November 6, 2019 TO: Mr. Wade Redeker, Executive Director- Secondary Education Mr. Lyndel Landgren, Director of Communication Relations FROM: Mr. Dathan Fischer, EHS Principal Mr. Terry Taylor, EHS School Counseling Department RE: EHS Enrollment Bulletin for 2020-2021 The Emporia High School department chairs have submitted their requests for changes and additions to the enrollment bulletin for 2020-2021. The counseling department, with the assistance from our administrative staff, have discussed their requests and submitted these changes for approval. Lyndel Landgren, with the assistance of Matt Fowler and Dana Cole, will be incorporating our changes by editing/updating the EHS website and online course catalog for 2020-2021. Matt Fowler has created a searchable course catalog feature located under the EHS page Quick Links: “Course Catalog.” A summary of changes is included with this cover memo for review. They include: Update wording within course descriptions - to enable courses to align more closely with current state course descriptions. Update grade levels requirements - to balance the numbers of electives available at all grade levels as well as ensure that course sequencing allows for student success. Career and Technical Education (CTE) name changes - to align with the evolving changes of the CTE pathways. Update course codes - to align with current state codes Additions of new courses - to fulfill CTE pathway requirements and increase elective opportunities available to our students. Removal of courses - to update current department offerings, historically low student enrollment, staffing restrictions, and changes to CTE pathways. Our current timeline suggests the enrollment bulletin will be presented to the Board of Education at the November 13th meeting. Adjustments will be made based on the feedback we receive from this meeting. Starting in early January, EHS School Counselors will begin scheduling individual 2020-2021 enrollment conferences with all juniors. After approval, the final enrollment course catalog will be updated and posted on our website for students and parents to search/access.
