonal information is protected by law in Hungary. Only governmental institu-tions are allowed to handle your personal data without your consent, in every other case, you have to give your consent to han-dling your data. By default your personal data can not be shared with a third party, except when requested by governmental institutions.
Citizenship
You can become a Hungarian citizen by birth, by patriation or by repatriation and by certain family circumstances.
Deportation
Foreigners might get deported from Hungary in case of committing certain serious crimes, or in case of unclear status of stay. Foreign-ers falling under the NATO SoFA and the Omnibus Agreements can not get deported, however in case of committing crime the host or the sending nation is authorized to carry out proceedings, based on multilateral agree-ments and the violator will be sent back to their sending nation.

Selective waste c o l l e c t i o n and recycling is practiced in Hungary, however not as common as in some other European countries, like Austria, Germany or the Scandinavian countries.

Composting
Green, organic household waste (mowed lawn, skin of fruits, etc.) can be composted in a designated area in your yard. You will have to build or buy a compost rack, into which you can collect all organic waste, unselected. Th e lower layers gradually be-come the compost itself, a fertile material, which you can later use for fertilizing your plants and your soil in general.
Green Energy
Green energy, or renewing energy is a term used for energy sources that do not strain the environment. Th ese are wind, water, sun, geothermic and biomass sources.
In Hungary the most common usage of green energy is carried out by the public sector in the form of wind and solar en-ergy. Households usually stick with solar panels as an addition to the home’s ex-isting energy coverage. Appliances with an A, A+, A++, A+++ rating consume the least energy, while the ones with a G consume the most.

You don’t need to change your life upside down to do something for the environ-ment. Th e following tips help keep the planet clean and sustainable little by little.
When possible, reuse your shopping bags. Take your own bag for shop-ping every time, this way less plastic will be needed to deal with as waste.
When not in a room, turn off the lights and switch off electric devic-es.
Use energy-friendly light bulbs.
When not needed, close the tap. Wa-ter doesn’t need to run while you are brushing your teeth.
Manage your heating. If no one is at home during the day, turn the heat-ing off or limit it to minimal.
Try selecting your waste and take it to one of the islands in your neigh-borhood.
